The kitchen is huge, halls for hire- the crush hall, theatre (with a well stocked bar), conference rooms. They're making more effort with weddings, hold fayres, events, pantos, burlesque, tributes, amateur and pro theatre (It's definitely worth checking out what is on)- they just held a very busy vegan fair. Staff are fab, facilities are great- it's not super shiny, but they are constantly working to improve it.

"Rooms", though, may be a little broad; we're really talking about a range of genuine halls and suites available for weddings and wedding receptions, conferences, meetings, exhibitions and other social activities. They've even been known to hold the odd inquest. In appearance, they are very 'town hall', all a bit brass and velvet, although the formal decor must carry an attraction, especially judging by the amount of wedding guests you see milling around outside on Saturday evenings (and they're just the smokers). Versatility is the watch-word, with the venue able to cater for both a range of numbers and a range of food needs, from buffets to literal banquets. The venue has its own catering team. Menus and rates are available on the site's comprehensive website.

Looking around at the places in the city, I wanted to have a Launch event for #BrumHour at a creative and fresh venue. The owner, Chandeep has been a great champion of BrumHour, so it felt right that the venue would be the best host. I went down to The Space for the first time at the start of August 2014 and the three rooms vary a lot in size. However, they are all painted a brilliant white with high ceilings and huge windows to let a lot of natural light in. The main room is the carter room and can host around 50 people. When I came to host my event at the start of February 2015, I had 30 people and 5 tables with creative businesses from around Birmingham to share their project work on them. Chandeep was very clear about pricing, and timescales and this gave me a huge confidence boost that everything would run pretty smoothly. I hired the venue for 4 hours and used it for a 2 hour event including setup and going live. It can be used as a dance and drama rehearsal space, a creative gallery, a small theatre room or even a board room! Check out the website for more photos.

I am a really fussy bu**** and like things just so. I like businesses that go the extra mile. I like people who anticipate what will make my life easier. The Space scored massively on all these counts. So, we needed a small meeting room away from our busy office to strategize and plan. All our usual meeting options where full, other venues either couldn't be bothered responding or were to pricey or not quite right. Normally a local coffee shop or similar could fit the bill, but not for this kind of meeting. I knew of The Space through Twitter, as another Jewellery Quarter business, so I dropped them a line. I quick response confirmed everything I needed to know and prices where very competitive. Booking was super easy. We all arrived to be greeted by the helpful and friendly owner (I think) and shown around. Our room was perfect. Tea and coffee and biscuits provided, self serve. The tea mugs were neatly arranged, the tea spoons were ready in clean water, water jug and glasses all arranged on the table, the heater was on, the chairs and tables just right. What this attention to details means is that we could simply relax and focus on the business of the day. It was a great meeting and the venue and service received went at least some way towards allowing that to happen. Worth noting that although The Space is kinda in the middle of an industrial estate it's also very close to the bus routes on Great Hampton St, the JQ station and maybe 5-6 minutes walk from Snow Hill. You can also grab a nice lunch at the equally excellent The Lord Clifden if you need to, tho the venue does do meeting catering upon request. Highly recommended all 'round!

The long driveway is impressive and passes right by some of the golf course holes so you can cruise on by and watch. The hotel is vast with plenty of function rooms, a bar, and cosy little rooms that are off the main corridors. This hotel was once a private house complete with servants, and you can picture some of the rooms being living areas etc. The grounds are beautiful and there are plenty of photo opportunities if you happen to have your wedding here. I came here to celebrate a wedding anniversary, and we had a private function room booked for about 30 of us. We pre ordered out food and a three course meal with wine on the table was only £20 - awesome! The food was ok - duck terrine to start, roast lamb with Yorkshire pudding and white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake. For some reason the cheesecake wasn't doing it for me, so I asked for the cheeseboard instead - a good move which went down well with a glass of red. The staff really looked after us, making sure we had everything we needed. Would I return again - yes I would!

Afternoon tea was very poor today. We have had many afternoon teas at Moore hall over the years,…read morespa days and overnight stays. I am sad to say that today was the last time we will be going to Moore hall. I have food allergies, not choices but real medical allergies. My first afternoon tea was handed to me ( I booked about 5 weeks in advance and stated my allergies clearly) it wasn't gluten free. I asked was she sure and she went back to check and apologised for giving me the wrong one. If I had eaten any of it I would have ended up in hospital. One of the sandwiches looked like it had pickle, I asked what was in it, the sandwich was taken away and brought back and told it was fig. I asked for a list of ingredients, the woman told me that I could eat it but I was too nervous to eat something without knowing exactly what was in it. She just wouldn't give me a list of ingredients. In the end the sandwich was just taken off me with nothing to replace it. Not a great start. About an hour in I asked could we have our prosecco....we also waited some time for milk and had to ask for it also. We had no apology for any of this at all. The woman serving us was frosty if I'm honest. I did explain to her that it wasn't just that I didn't like these food items that I had a genuine allergy. We moved into a side room in the bar area and had a bottle of prosecco (£36) we were settled in girls day having a lovely catch up. Barman comes in and says "I'm not going to throw you out, but I need a room for 15 people." It's a public space. We spent a lot of money £120 approx for afternoon tea, evening meal £80 and drinks £100. We will be looking for a new venue for our next get together that will look after us better. Such a shame we've always enjoyed ourselves on previous visits.
