    5 Taco Plate

This place is clearly a Dallas favorite. It is a kick ass little taco restaurant located in downtown Dallas.. super friendly staff addictive flavor filled tacos and good alcoholic beverages with an outdoor area to eat and chill. Makes this place a great spot to visit after a late night of drinking or even for an afternoon lunch worth a stop considering driving all the way to Dallas again just to get me some tacos here!

Came here to have dinner before a show at the Winspear Opera house. We did not want to do a fancy dinner. We opted for tacos. Ordered the 5 taco plate plus an additional taco. Plate came with rice & beans and Jalapeños. Also ordered Jamaica drink. Total bill came out to $22. Not bad for a downtown location. The Al Pastor was a bit dry. The chicharon was good. The lengua was also good. The airconditioner was so loud, it's annoying.

Authentic taco spot in downtown Dallas! Walking in, I knew the place would be awesome when I saw the trompos! Tried all three (pastor, pollo, y asada) and they were all great. Quick service with a full bar. Happy hour at this spot is a must! Pro Tip: if you order the tacos definitely mix and match the meats!

The food was a solid 8/10 but the service was just.. not it. Called ahead to ask for suggestions for parking and the girl who answered didn't even know. we asked for recommendations on what to order (first timers); when we arrived and the same girl took our order and again didn't have much to say. Maybe it was just an off day.. We ordered the barbacoa twisted fries with no sour cream. Very flavorful and a lot of food for the price. Was impressed. Will try again for sure, food is worth it.

Great tacos, and the frozen margarita was on point. Also, don't miss the guacamole. The atmosphere is so-so, amazing little bit of fast food vibes, but who cares. Go for the food.

We have ordered here almost every weekend for weeks. Never disappointed. The tacos are so god. Plenty of flavor and just so filling. Love the double tortilla. The limes and cilantro, onions are always fresh. The horchata always hits so damn good.

I loved getting to try out the Tex Mex at this spot! I started out with the guac and chips which came with a very generous portion of chips. They included some salsa along with their guac. I was getting full before the rest of the meal! I had their 5 taco plate and tried a variety of the tacos they had on their menu. I loved getting to sample their different proteins and options here. The only thing I'd change is that the tacos were single tortilla instead of double like some street taco places, which made it easy for some of the filling to slide off.

my friends and i decided to eat here due to our texmex cravings. this place resembled that of a fast food restaurant and was very lively inside. there was a solid selection of items you could order from. my partner and i shared an al pastor fries, chicken salad, and birria tacos. the chicken salad was amazing!! there was soooo much chicken and it was very juicy. they had all the ingredients that i love in a salad (cucumbers, tomatoes, spring mix, lettuce). the birria tacos were alright. the sauce was pretty yummy. the fries were a bit underwhelming for me. i felt like a lot of the al pastor pieces were all fat, no meat. the cheese was at the bottom of the tray (for some odd reason). the sauce for the fries was yummy though. overall, my texmex cravings were satisfied. i would come back just for the chicken salad.

Great food, nice ambience, and friendly staff. The location is also so great. There is street parking. Note it's located in downtown Dallas so you may have to find a garage during the day.

Great tacos and quesadillas at a great price. I was looking for some late night, Mexican food, and was pleasantly surprised by the twisted trompo. The interior was festive, inviting, and clean. The staff were friendly. And the food was delicious. The salsa here was very tasty. I got the 5 tacos, and was pleasantly surprised by the low costs of it.

Solid place. Ordered the Alambre platter with 5 tacos, all Steak. Great portions of steak, good flavor. Great combination of onions and peppers. Order came with rice & beans, good flavor. Order this, and you won't go hungry. Cool downtown spot, open late, 10 minute walk from home. Plenty of seating inside and out. Only thing, and this doesn't go against the restaurant, but don't order delivery through their website if you can help it. Ordered through there, and it was assigned to Uber Eats. 6 drivers and 90 minutes later, my order was cancelled. I called the restaurant, and the staff was VERY helpful. Apparently, one driver stole my food, so every other driver was told there was no order to pick up. By ordering through the restaurant website, I couldn't dispute this with Uber Eats, since my account didn't reflect an order. However, the restaurant staff was VERY NICE in helping to issue a refund. I recommend the staff, not the delivery aspect. 2 hours later, and I wound up going to get a new order myself... even though I was feeling sick, which defeated the purpose of the delivery in the first place. Either way, I recommend the food, the staff, and the restaurant.. just not their hired delivery service.

Most tender meat I've had in a taco! I got their 3 taco plate with Barbacoa and Al Pastor and both were very tender. It comes with a good amount of onion and lime which I like and both their ranch sauce and salad verde are super tasty. Good amount of rice and beans. We went here late at night and they hit so hardddd. Also got their horchata which was also solid. Nice interior and staff were friendly! Solid pricing especially being in downtown Dallas and open late so I'll definitely be back!

Came to visit based on a work trip. The restaurant was fairly empty, but located in a great spot downtown. The server was friendly enough, offering suggestions for what I should try. I ended up ordering the three taco plate with chicken. Overall, my meal was OK But nothing too else standing for Mexican food in Texas.

Pretty much everything is gluten free unless you get your tacos with flour tortillas. Go for corn!

Any chance their corn tortillas and chips are gluten free? Sounds like my kinda place, but I have to ask.

    Corn tortillas are always gluten-free

Do not pass up on the bone marrow sauce, it transforms the dish to beyond a 10/10! The salsas are always good and then tortilla chips salty and fresh. I start with a skinny margarita w a salt rim, which was good. Our waiter, Abraham, was great! He was very attentive and was very knowledgeable about the menu. We also order the ceviche to start, which was yummy! The crackers were a bit of an odd pairing for me and I stuck with tortilla chips, but overall delicious!! Here in Texas, chips and salsa are such a commonplace experience it's off-putting to pay for them. We ordered the guacamole and the chips and salsa come with it, so that was, I guess, better...but the guacamole was $16, so there's that. The salsa was tasty as was the guacamole, but again, for the portion it's really not worth it. We had the queso flameado, which was yummy and the flour tortillas are good! We split the sirloin and were underwhelmed. For a grilled meats place the steak was very under seasoned and wasn't giving us fresh hot grilled vibes. Meh at best, as were the rice and beans. Chris our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took his time walking us through the menu and explaining what made El Carlos Elegante so special. The drinks were perfect. My wife loved her Desert Flor while I thoroughly enjoyed my Modelo Micheleda. Her Surf and Turf one hitter was exceptional. I have to say my Crab Cake was just ok. It tasted a little pasty and very heavy on the bread. The Pulpo was absolutely amazing. Perfect texture and the sauce it was served almost had me licking the plate. The El Machete was incredible from its presentation, to the freshness of the corn tortilla, to the quality of the meat inside. Definitely recommend this. We really liked our Okra + Shishito course, we just wished it had more okra in it. The two things I loved about the Al Pastor was of course the sauce it was served on but the fact that I got to enjoy it like a steak. It was served sliced on a bias like flank steak. Typically Al Pastor is finely chopped and served in tacos and burritos, so this was a different eating experience for me. And of course it was delicious as well. We cannot wait to come back and try more of the menu.

That visit checked every box -- the food, service, ambiance, and overall hospitality were all exceptional. What really stood out to me then was the attention to detail. I had casually mentioned that one of my cocktails wasn't quite my taste, and Harry personally reached out afterward to say they'd gladly adjust it next time. That kind of thoughtful follow-up leaves a lasting impression and is exactly the sort of hospitality that elevates a restaurant experience. Unfortunately, this recent visit felt like a completely different restaurant. We decided to do a combination of à la carte dishes along with the Experience menu after being told this version would feature entirely off-menu items, which genuinely intrigued us since Ihad also done the Experience previously. At the start of dinner, we were asked about allergies and dietary restrictions. I clearly explained that I have a mango allergy and do not eat beef. Our server then asked whether I ate other meats, and I clarified yes -- and even specifically mentioned that if the machete dish was beef, please still include it because my friend could enjoy it and I really wanted her to try it. He confirmed it would be the sirloin version, so we happily agreed not to modify that course. So imagine our surprise when one of the first dishes arrived dressed with a mango vinaigrette. Thankfully, we barely caught him quietly mentioning "mango" as he set it down. We immediately looked at each other thinking, "Didn't we just discuss the allergy?" It was disappointing, but unfortunately also representative of the overall service throughout the evening. Our server seemed disengaged, inattentive, and often not fully listening. Empty glasses sat untouched, opportunities to order additional items were missed, and at one point we were simply handed the check without even being asked if we wanted anything else. We also ordered a bottle of sparkling wine and ended up pouring it ourselves for most of the evening because our glasses were rarely refilled. I completely understand not leaving the bottle tableside if walkway space is limited, but repeatedly needing to get up ourselves to retrieve it felt out of sync with the level of service one expects from a Michelin-recommended restaurant -- especially at this price point. Then came the machete dish. Instead of the sirloin version we specifically discussed, we received the vegetarian potato version. When the server asked how it looked, I politely explained that we were disappointed because he had specifically told us it would be the sirloin preparation. At minimum, I would have expected another protein substitution given the earlier conversation about what I could eat. I'm also still unclear whether the Experience menu was truly "off-menu" as described, since several dishes -- including the halibut -- appeared familiar. Had that been communicated differently, we likely would have skipped the Experience altogether and simply curated our own meal. At the end of the night, spending over $500 while pouring our own wine, nearly being served an allergen we explicitly disclosed, and receiving dishes different from what was promised made for a deeply disappointing experience -- especially after such a phenomenal first visit. It honestly felt sad more than anything because I know how wonderful this restaurant can be. I'm not sure what changed in the last five months, but the difference was significant.
