If I'm not mistaken, this store (at So Shore) was closed for awhile. I originally thought it was due to thefts but perhaps it was remodeling? It is quite large inside, reminds me of Macys. For the first time, I ordered online and chose store pickup. For some reason, companies just don't get that not everyone has or wants a smart phone. Since that's what was required to let them know one was on the way, one was there and the purchase serial #, bleah. I asked to speak to the manager to let her know the policy was not wise nor attractive to those of us without a smart phone. She came up within a few minutes. Her response was lukewarm but not rude. She went on to give me my purchase (I had to show an I.D., not a prob, and I had written down the purchase #). She then took me to the manufacturer's in-store display (I wanted to see how close the new version matched the old; not perfectly but within acceptable parameters). Finally, she suggested another brand with a similar product, which was professional and much appreciated. That was exceptional customer service. Honestly, I am not likely to buy from this retailer again, at least not online. Most likely, will start at Sephora and then consider my options. read more

I still think about this till this day bc it was so mindless. I went in to get my favorite lip oil and sunblock and I checked out and left. When I got to the car I realized my lip oil was already opened. So I went back in told the first employee I saw that I had just bought this but didn't realize it was opened can I just grab a new one? She said yea just bring it up to the register. So I go try to find an u opened one which I finally did after going thru the bottom drawers and I go to the register. I tell the girl she does the whole computer thing and then she goes so you owe $4.32 I was like what r u talking about? I literally just bought this and it was opened and I'm exchanging it for the same exact thing. She was looking at me like I wasn't talking English or something and I could see her brain trying to justify it..... I was like how dim is that bulb. So good thing there was a manager there, I was like hey ur the manager right, I just bought this didn't realize it was opened and now just exchanging it for a new one, we cool?? He said yea. But that girl was real weird. Like what kind of parents didn't teach this girl any thinking skills?? I still think of that situation to this day and feel bad there are people so mindless like that. My one star rating is not for the service I received at the salon today ( it was amazing) but for the manager! A little friendliness and a smile would go along way. Her attitude at my check out totally soured me on this store. She was rude and condescending towards me as I was trying to leave a tip for my ear piercer. I will not be returning despite being very pleased with my ear piercing. Jennifer did a great job and was super friendly. She took the time to really make sure I had the right size earrings and that the placement was best for my ears. Not a fan of going to Ulta but sometimes it's needed when some beauty essentials can only be found here. This location is the closest to me and I usually try to quickly drop in, get the items I need, and then purchase. I've been to this location so many times and I rarely ever get greeted. But my most recent visit was the first time that I was greeted and asked if I needed help. Not by one person, but literally eight employees in the span of me being in the store for 15 minutes. Not sure if I felt like that was good customer service or were they keeping an eye that I could possibly steal?? I was in the shampoo section where it was all big bottles. Not sure what I can steal. Hmmm I asked for a recommendation from the third employee and it seemed like it was her ultimate regret asking if I needed help. Even through her mask I could vibe the irritation from her within five minutes. I let her know that I'll just continue to browse on my own. When I was lining up to pay, there was only one person at the register.. there were eight employees walking around the floor. Why aren't they helping the only person at the cashier? read more

My (new) favorite perfume was not available at Sephora but I'm glad they have it in stock here at Ulta. Also, for a while, Ulta barely had perfume testers so it's nice that they're finally on display. Anyway, my indecisiveness kicked in and suddenly wanted to return/repurchase items. Well, this review is for appointment experience, I had booked a hair style service appointment more than 3 months ago. The service was scheduled for Nov. 4. I needed a simple curls for style; as I was in Oakland for a wedding and I was one of the bridesmaids. So it was very important that I booked this hair appointment at a certain time to be able to meet with the bride, and continue with the things that she had in schedule. Anyhow; two days later I get a notification that there was a change in my appointment, I logged in and they had pushed my appointment for a later time- be mindful I had gotten the earliest appointment available 10:15 to be able to get my hair done, go back to the hotel, get my make up done, get ready and go meet the bride by no later than 2pm. Now this new appointment was for a later time and it was going to push everything back an hour- so I canceled! Luckily my makeup artist saved me, she was kind enough to help me out with my hair. But this schedule changes without commuting with the client prior to making final decisions is not ok, because they are not taking in consideration what other things the client has planned for the day and those changes create stress- for sure. This was going to be my first time receiving services from the salon, but lesson learned- I will not be scheduling salon services with Ulta- due to this appointment experience. On top of that another bridesmaid told me that another Ulta location had canceled her appointment last minute so she ended up having to figure her hair on her own. To be honest, I'm always apprehensive about going to ulta because I don't love being stared at while I shop. I'm not the girliest girl but that doesn't mean I don't like makeup, and I tend to feel judged when I go. Sometimes I show up in my casual baggy clothes because I'm out doing errands and idk these people assume I'm going to steal or something because they follow me around. We shouldn't have to show up in full glam to be respected. I also want to add that the last time I was there, the employee at the register was super rude. Not sure why they continue to offer curbside pick up if no one ever pays attention to the hand held/tablet that notifies when a customer arrives. On two occasions I've used curbside as an option, checked in, and have been left waiting 15+ minutes. First time this happened I called inside the store and told them I was waiting to which they apologized and brought out my order. This time I just walked in after 15 minutes to fine 2 employees standing on their phone, 1 customer in the store, and the manager behind the counter. I walked up to pick up line and mentioned I had checked in for curbside she then looked outside and apologized as if they were so busy. Just remove the option overall. read more

Terrible service- I was waiting in line longer than usual because the lady in front of me was needing extra help and there was only one cashier. Eventually another staff member showed up but turned her back on me. The cashier then asked her to pls help out. That staff person then walked up to a register, looked at me and said "um the line is over there", pointing to the opposite side of where I was standing for at least 10 minutes already (and there was no one else in line!). I went in store to get help with an online order that was packaged incorrectly, and the store manager refused to assist with my return/exchange. She directed me to call the help line because there was nothing she could do without "messing up inventory," which I did, and I was told to return it in store. The store manager was very rude when I explained what I was told on the phone, and I could hear her muttering under her breath as I left the store. She did not apologize for the inconvenience or the mistake that happened on their end in packing my order. I have to agree with the other reviews calling out Phavia as rude. Every time I see that she's cashiering I just leave and wait to get my items in Emeryville whenever I'm in the area or I just order online. She gave me such a hard time the last time I was checking out and actually argued with me after she kept mishearing my phone number and blaming me for getting it wrong. When she couldn't "find" it, she tried opening an account for me even though I kept repeating that I had an account and got defensive when I kept correcting her on my phone number and name. I spend quite a bit of money here, it's the convenience of being able to pick up something I need or close to what I need. Is it my favorite store? No. Sometimes, I just need something and it's right there. I'm usually in and out in no more than 15 minutes. I know what I want, and I've never asked questions or bother anyone there. However, I feel that this store have the worst customer service and staff. I strongly believe that the way you dress and your skin color play a huge part in whether or not they will give you respect and provide you with good service. They're real nice when you're made up, dressed up, and or wearing an expensive bag. But if you come in looking a little out of sorts after a day of moving your house around, they suddenly have an attitude towards you. I've been both of those and could really see a difference in their overall respect for me...or lack there of. The staff here are very snobby and obnoxious. They don't even want to ring you up; there could be 2-3 of them behind the counter and you would have to wait to be assisted. While they chat amongst themselves. They have this an air of arrogance about them, like they're annoyed that you would want to purchase or exchange an item. Let's be real here, when their testers weren't available because of Covid, sometimes you get the wrong color for something, and you need to return it for another color. One girl literally slapped the receipt on the counter as if it was such a nuisance for her to exchange my item; "sign" she said. Then snatched it back from me. I actually spent more money in addition to the exchange. Also, I don't know why they have their staff walk around the store and follow people around asking, "are you finding everything ok?" for. I guess they think it's loss prevention, or that because my hair is messy today that I must be here to steal. Theft happens, I get it, it's a real pain in the ass. But, don't profile your customers. And a handful of sections in the store are messy, instead of irritating the crap out of me, wasting time, and not making good use of your payroll, have them clean and organize. Oh, Ulta. For once I wish you would give stellar service with all of the great products your carry. I found this serum online with great reviews and was happy Ulta carried this serum. I had a screenshot of the product in my phone and went in on my lunch to go purchase it. I found a girl in the Benefit Cosmetics section. Our exchange basically went like this: "Excuse me- Hi I'm looking for the Mary Jane CBD Glow serum. Here let me pull up the photo." Employee with the biggest stink face "The WHAT SERUM?" "It's the name of the brand, here's the photo." *shows photo* "I'VE NEVER SEEN THIS! WE DON'T CARRY IT." I pointed that it was in the store and available for pick-up IN ALAMEDA. "MHMMMMM-No. I don't think we have it." I decide to go to the other girl nearby because this one was not going to look for it or try to find someone who can find it. She was in total disbelief that they carried it despite carrying several skincare items in different brands with cannabis and sativa as the primary ingredient. I found the girl with the Benefit Cosmetics apron and asked her. Same initial reaction of the "HUH? WHAT." "No, I've NEVER seen it." I had to show her my phone that it was available and in store. "REALLY? HERE?" No, not here. I decided to walk into the Ulta with a made up product they did not carry and waste their time and my own. I was already annoyed that everyone was in disbelief like I walked in with a unicorn and asked her to find it. She darts towards the drugstore (non-prestige section) and right before the Morphe section, I recognized Skye. Anytime I've come into Ulta, Skye has always been an amazing and helpful employee. She either answers my questions or finds an answer for me with a smile. She's always upbeat and clearly loves where she works. Skye took a quick glance at the screenshot on my phone and lead me straight to where this was. I grabbed the last two bottles and stood in line. A girl behind me asked what I had in my hand and I ended up giving her one of the bottles after she showed interest here. Thank you Skye for being the only reason to come to Ulta versus just sitting at home and doing my online shopping online. I can totally understand why Ulta in the Alameda South Shore Center gets so many bad reviews about the staff. One extremely bad apple can ruin it for the rest of the staff. Namely, Jessica Perez (store manager). I asked if they had bar shampoo, and was told that "we sell cosmetics, our store has never carried bar soap". I then asked OK can you just point me in the direction of the shampoo? Fortunately, there was a helpful staff gentleman that said, "yes of course we have shampoo bars" and helped me select the one I was looking for. On my way to the cashier I showed Jessica the bar soap. Her colleague helped me find, and explained to her that, "yes in fact you do carry bar soap". She became extremely defensive and told me I was being rude and condescending. I asked to speak with her store manager, and she said "I am the store manager" I told her, "I find it extremely ironic that the store manager would have no idea what the store actually sells". Instead of taking healthy criticism from a paying customer, she wanted to continue her c argument based on her being right, and me being wrong. BTW, when I first entered the store, I asked if I could put my bag down at the counter, (I don't want staff to feel nervous about a guy shopping with a workout bag in hand) Jessica responded, "we will not be responsible for anything that happens to your items, so no we will not". Only a couple months ago the staff politely said yes, of course we'd keep it here behind the counter for you while you shop. My wife spend hundreds of dollars at Ulta. She nor I will no longer go there as long as Ulta continues to ignore serious issues, by placing unfriendly, angry, aggressive people as store managers! Wow. I had an unusual situation where a package to an Ulta customer inadvertently got addressed to me. So when I realized that it was an Ulta order that was supposed to go to someone else, I took it to the local Ulta to explain, thinking they might want to know that an Ulta package was waylaid. The woman behind the counter was *unbelievably* rude. She tried to get me to take it to the post office (which makes no sense, since it wasn't misdelivered, it was misaddressed) and then to get me to call Ulta online customer service. Why on earth would I do that when I had nothing to do with this order? Why wouldn't an Ulta store be willing to call Ulta online? I don't necessarily care that the store wasn't willing to call their online counterpart. However, out of all the ways to handle this (a member of the public trying to be helpful) what the customer service team at this store chose to do was definitely not it -- the dismissiveness and attitude was unreal. I will never be a customer here knowing this is how they speak to people. I could easily have become a customer for life if they had bothered to be polite. The package is now in the trash. This location has lived up to its 0 to 1 star ratings this week with rude and unacceptable service. Also, if your associates are on some type of commission or incentive plan for opening accounts, you need to reevaluate your credit card offer procedures immediately. Why would you attempt to try & open an account and when the customer tells you they don't have their ID with them, you ask if they have a picture of their ID on their cellphone. What in the data breach are you thinking?? Who is training anyone to think something credit impacting would be handled this way? This is not acceptable behavior from a company wanting MY business. From the previous reviews and my receipt, looks like the same rude person is at the register. Your best bet at this point is mandatory training on handling a customer's personal information, immediately followed by intense customer service training. (It wouldn't hurt to throw in some secret shoppers to see if anyone is listening) If this store is not already lagging, bad customer service will be one of the things that will eventually make it an underperforming location and more likely to close. Your apologies on Yelp without action are useless to my wallet and hard earned $. Hi Ulta Beauty Alameda, I dropped in yesterday to look at spend some money because all of my makeup stuff is past expiration date due to lockdowns and what not. I was greeted when I entered the store and helped out by an associate with a question I had; which was cool. However, there was a couple of moments where I felt like I was being racially profiled by the security guard and I didn't really like that. Since I didn't feel comfortable to spend money in that environment, I left and as I was leaving the energy I was feeling was confirmed. Security guard standing by the door like an aggressive chihuahua and doesn't even greet you bye but makes sure to stare you down. Now, I'm glad I didn't spend any money in there and wish I would've read the comments before I walked in because I know I'm not the only one that experienced something like that at this Alameda store. When I got in the car I told my mom about what just happened and she said the man made eye contact with her from Outside that made her uncomfortable too; so atp I knew I wasn't tripping. So, it's been a while. I went back in and spoke with Bobby (store manager) and Brenden (salon manager) just after this debacle. They expressed their deepest apologies and agreed they were also mortified by the end results of not one, but two salon appointments. They issued me a full refund and also offered my next 3 salon appointments with Brenden or their top stylist free of charge, whatever I want. Super nice of them but I've yet to return 1) because half my hair was hacked off and has needed time to grow back 2) because I'm still super nervous about letting anyone at Ulta touch my hair again. Rude employees. Called to check if a pick up order was ready. The employee put me on hold few a few minutes and came back saying it was ready. When I arrived the order wasn't ready (which is fine since I understand I placed the order later in the day) but the lady in the front couldn't find the order, said she was the one I talked to on the phone and said that she thought I had an email confirmation which is why she said it was ready. I get it's the end of the day and the order needs to go through the system, but If the order wasn't ready just say so ahead of time and ditch the attitude. read more

This location is awful. The shelves are usually nearly empty and the staff is useless. I had the most unpleasant and embarrassing experience I've ever had as a shopper at this location. I stopped in to grab a few items and was immediately profiled by security. The security guard followed me through the store the entire time I was there. It was so blatant and strange that I asked the guard if there was a problem. She laughed and kept following me; completely ignoring the other twenty or so customers in the store as if she was convinced I was going to attempt to shoplift and the other customers were not. I then asked to speak to a manager and was told "she's just doing her job." September 18, 2021 To the ULTA Store @ South Shore, Alameda, I was in your Alameda South Shore Store between 1830 and 1900 hours. ( Otis and Park Street, Alameda, CA 94501) I was told by a sales associate that I had to give a telephone number in order to get a refund if I wanted to return the product in the future. I did not see a posting of this policy. I inquired if I had the receipt if that was adequate to make the return and I was told NO. I had to give the telephone number or the item could not be returned. Not a fan of giving out my personal information, I was willing to show ID to make a credit card purchase but why must I give my telephone number when I was making a purchase? I left the store without the item and went to Sephora/Khol's and had a much happier experience. I was not planning on making a return and rarely return items. It was a parfum. With regrets for an unfortunate encounter. From the California Consumer Protection Laws: If a store has no posted policy, California law provides that in most cases, as long as you have your receipt, you are entitled to full refund or equal exchange within 7 days of purchase. I will not shop here ever again, I was followed by a female employee, I believe that started with an I. I just wanted to buy perfume for my wife, and was followed. I did not wear anything that assumed I was a thief or up to no good. I am an engineer with a master's degree and a Bay Area native, I have never in my life felt racially profiled and harassed till this day. I even over her say to someone that's on their staff "follow that black man", I didn't even do anything wrong. I felt so disgusted with their behavior that I just left the store. I literally made a yelp account to write this review. I have so many bad experiences at this ulta, I do a pick-up 9/10 times to avoid interacting with the employees there. Not only are they rude, they are not helpful at all. Even getting a pick-up is like pulling teeth. The reason I stopped shopping there was because of an experience I had about a month ago. I forgot to do a pick-up and decided to come in for the summer deals in June. There's a girl who works the front desk with long nails that seems to only speak in a monotone voice. I asked her if they had a foundation in stock because I couldn't find it on the floor and she waved me off toward the shelf behind MAC. The guy coworker was nice enough to walk me over when he saw his sloppy coworker wasn't able to take two steps to walk me over. I thanked him while he head back to help customers. I stopped a girl walking the floor to see if she could color match me and she said she would send someone over. Thirty-two minutes later when I saw nobody was coming, I approached somebody else. She did not work there and just happened to be a customer in all black. Her name started with an "S" and she stepped away from shopping to help color match me because she could see nobody was helping me. I told her she should apply there because she was so knowledgeable. She told me she's applied to Ulta so many times but nobody has called her. I saw her approach a manager after helping me to inquire about a job. She immediately turned her away with a stern "we don't have openings anymore." Besides the gentleman who stepped in to help me, it doesn't seem like anybody there wants to do a customer service job or be helpful in beauty products. I wish they would hire people passionate about cosmetics. I had a pick-up a week before that experience in which the same sloppy worker told me to get my ID ready before greeting me. "I have my ID already." "okay." She helped three more people, chatted with her coworkers, then gave my bag to me. No thank you, nothing. My suggestion for Ulta Alameda is to replace the entire staff (besides MAC and the guy). We need nicer people facing the customers. read more

I asked one of the employees to help me shade match the foundation and instead received no help at all and was told that it is difficult to match foundation to my skin tone. The employee told me that I should help myself and that she can't help me. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the employee's name. I then asked a different employee who was more than happy to help me out with more than just matching the foundation to my skin tone. The employee helped me with my foundation, concealer, setting powder, and brushes. She then proceeded to patiently help me out with my coupon and all my transactions. THANK YOU IZZY!!!
