Wow, wow, wow. Quite possibly one of the ten best lunches or dinners in my life. First, a lunch only place, that's right, lunch only, and perhaps private dinners for 10 or more. Didn't really want to review this place because of the possibility of "foodies" coming here and screwing it up for others or to turn off the fabulous staff to foreigners. About five kilometers or so, from the tourist zoo, yet not to be missed, Bruges. There are a couple of decent places there, but also a lot of bad ones, and again, the hordes, teeming multitudes of tourists. BUT nothing comes even close to this small restaurant with a talented young chef who personally served our food. Every table and seat has a good view of the kitchen. Some kind of wonderful pressed meat app, followed by a sensational partridge with celery root was quite simply mind blowing. Oysters, and a steak which equalled or surpassed anything I have ever had, including the finest steakhouses of the world. Apparently the chefs brother has milk cows (Holsteins I think) and provides the organic meat.
Whole Turbot on the grill was sublime. Mussels, small, wild, from France, were the best we had in Belgium. Very simply prepared with the very best ingredients seems to be their reason for being. Great service from two attractive and attentive servers made for a memorable meal I will be talking about for years to come. PLEASE, PLEASE, don't come here if you are an A-hole, jerk, or otherwise offensive. It's simply too good to ruin for the locals. Would drive the one hour here from Brussels just to eat at this restaurant, and maybe even crawl here on broken glass. Really, it's that good, and just the right mix of fancy and casual. You would feel comfortable here and enjoy the food in jeans and a sweater or in a suit and tie. read more
