It's a personal thing, possibly connected to being a huge consumerist ass hole whilst having a huge problem with consumerism. For me, buying a £300 pair of shoes is wrong but necessary, where as buying two plain white enamel breakfast bowls for £16 seems ridiculous. I am aware that this statement is ridiculous in itself, in fact, I just don't want to talk about it anymore. I will say though, that this shop is lovely, but I prefer Ikea.

I must have been in here hundreds of times and it was only on my last visit that I made a conscious effort to read the small white writing on the door frame that read SCP. Come on guys, I know you're trying to be stylish but with a shop this good you should be screaming your name from the roof top! SCP is the kind of place that most of us will never buy anything from but will nonetheless enjoy roaming through the store. Furniture in here is so stylish it would only suit a very specific style of house and a very full wallet for that matter! However, for the rest of us SCP also stocks a great range of smaller items, kitchen accessories and design books. These things are a lot more affordable and will allow you to take home a bit of SCP's style without breaking the budget. Staff are lovely although I always get the impression they are looking over my shoulder for a more profitable customer. This aside, SCP is a great shop!

I usually like to wander inside the shops, looking at the displays and every now and them, indulging myself with a guilty pleasure, so when I visited this branch with my family, I was expecting more of the same: lovely things and attentive customer service. The thing with this one Oliver Bonas in particular is the customer service. When I have visited some of the other shops, everyone seems happy to help, but not here! There were 3 members of staff in sight, two chatting behind the till in another language and one running around counting the displays. No greetings, no acknowledge of us or the other customer, who seemed very interested in the jewellery cabinet and was trying to gain their attention. We didn't really need anything, we were merely browsing, killing time, but we left very disappointed with the staff. A simple hello would have been nice!

After reading at Londonist…read more(http://londonist.com/2013/06/marc-gooderhams-paintings-of-londons-east-end.php) about a little exhibition at Townhouse Antiques near Spitalfields Market, I decided to take the journey from west to east and take a look myself. I enjoyed the paintings of London houses and streets by artist Marc Gooderham (http://www.marcgooderham.co.uk/). He focuses, in his words, on "the singular beauty to be found in those neglected buildings that have fallen into disrepair as the living city of London continues to evolve around them." While I was contemplating over the paintings and browsing the books on display, another guy with a cute dog, who also visited this exhibition space, took to the piano that was standing in one corner. His play made me stay a bit longer and I like this place even more. Besides showing inspiring London paintings, Townhouse Antiques also sells books and various other stuff. Randomly, one book caught my attention: One Lump or Two? - a book about tea filled with illustrations by British artist Edward Bawden and a "series of humorous limericks for Twinings Tea". It looks like a fun "essentially British" present. Although I do not know what exhibition is on at Townhouse Antiques at the moment, I was told that almost always something is on display. If you have never been to Townhouse Antiques, you should probably stop by when you are in the area, I am sure it will be worth the visit!
