This department is ran by people that are completely unwilling to work with recruits that have a passion for fire fighting and will fire recruits with days left in their academy experience based of little to no Merritt but will write it out however they see fit, to keep them in good standing with the public eye, or what they consider good so that they sleep perfectly fine at night. Louisville Metro fire department is a "good ole boys" club that fits perfectly in the Kentucky theme. They are discriminatory that promote and hire minorities, not based off capabilities but based off numbers. This department feels like they need to have certain number of minorities in lower and power positions and will not exceed that number no matter what so the minorities that are in power positions will not do anything that will help out other minorities if it means putting their own selfish and unhelpful lives in jeopardy. They unfairly run recruits out the academy if they are of darker skin complexion or female. For what you ask? This is a fire department in a part of the country that considers themselves the cream of the crop but they the weeds in the garden and needs to be investigated immediately.

No AI VOICE ,SIL. , Tiffany, answered in just a few rings. Patiently, she answered all my questions. I asked if I was receiving all the discounts available to me, and she referenced a new Indiana tax law that gives seniors an extra $100 discount on property taxes. She went on to explain the qualifications for the discount (age/adjusted gross income) and that I needed to come by the office with my 2025 federal tax return. Dreading a visit to the new Clark County Government Center, I was expecting long waits, cranky clerks - you know the drill. But I was pleasantly surprised. A short wait (maybe 5 minutes), and Tiffany was there to help. I was in and out in under 15 minutes. Now, I'm sure not every day runs this smoothly, but it's great to visit a government office and be greeted with a smile and efficient service.

Today I went on a prison tour with Students from the Kentucky Innocence project (KIP). Walking through the gate means that everything on you will be searched, thankfully not strip searched. There are metal detectors and I was patted down to make sure I wasn't packing weapons or drugs. (Seriously, don't bring that stuff to a prison, you will end up in prison) We were told the original KSR was located in Frankfort, but it flooded and was moved to LaGrange in 1930. We got a chance to look at cell block A, the psych unit, segregation, medical unit and the dog program unit. As you can imagine, the dog unit was a favorite for everyone on the tour. The dogs are trained up for a couple weeks, then are available for adoption through the Oldham County Humane Society. They are well behaved & cute--the dogs, not the tenants. Like most prisons, this place is best just to visit and not for an extended stay. This place still isn't a Hilton so it loses a star.

Box, instruction on requirements of a new physical mailbox at my residence, and the sending/tracking of a couple international packages to Europe. The Post Master/Mistress has always been very helpful and anytime I call her she takes care of my concerns or answers my questions. A little history about Oldham County Post offices: The first two post offices in Oldham County were Westport, on the Ohio River, and Floydsburg, near Crestwood. Floydsburg, one mile outside of Crestwood, was located along a major stagecoach route between Louisville and New Castle, which went on to Frankfort. It collected mail for the central part of the county. This was a stage coach "toll" road, and people paid tolls here to pass through. There were several other major stagecoach lines that developed in Oldham County that delivered mail, one of which connected at Beard's Station, which later was renamed Crestwood. A densely forested area of hardwood trees of hickory, ironwood, beech and popular adorned the area during its early history, which began around 1850. The community's founder was Joseph Beard, son of William and a nephew and direct descendant of John Campbell -- the leader of the Campbell clan, which has deep roots in Scottish history.
