Some meals stay with you forever, and this was one of them…read more The food here was, without question, some of the best I've ever had. The foie gras was absolutely unforgettable--rich, delicate, and simply to die for. The sangria was equally exceptional, fresh, balanced, and dangerously delicious. But what makes this place truly special is something that can't be captured on a menu. The atmosphere, the warmth, the way time seems to slow down... words simply can't do it justice. If you're visiting Barcelona, don't just come here for dinner. Come here to fall in love with the food, the city, the moment, or maybe even someone sitting across the table. An experience I'll never forget.

Well, the restaurant was cute and cozy with a great ambiance. With luck on our side, we found two seats at the bar and quickly ordered drinks. We ordered a pitcher of the sangria (because why not?). The sangria was delicious, refreshing, and made to order. It was definitely more authentic than what we're getting in America. We ordered the patatas bravas, tempura asparagus, the octopus, and the steak. It all came out as it became available. We couldn't decide what our favorite was, to be honest. We ordered an ice cream sandwich for dessert and quickly requested our bill. We didn't want to hold the staff up as we noticed they were cleaning the establishment and people were finishing up. Overall, what a great experience for our first meal in Barcelona! Cute and hidden gem.

As the saying goes, when in Spain,…read more..... On my recent trip to Sitges, I was looking to have some authentic local food. Philippe, the manager of my hotel, straightaway recommended Komokieras and rang to make me a reservation - I'm glad he did because it did get really busy in the restaurant. I betrayed my lack of knowledge about local cultural customs by asking for a table at 7. Philippe gave me a sad look and told me that that's very early for dinner in Spain and that the authentic restaurants opened much later. So, I settled for a table at 8.30. Komokieras serves Catalan food and as promised, the clientele were locals rather than the international throngs surrounding the 'international restaurants. However, I was relieved to see menus printed in 4 languages - it was also interesting to learn new words by comparing the Spanisg to English and French. I was offered a free aperitif of cava. Although I don't drink, I didn't want to offend my hosts and politely sipped on it all evening alongside my freshly squeezed orange juice. I also got some lovely mild olives and warm bread as freebies. I was sitted in the nice covered verandah part of the restaurant, lovely with a cool evening breeze though the only slight problem was that some of the diners were smoking in that area. One thing I did pick up in Spain was how many people smoke. As my review started, when in Spain,...... So I went for 3 Catalan specialities - veal sweetbreads, suckling pig and apple bunyols (fritters) I do enjoy sweetbreads and I think I've eaten a whole host of different glands. However, this was the real thing - testicles! They were given a wonderful charred crust and served with a line of blasamic vinegar and bread with a tomato topping. I loved the creamy texture of the sweetbreads. The suckling pig was a little more boney than expected - I had to dig into some of my latent surgical skills to dissect some of the meat but it was plentiful. The pork was succulent but still falvoursome despite the young age of the pig. It came with mash that was a little dry buty lovely grilled courgette. The apple bunyols were quite light and served with coconut ice cream. Good end to the meal. I left, happily fed and satisfied that I'd tried some Catalan food on my travels.

Traditional Catalan comfort cuisine in Sant Sadurní , the heart of Cavas country (the preferred…read moresparkling wine of Spain). This charming family style restaurant is located in the center of the town and a must stop when you make a trip to Cava country. Here you can taste the best dishes of traditional Catalan cuisine, all accompanied by the great wines and cavas from Canals & Munné . We took the train from Barcelona and met up with our friend César who lived literally down the street . He reserved a table for us and took the reins on ordering and he did not hold back. We got to try a variety of dishes. Upon entering a light whiff of smoke permeates the air as just about the entire menu is cooked using a wood burning grill. We started with the BBQ Calçots in remesco sauce. Calçots , similar to spring onions, leeks, or scallions., are a Catalan delicacy only grown in the Southern Catalonia region from January to March. Char-grilled on a barbecue until the outside leaves are blackened and the inside is soft. The result is slightly smoky and tender green stalk with a very mild herbaceous flavor. Dipped in remesco sauce, it's an excellent accompaniment with a glass of Cava. Iberian Ham with pa amb tomàquet (bread rubbed with tomato and garlic). The ham with a unique aromatic combination of sweetness, nuttiness, and earthiness is fantastic on its own but when rested against the pa amb tomàquet, it's the definitive Catalan comfort food. Another traditional Catalan dish is snails a la llauna, where the snails are cooked in a metal roasting tray on a charcoal grill then dressed with salt and pepper, olive oil and oregano, and then served with an allioli dipping sauce. As a huge fan of escargot, I am no stranger to snails. Here the snails have a mild earthy flavor. Texture is tender with a slight chewiness. The grill added a delightful smokiness. Dipped in allioli it is also another perfect companion with Cava. For main course, I had the Grilled Octopus. Grilled with salt and pepper then drizzled with Spanish olive oil. Besides, Japanese, I can't think of any other cuisine that makes better octopus than Spanish. Not even Hawaiian. Firm yet so tender and the Spanish olive oil added a wonderful velvety mouthfeel that lets each morsel gently slide down your throat. I had a few bites of my friend's Grilled Rabbitt. Very lean with a nice smoky flavor, but it was a bit too simple and dry for my taste. Could've used some fats like olive oil. My friend who had the pork sausages with pinto beans raved about it. He said the sausages were juicy with a nice fennel flavor. The service was excellent and the atmosphere vibed of a country family restaurant with traditional delicious food. We can't wait to come back! Happy Eating!!
