It definitely screams Deep South in a good way. There are multiple restaurants, small businesses and more in the downtown area. I was here overnight recently and enjoyed visiting the downtown area. I have also passed through it many times and enjoyed some good restaurants. Valdosta, Georgia is an evolving community and I believe it is a positive evolution. Valdosta doesn't have to be a sleepy little blip on Interstate 75 and it will continue to come into its own as time and Valdosta, Georgia progresses.

She keeps receiving citations from the city about her yard. Which she does keep up the best she can. But, apparently there's someone riding around citing people for their grass/yards. You would think in these days and times with the cost of everything skyrocketing the city wouldn't be putting the squeeze on people in lower income neighborhoods. Not the case. Instead they wait for the weekend to pass and then hit the streets to extract money from the citizens by being petty. My girlfriend works weekends and has to do her yard during the week. (When she can) She doesn't live in an HOA and none of her neighbors are calling the city so, why the city is using hard times to make citizens lives even harder is beyond me. It's truly disgusting. I know she isn't the only one dealing with this and I'm helping where I can. It's the total disconnect from what people are going through these days that has me writing this review. If people are struggling with food, gas, bills, etc. Why is the city out there citing people that are already stressed and overwhelmed. I repeat. Disgusting. It's unacceptable and the City of Valdosta needs to check it's moral fiber and duty to struggling residents. The insult to injury is knowing that privileged government administrators that can afford landscape maintenance are comfortable with this kind of financial pressure on single parents. It's really incredible in an inconsiderate and disturbing way. STOP IT!!!!

The historic court house is in downtown Valdosta, the seat of Lowndes County. This is the 7th…read morecourthouse in the county's history, the first several were destroyed by fire. Oddly, none of the destructions during the Civil War. The previous one had been a two story red brick structure but it was demolished in 1904 and this one, the current building, was completed the following year. The building is no longer active as a courthouse as the functions moved up the street to the Lowndes County Judicial Complex. Pretty to look through the windows though the building was secured. It is in the Neoclassical Revival style, designed by noted architect Frank Pierce Milburn (1868-1926) who is responsible for a number of other courthouses around the USA as well as the South Carolina State Capitol in Columbia. There are several monuments on the courthouse grounds including the Civil War Memorial, a 9/11 memorial and a "Veterans of All Wars." Street parking is all around though has a two hour limit.
