The sites are superbly clean & maintained, as are the trails. An easy trail system, nothing difficult unless you're on a mtb. Fireflies, owls, bats, armadillos, & VERY persistent/overly-friendly raccoons are some neat wild residents! Pack your food tight & leave nothing out, these raccoons are difficult to chase off! The fog from the lake rolls in at night, so have a hammock tarp ready, or camp in a tent, if you're staying the night. I had an exhilarating & awe-inspiring time, what a magnificent park. read more

Wanna get away, and kind of stay in town at the same time? Well folks Tyler State Park is a good choice!! Especially if you are like myself and adore the outdoors. For just a few bucks to enter the park, you can park your car and go on a mini wanderlust adventure through the piney woods. This park showcases all of east Texas in its natural beauty. There's a lake to do some kayaking, trails to get lost in, and even cabins/shelters if you want to make a weekend out of it. I was at this park for a race and we ended up staying overnight Friday in the shelters. They were very clean, just bring a cot or whatever to sleep on and a fan and whatever other essentials you typically take to camp. There are plugs inside for phone chargers and etc. It's very quiet and peaceful at night and there are bathrooms and showers nearby. I definitely want to go back soon to take more advantage of the camping part of it. There's plenty of parking (it does get crowded on weekends so arrive early) and its perfect for families or occasions with friends. Super fun if you love outdoors and being active. Check it out! Beautiful walking trails. You can take the trail that circles around lake for a scenic shorter adventure or you can go into the deeper trails for a deeper and longer exploration. Please be sure to stay on the trails so you don't get lost. Many people get turned around and lost if they leave the trails path. I recommend staying on the path even if you are experienced. Go during spring and the view is absolutely stunning. read more

Great state park for many reasons! You can fish, hike, rent boats, camp, etc. It does cost $6/person to enter for a day. There's two trials, one in the woods and one that circles the lake. Dog friendly but leashes are required. We did the lake loop which was about 2 miles and was a moderate trail, mainly flat but there were some rooted sections (be mindful of tripping). The wood trail is 1.5 miles. Worth stopping by! read more

I just got back from 2 nights and 3 days here. We stayed in the Lakeview Premium camp sites and the tent pads were nice. There's some large sweet gum trees that drop the large spiky balls, so I recommend a rake to help clear the area. Because of the time of the year and the days we went, the paddle boats weren't available for rent. There was no firewood available so be sure to bring your own. We didn't try fishing. It really is pretty, especially at sunset. It's great for birding. I saw a couple of red-headed woodpeckers, several cardinals. I did not enjoy the regular visits from the raccoons. I hear pepper spray is effective, so I'll definitely bring some next visit. The showers got hot, which is extremely important for my kind of camping. The restrooms had toilet paper but no soap. The playground area for the kids was great. Bugs weren't too bad, but they were definitely around day and night. The camp sites in the Lakeview area are pretty close and there's not much privacy. I think it might be better in the other camp areas though. The screened shelters seemed close to each other too. We didn't get any visits from the park ranger which was nice, and I know my group was up late on both nights. I look forward to going back. Hard to beat for being within 2 hours drive from Irving. read more

LOVE this park!!! Our stay was amazing and I can't wait to go back. The wildlife activity was so entertaining. The park is absolutely beautiful. The RV spots are spacious and just close enough to social if you'd like yet privacy if that's what you prefer. The rangers in the park were knowledgeable very helpful. Beautiful State Park! We traveled up here for the day to check out camping sites. We normally rent the screened shelters and were looking for some on the water but these were more in the wooded sections. It is a very small lake but is set up nicely for outdoor family activities. Will definitely visit for a day trip if we are in the area. read more

Tyler State Park is our go to place for tent camping. We've stayed in hickory hollow and dogwood camp sites. Hickory hollow is nice and is just a quick climb up the stairs to the restrooms. Dogwood is a bit further. Make reservations to ensure you have a spot or you'll be turning around after a long drive. read more

We love Tyler State Park! This was our first visit and definitely plan to go back. The park is clean and most RV sites are pull through. The sites near the lake are full hookup (sewer). There are plenty of trails to hike/bike. One thing that would make hiking/biking much better would be trail signage. Even with a trail map, it was sometimes confusing since there were little to no direction signs posted. The trails are well kept, some very challenging, others moderate. The area we camped didn't have a dumpster near the bathroom, so trash had to be deposited in the bathroom trashcan. Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be going back again! read more

One of the best, if not THE best, state parks in Texas. We come every year. Tents, group shelters, and RV sites with full and partial hook-ups. Lakeview Loop is the most scenic location as it's on the water but we have yet to find a poor location in any of the loops. Mountain biking, hiking, Geocaching, ranger-led nature programs (the snake program on saturdays is a must-see), amazing playground, fishing, canoeing, paddle boats, and a nice swim area. Whether you're a camping veteran or a newbie, check out Tyler State Park. You won't be disappointed. Make reservations if possible - it fills up fast. read more

We hiked for the day here and thought it was very beautiful. They have a large lake that you can rent paddle boats, canoes, bicycle boats, etc. We thought that the trails were nice, however the trail maps could have been a little more clear and the trails could have been marked better. The park is beautiful and they have a little bridge on the one end of the lake that was really nice to look out at all the turtles and fish in the water. They also have a nice looking beach wish a platform to play on out in the lake! It looked like fun, but it was to cold for us to swim. Entrance fee to get into the park is $3.00 per person and in all of the state parks in Texas you do NOT need a fishing license to fish! What a great perk! We spoke with some of the fisherman who were there and they said it is some of the best bass fishing in the country in this part of Texas! He said they also catch a lot of catfish too! read more

This has been my favorite state park for various reasons. It's a beautiful park but the constant sound of gun fire is very disturbing. I left Dallas to get away from hearing gunshots. What's the deal? We were told a shooting range was put in next door. This is a beautiful state park. We had a site in the big pines loop. It is rv to rv and a bit crowded feeling. Our picnic table was wobbly and needed repair and the site itself was trash filled. But the table and campfire area was a good size. There are a lot of great bike trails. They have a swimming area but it gets very crowded with day use visitors. We took on son Sunday and it wasn't as bad. There are beautiful stairs and bridges and sights to see. You can also rent boats and other things for water fun. read more

Great place to go for a cool swim on a hot summers day. A little crowded but still a good place to go.

Wonderful Campground. Convenient to i-20 but just far enough away you can't hear the traffic. Nice litle lake with good fishing. The RV site we were in had full hook ups. Some spots are lakeside and others are in a loop. The loop offers the option of camping on the inner circle which is good if you have kids that want to run and play. Or outer loop which face the woods for more privacy. read more

Fun, simple state park. Did the loop around the lake which is about 2 miles or a 30min - 1hour walk depending on how fast you are. Nice and easy, not much uphill or anything so manageable for kids. Would recommend it as an easy daytime activity. read more

Gorgeous shady camping spots and easy talks to hike. Due to flooding all trails closed to bikes. Camp store rents canoes, paddle boats and row boats. Nice swimming area for kiddos. Talked to all the fisherman as we walked around the lake... No one had any bites so maybe not a fishing lake. Facilities clean and staffs friendly. Bathrooms cleaned twice daily! Amazing park staff from when you check in to when you leave. We had great weather our entire stay. The lake view camp sites are outstandingly beautiful and worth the little extra for tent camping. The facilities are clean and well maintained. Showers and toilets, not a bad way to camp. The lake has everything you would want, boats, paddle boats and fishing. The store has just about everything you forgot to bring and not a bad price. Ice available on site, cheaper than most gas stations. My grown sons and I stopped in to see the park today because we scheduled our vacation for July and have booked our shelter but have never seen the park. Awesome park. There are many activities for everyone in your family to do. They have paddle boats and canoes. You can fish or just stay close to the shore and swim. They also have many different hiking trails, from east to difficult. We chose to hike around the lake which was a 2.1 mile hike. It was nice but at some times confusing as to which way to go, especially when you come out by the boat dock/camp site. But overall, I enjoyed the time we were there. I recently camped here while traveling, and found it to be a nice place to stay the night. The campsites were well proportioned, and the bathrooms were clean (always important). The park is convenient to the highway, and the pricing is reasonable. I'd recommend it to people looking for a place to spend a night or a few days. read more

We had a great time and Tyler State Park and look forward to another visit soon! While the sites are a little close together, we tend to travel during the week which means less traffic. Thoroughly enjoyed this park. Good trails and great scenery of the east Texas pines. Nice escape from the DFW rat race. They have some really nice trails however once you get on the trails they are not clearly marked :( i got lost twice because there are no markers besides the main trail heads. Other then that the park store is cool and they have a lot of activities here! Really well kept, didn't see a lot of trash either. read more

This place is amazing! Everything about it! I absolutely will be getting the TX State Park pass for my family to return! We loved camping here, the water is perfect and my kids loved jumping off of the platform into the lake. The store on sight is expensive which I guess is to be expected. They're "dog friendly" but dogs aren't allowed in the water and they have to be behind a gate close to the water, and you can't tie your dog up to get in the water either. So basically don't bring ur dog if you plan to swim. read more

Our first visit in a Texas state park. We were impressed. Staff very friendly and helpful. My husbands step daughter decided at the last minute that her and her husband wanted to join us at the park. Most spaces were full and since we have a 45ft RV, we were limited on where we could park. The staff was great about moving some stuff around to put his step daughter right next to us. Full hook ups. Great views. Park rangers do a great job of keeping the park up. read more

was my first and last time i ever visit this state park. upon arrival everything was good but about a hour into being there on of the state park enforcement came and told us to move due to being in a reserve station, we did not argue we apologized and let her know we weren't aware and started packing our stuff into the cars and and moved she sat in her truck and waited for us to move. we moved and again she came back and told us we needed to move because that too was a reserved area, i then told her she told us that the area with the waist high grills was okay for us to go set up at... she then stated that she highlighted the map in purple for us to go to areas we could grill at...we moved again apologized and finally went to a area were we could sit at minutes after 3 state park trucks pull up and i start feeling uncomfortable because i feel as if were being watched, i kept telling my parents i felt uncomfortable and didn't want to stay any longer they told me to relax and just enjoy our day because we weren't doing anything wrong, i agreed and went about my day... hours later we're getting our stuff together to leave, i then again see all 3 state park enforcement officers and they follow us with their eyes at this point all my family noticed and they felt uncomfortable as well so we hurried and got our things into the car fast to leave because we didn't want to cause a scene or start any unwanted problems. as we are putting our things into the cars all 3 state park enforcement get in the trucks and start driving off into multiple areas i guess trying to play off that they were gonna follow us. as we're getting close to the exit of the park officer martin turns on his lights, we park the truck and he walks up to the driver side and tells us that the reason were being pulled over is because we were "speeding " my dad apologized and said that as he was going down hill it was kind of hard to control the breaks, he then accused my dad of being drunk, mind you my dad hasn't drinked in over 20 years... Officer Martin then said that my dads eyes were blood shot red and he looked intoxicated i then told officer martin that my dad suffers from high blood pressure and his eyes tend to get blood shot red alot due to that & that he could do a breathalyzer test on him if he pleased... he nodded and asked for license and proof of insurance my dad gave him his license and we did not have a copy of our insurance so we told him we didn't have one but did have insurance on the truck... he then asked me if my dad was drinking or if he had a drinking addiction i then told him i dont think i ever saw my dad drink once in my life and that i assure him my dad was sober. Officer martin then asked my dad if he was willing to provide a breathalyzer test for him, my dad said yes no problem... took the test and passed. officer martin did not apologize for the accusations and just told us we were getting a "warning" mind you he never once went to go check my dads license or asked about the insurance again. i didn't want to argue with him or make a scene i just wanted to get out of there. so i said thank you and exited the park....i was very respectful to all the state park enforcement and so was my family. and i still don't understand why we were treated as such. i honestly don't ever want to return to this state park after what we went through today. definitely do not recommend anyone to come here unless u want to to be treated like trash by state park enforcement. read more
