Avoid peak times due to lines, but otherwise, the people who work here are very nice and helpful. I agree that it could go faster, but it does help when they have more people working the windows. Seems like that has been cut back lately. I appreciate that they take time to run the postage several ways for the better options because postage is getting so expensive. It is not the workers' fault. They have no influence over the costs. During peak times, they also sometimes separate the customers by purpose so that if you are only picking up a package you move to the end window. The lobby has a good machine to weigh and purchase your postage for packages and envelopes. My local letter carrier is a great guy. So nice. He even knows to not let the cats out so he'll ring the bell if he sees them by the glass door, rather than open it--we have a mail slot. He lives in the neighborhood and treats us as neighbors--so thanks for that. read more

This is the third time this post office has closed early, which is unacceptable. Today, I was not allowed to enter the building, even though it was still within posted business hours. A man stood at the door blocking entry, claiming to be an employee but not in uniform, which was unprofessional. The manager was extremely rude and closed the office 20 minutes early. She took my packages, told me to place them in the bin, and would not let me inside. As a result, none of my three packages were scanned, I was not given a receipt, and there is no tracking update in the system. So I just went to pick up a roll of stamps. It was 4:45, they close at 5. There were 3 people in front of me and 6 people behind me, The singular attendant (Paul) decided he wasn't gonna take care of customers and count his drawer instead. Took him about 10 minutes. Then we he started to take care of the rest of us he wasn't accepting cash any more since he had already counted his drawer. Not only did we have to wait, me and the customer in front of me wanted to pay cash and could not. I could only assume 1 or 2 people behind me were gonna try and use cash as well. Service at this location is generally not good. There is usually one, sometimes two attendants. On Saturday late morning, there was one attendant and a line. The attendant was pleasant and nice, even though she was very busy. The self service machine was not working and has not worked for weeks. If it was operational, it may reduce the line. Older gentle man working behind the counter - ordering people to stop and go in an angry manor for no apparent reason, yelled at a high school kid trying to mail a package, no one in line understood exactly what the issue was, kid just left with his head down and package still in hand. Paul closed the door at 6:54 in front of my face with customers still inside. If there was a fire everyone would have to wait for Paul to open the door. I walked in when Paul came to open the door for a customer who was leaving. Paul refused to serve me , was mocking me when I said I will call the police on him and walked away when he served the customer before me and asked Mary to ring me up. USPS continues to demonstrate their carelessness and incompetence. Regardless of location. Brought on 3 packages all with labels on them already, simply needed a a receipt. While the wait was not the usual long wait. Moung, the USPS employee managed to toss my packages in the bin from at least a good 12 to 18 inches above. I mentioned to her about the packages being delicate. With the most nonchalant face and attitude and facial expression she just shrugged it off. It was one of those "it's closing time, I don't give a shit" faces. With that service, I can see why most USPS locations have craptastic Yelp and Google ratings. read more

The Mt Prospect post office is one the worst I ever been to. The clerks move very slow and tend to chat with the customers. THIS PLACE SUCKS. They have lost 2 registered letters to me since September, even though the tracing service said they were "out for delivery' in my zip code. The manager was no prize either. He had no qualms about admitting stealing Girls Gone Wild DVDs from the inbound deliveries for himself. after that he got surly because I was not walking away a whipped dog and but asking more questions instead. He suggested I contact the seller for a refund on postage. 1). That would have been a fool's errand since the tracing info showed that it had been delivered. and 2.) I have lived in Mt Prospect for over 48 years and have been putting up with delivery of my mail at 7,8 PM for years. When I spoke to my carrier about how late the mail was coming he told me a few weeks ago that they took the mail home on Monday night because it was to late to deliver , today I had two delivery by the post office and I got a tracking message saying they were delivered in my mail box . I went out and could not find them. I went out the second time and walked down my street and found my mail in someone else's mailbox. this is not the first time this has happened but its the last straw. The package contained $2,300 worth of medicine that I was waiting for delivery. They have gotten so bad. There is no excuses for so many errors. read more

I don't understand why they don't hire a couple more people so that customers don't have to wait in line for a half hour, or worse turn around as soon as they walk in and see the line that has formed. If Hell had a post office, this would be it. The African American lady with the glasses is unhelpful, slow and rude. I wanted to ship a letter via registered mail to Brazil, she said she can't, I can only ship it unregistered or use their $50 global express shipping. I went home, called USPS customer service and the supervisor of the Mount Prospect post office, both said that I CAN ship it registered and she was wrong. Please USPS HIRE NEW EMPLOYEES it would speed up the huge lines (30 minute wait usually) and they would hopefully be more knowledgeable about shipping services. Routinely brought 50 +- packages completely ready to go just scan and tell me how much. One day I was told go to UPS it's too many pkgs for them. I said isn't that good more business? Was told no we get paid the same if you bring 100 or 1 pkg. That's why purposefully slow so you will go somewhere else and they can get back to napping. If they only got paid by amount of business they would come to life and work top speed. Maybe letting a few go would light a fire under others to pick up the slack. Start with eliminating the questions regarding adding more services & list of expensive examples for each package after I said send all cheapest way no extras, I'm in a hurry. Been here 40 yrs never any different. It can change, been to other POs on vacation other states and they are super speedy & organized, no wasting time on things you already said you don't want. The lady who helped me get my passport was super nice and super sweet; and ontop of that, she made my passport nightmare an easy feat. All of the people that work here are very nice and friendly. Ive never had any issues here. I know there's lines, but waiting is part of life. Theres lines everywhere. Ive noticed that most of the customers here are EXTREMELY RUDE AND ENTITLED (and also stupid). And a majority of the customers have 0 patience as well and expect everything asap. I accidentally dropped a pre-paid UPS package in their lobby drop box, realized my mistake a full week later, and they very kindly were able to re-locate my package for me so I could drop it off with the right carrier. Wow. What can I say. Going to this place gives you an understanding of just how bad the USPS is from a customer service perspective. Most of the people at desk play a game where they ignore you until someone breaks and takes the customer. Really infuriating to watch people look at you then go in back for some unknown purpose and return 5 minutes later. Usually at that point they count some cash or check something on the computer then maybe replenish a stack of forms - all the while the line continues to grow and grow. Usually at that time a guy comes out from the back to ask if anyone is picking up mail - and 9 times of out 10 no one is there for that purpose. He then goes back to doing nothing rather than helping to get people through the line. In general, if you need to speak to someone budget in 30 to 45 minutes - it is never less. Good luck. read more

Delores was delightful to work with and we were done within 20 minutes! On the bright side, this office is usually pretty clean and has a nice layout. The automated machines are well-situated for the holiday rush and I've yet to see an 'out-of-order' sign. Unfortunately the physical employees don't show much more animation than their machinated counterparts. Some days the employees are kinda rude, but most days they're just really slow. My regular post office always has employees running around very quickly, working as fast as they can on various sorting/packing/mail checking errands. I've never seen anyone in the background at this office who looked like they were working, much less hurrying. The counters are also very awkward for shorter people- I can hardly even see the credit/debit machine and I can only hope that I enter the right pin every time. I always avoid this office unless my regular one is closed (unusual that they're open an hour later here- must be the only way they can catch up to the average workload). read more
