Well, I guess they're pretty laid back in the neck of the woods! There is nothing here but a museum and a post office in this historic fishing village. The post office is adorable and looks over the river. If the postmaster was more receptive and professional, this would have been 4 stars all the way!

Located in Callao, on Route 360, this place offers everything you'll need for a tour of the rural Rivah life! I'm so glad I meandered to the back of the store and discovered the small office in the back. The clerk welcomed me and drew my attention to various points of interest in the area! I grabbed a couple of brochures, magazines and maps to enhance my visit to the Northern Neck! They have an official visitors guide which highlights nearby events, dining options, tours and landmarks. I signed the guest book and was surprised to see other visitors from all over the country! This little corner of the world certainly draws people to the beautiful scenery, the serene river views and the exceptional wildlife. I can't wait to explore more history and sites! They also stock a few gifts and books! Check it out and enjoy your stay!

This is a small memorial that is located on the front lawn of the Westmoreland County Courthouse…read more It was sculpted by Michael VanderSommen in 1982. It is the granite bust of a male Vietnam solider located on a pedestal. The pedestal has an inscription that honors all the Vietnam veterans and specifically local vets. The grounds are well maintained and there is free parking in front of the memorial, as well as across the street. The backstory on the memorial is awesome. If was funded by the residents of Montross through fundraisers such as barbecues and yard sales. The memorial is nice, but is very plain and not much to it. I do not see making this memorial a destination stop.

This town is near Tappahannock, over the rappahannock river. Warsaw is a unincorporated community with a population of about 1,600. The name Warsaw was named after in 1830 in support of Poland due to the uprising. Now a quaint town in the northern neck, its post office is aptly named. What makes this minuscule post office in Walkerton a 4 star is the postmaster, Linwood! He knows…read moreeveryone in the neighborhood and he chats with all his neighbors... yes neighbors not just customers! He told me that the owner of Scott's Store next door has his roots in the post office! His dad was postmaster for years! Linwood thinks this small square brick cube of a building has been around since the early 70's, but maybe even before. When I walked next door (in Walkerton, no less) the lady at the counter was not only friendly, but she confirmed the story! The little community is right off the Mattaponi River in King and Queen County with gorgeous scenic views of the 3 bridges, wood, steel, and concrete all bundled next to each other. But, you'll find it in an industrial strip with a bright blue exterior, and thank goodness for the USPS sign on the road because you can just drive by.
