Let's be honest, I only go here because of its convenient location next to where I study. For this…read morereason I regard it more as a canteen than a cafe and I use it as a place to get away from the reading rooms or rather as a pit-stop in between classes to fill my thermos with tea... which I then take away to enjoy somewhere else! The student filter coffee can be moody- as in its flavour seems to change every day and you're never too sure whether to get it here or run upstairs to one of the vending machines instead... Adding heaps of milk usually works wonders though. So while the place is not all that classy and you expect the same dry chicken roulade to be waiting for you every day, the food is in fact edible on those odd days! The other day I even dare say the lunch was mouth-wateringly good (lemon-chicken in a curry sauce with buckwheat and green salad, yum!). The soup of the day is great _every time_, the pasta not bad either with lots of sauces to choose from, sandwiches vary and while I find the baguettes to be dry and less appetising the round whole wheat sandwiches with ham and cheese are quite tasty. The chocolate pancake is a nice treat, though I'm not the biggest fan of the chicken curry pancake option. The trick is to start lining up for the lunch which starts at 12noon to get it as fresh as possible. Earlier around 10am your best best option would be the hard boiled egg salad. A double portion of this worth 6 zl will keep you full at least for a while. Geesh, I spend way too much time in this place!

The building itself is sort of hidden between factory buildings, which makes it all the more cooler. The morning we were here it seemed to be a popular place for group-meetups. We had pancakes and a breakfast menu with egg, sausage, cheese, and some veggies, delivered with ketchup and mustard, and a some bread with butter. All in all it was good but nothing surprising. You get what you pay for, but in my opinion you can easily whip this up yourself at home. So the place itself is very refreshing, but the actual food nothing too inventive. Will we be back? Maybe if we're around (not likely) but it's not really worth a detour.

The new owners have subtly altered a few things -- the acoustics are a lot less abrasive since they installed acoustic panels on the ceiling, for example. This place pays great attention to detail in their food as well. Alarmingly good cakes and pies vary depending on the whim of their creator, but high quality is consistent. A place for brunch or lunch or occasional night events, a good place to work, and nice for summer enjoyment? Who knows, since it's not summer yet. Perhaps every place is more suited for enjoyment in the summer. Very close to the Schindler factory, it's a good place to taste the new young productive style south of the river.
