Man, this is just as good as it gets. I love how they have specialized in one thing, and then delivered masterfully. There is another one restaurant in Folsom that I know has good ramen, but it is just one thing amongst many in the menu. You can't go wrong with the classics, but even other variations work perfectly. The ramen fits great during the colder months but still are worth having them during warmer days. Besides a good bowl of Ramen. I came here this time to witness and be part of an experience like no other. I can't believe they brought in two Master Sushi Chefs to demonstrate the highly sought after giant tuna carving experience. And being able to take part in this private dinner party was not only an experience of a life time but being able to watch these chefs break down a giant bluefin and served it to us fresh was Magical. Umami Ramen is currently the #9 spot on the Top 100 Ramen Spots in California list. That is an amazing accomplishment to be in the Top 10. There are ten different ramen flavors to choose from their menu but I think it is their Black Garlic Tonkotsu that made the Top 100 list for California LoL! (I'm pretty sure others will beg to differ). Love coming here on a cold day. Nothing like a steamy bowl of ramen to warm you up. Service is always wonderful, they provided a small bowl and scissors to cut the noodles for our little one. Love all the anime decor and even the bathroom has manga pages on the wall. Had some delicious savory black garlic ramen and the chashu pork is sooo tender and flavorful. I visited Umami for the first time very recently and the ambience was ok. It looks like a nice cozy spot to take a date or have a meal by yourself. We [me and my wife] were met with kiosks that took our orders ( just 2 bowls and 2 waters with some gyoza) and tbh the workers just seemed like they were just standing there , not really busy , so we decided to not leave a tip at the time but were open to leaving cash towards the end of our meal. A server brought our food and I was disappointed to see the egg in both our bowls wasn't cut, and was hard boiled with a cold center. On top of that, my first bite had an eggshell in it. I didn't think I had to say anything considering that the 2 employees were giving us mean stares the whole time , probably cause they think they deserved a tip. This places only saving grace was the tasty food (besides the egg). $17 for a bowl of simple ramen is pretty crazy though considering they don't even take the time to make the eggs right. When we arrived to this location, I didn't know it had a mart connected to it until we walked it. Ordering was super easy since it was at their kiosk. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach. I visited Umami Ramen on a Sunday afternoon for lunch to celebrate my mom's birthday. We lucked out when we found one open table! The ordering was pretty straightforward - there are two touchscreen kiosks for you to look through the menu and order. We opted to get the geso (fried squid legs), pan-fried gyoza, 2 umami buns (pork cutlet), mazeman (soupless noodles), and black garlic tonkostu. Pro tip: you can ask the kitchen to split your soup ramens when you place your order! My favorite items were definitely the umami buns and the black garlic tonkotsu. The mazeman was good, but very strong on the raw onion. I personally would skip the pan-fried gyoza and the geso, as both were pretty average. The service was great and the restaurant was consistently busy the entire time we were there. They also had an impressive display of Japanese action figures. Ordering was done through a kiosk, which was convenient. We dined in for the first time today and we only have good things to say! This spot is definitely going to be a part of our regular restaurant rotation now. The vibes of Umami Ramen are very similar to the ramen spots that we have experienced in Japan. You order from a kiosk and seating is wherever you'd like as long as the table is clean. Remember to grab your own table number so they know where to find you! They will bring you water but all of the other drinks are self serve. The left of the entrance has the feel of a Japanese convenience store; just ask them to open your bottled stuff! If you are going out for ramen and expecting a waiter and full on service, this is not the place. With this being said, all of the staff is still friendly and willing to answer questions and help you out, of course. As for the food, everything was delicious and you can tell they use quality ingredients. Between the two of us, we ordered the Geso fried appetizer, Spicy Miso Ramen, Tonkatsu Ramen, and extra eggs and black garlic oil. Both of our broths were savory and fragrant, but we agreed the spicy miso broth took the cake. The geso was lightly battered and had great texture. The pork chasu was seasoned perfectly and completely melted in my mouth, and let me say it that their portions are HUUUGE! They are not greedy with the toppings and noodles. Hubs and I each finished about half of our ramen and saved the rest for leftovers. We left full and very satisfied! Everything was perfectly priced and I wish we had discovered this place earlier. It was a first time trying onigiri for me so I wasn't sure what to expect. The rice had a stickiness to it and the tuna was flavorful and not dry at all which I will say I was expecting but it was so good! Lastly, the Oolong Tea to wrap up the whole meal. It was tasty, light and my ideal choice of beverage to wash down a delicious meal. For a first time experience with Umami Ramen, it gets a 10/10 from me. Came here for a late Saturday lunch and there was plenty of parking. This place is legit! Non-food positives - clean restaurant and restrooms, friendly staff, and ordering via a digital kiosk. One of the staff members even offered to change the channel on the side TV since our kids wanted to see what was going on at the far end of the restaurant. Prices are really reasonable as well - $15/bowl. We ordered a regular tonkotsu, a black garlic tonkotsu, and a spicy miso. They were all delicious and very different in flavor. They're doing it right here as just looking at the tonkotsu broth, it's a deep milky white color. Very flavorful and almost a little creamy in texture even though there's no milk.
