I love this place, and desperately want it to succeed…read more My partner and I can't afford to go a lot; we're not rich or even medium income. But when we can go, it's so worth it. I am not certain, but I think reservations are a must. That may not be; check when you call. Either way, make a reservation regardless, because seating in this small culinary gem is limited. The meal is not pre-prepared. You are going to wait. That's good. Have a drink, kick back, and let the feeling that life is good wash over you. Because it is. That's what the best restaurants give you: the sense that life is good, is special, and places like this are worth every penny you spend on their food and drink. The chefs and the cooks and the wait staff aren't hidden behind a door, but work behind a counter, usually with some boss music playing. The last time we were there it was some tasty R&B, but it changes. Another plus. It isn't loud, just enough to add to the ambience. Excellent Italian food awaits. Not a big menu, but the best places don't have big menus. Very decently priced for the portion sizes and the atmosphere. Our last outing we dropped $85 for food, drinks, and a 20% tip. So worth it. Small towns like Port Orford ... they survive by means of places like these. Not corporately owned, but locally; not a chain, but a small, intimate, proudly part of the town, open and welcoming. If you're passing through, pop by. Their hours are limited (especially in winter), so don't hesitate to make a reservation if you're going to go. Bon appetite!

This is a hidden gem. Felt like we're enjoying a taste of Italy. Homemade everything. Enjoyed a dry…read moreItalian white to complement the meal. Service and food were phenomenal. Brava!

Plus, they won't scramble the omelettes, but you can get scrambled eggs, which makes no sense. Ridiculous! I mean, come on! It was ok. Server was OK.

Our waitress seemed…read moreirritated with us from the start, and mind you all we had done was sit at the table she instructed us to sit at. For context, I've been a waitress on the coast for nearly 10 years, so I'm usually very mindful of not making a server's job harder, but this felt different. When we ordered, she came across as genuinely annoyed. Did she check on things like coffee? Yes, but with a look of annoyance that made the whole interaction uncomfortable. The food itself was mediocre at best. The gravy was meh, though the chicken fried steak was decent. The "hash browns," however, were not traditional hash browns, they were more like oven roasted potatoes smashed on the grill, which was disappointing if you're expecting the classic version. The pricing was another surprise. I work at a higher end restaurant, and their brunch prices are comparable to what we paid here, which says a lot, considering this is supposed to be a basic diner experience. When our food was dropped off, we were told the toast would be "just a minute." No problem, but when it finally arrived, it was completely cold, with unmelted "butter" that had little to no flavor. And as someone who grew up eating margarine and then transitioning to butter, I knew that this was margarine. My boyfriend who has never had margarine didn't understand why his butter didn't "taste like anything". Also worth noting, my partner ordered a side of sausage links, four small links for $9, yup your read that right, $9 dollars for a side of sausage. Overall, the service felt hostile with a fake mask, the food was mediocre, and the pricing didn't match the experience. As a person who was raised here on the coast and thought to "experience double d's diner again" since it has been a few years, I won't be returning.
