Uchbenkah beach resort was part of our excursion package with our cruise company when we sailed in December. I had high hopes for it as the excursion markets this as part of the beautiful Bacalar lagoon. The resort is all inclusive which includes a bbq lunch buffet and alcoholic drinks. The food and service made up for the subpar lagoon ambiance. Uchbenkah is part of the gorgeous Bacalar beach lagoon and when I saw photos of Bacalar, I was hooked. Like I said, I would rate the service, food and drink at a 4 but the lagoon is a hard 2. I like the bbq buffet. They have a generous spread and you're welcome to come back for seconds. We enjoyed everything but I would probably steer clear of the beef. I had a bite of their grilled steak and it had a weird aftertaste however the chicken and chorizo was pretty good. They had a decent selection of cocktails free of charge. Tips are appreciated. To be honest, I was underwhelmed by the beach. It had all the markings of a beachy vibe but the sand was coarse and gritty on the feet. This resort is part of the Bacalar lagoon however the pristine photos of Bacalar in comparison to the waters at this resort are stark opposites. Uchbenkah's waters are not crystal clear and upon entry into the water, it was for the most part murky with a lot of seaweed. My husband said it felt more like a lake versus an unspoiled lagoon. I was hoping for warmer waters but the water temp was cold. We spent a hot minute in the lagoon then circled back to the shaded canopies. The shaded canopies with lounge chairs were one of the few best parts of the beach. We spent most of the time laying out relaxing and it gave us an opportunity to not give a damn about the rest of the world even if it was just for a moment. It was great. As a pro tip, you will need to bring your own pool towels and towel chair clips to Uchbenkah. They don't provide pool towels at this facility so be equipped and prepared. Music played with a majority consisting of corny 80's and 90's American rock covers. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling the music vibe at all, especially if their choice was cover music! I'd rather hear the real deal. When they switched back to Salsa, Bachata and Merengue, I enjoyed that more than the covers but to each's own. The facilities including the bathrooms were relatively clean and when I went in, I saw an attendant mopping and cleaning the floor. When using the facilities they encourage guests to use the garbage cans and not flush toilet paper down the toilets to prevent clogging. We spent about a good hour and a half here before being called by our tour guide to return to our bus back to port Costa Maya. I would say if this is part of your excursion, its not bad but I wouldn't make it a sole go-to as there are plenty of other resorts with clearer water. read more
