The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, the kind of spot that instantly grabs your attention because it's right above the water. The view is stunning and honestly sets such a nice mood. I really wanted to love the food as much as I loved the setting... but it just didn't deliver. Everything tasted like it had been pre-made hours ahead, and I'm not convinced they use many fresh ingredients aside from the salads. The dish I ordered was hands down just salt and oil , no real flavor, nothing fresh or vibrant about it. When I brought the leftovers home and reheated them, even more oil poured out, to the point where it literally turned me off from finishing it. The drinks, though? Delicious. I had the spruce margarita and that was honestly the highlight of the whole meal -- super refreshing and really well-balanced. It was a beautiful summer day and I wanted to find somewhere to eat that was both outside and near water, so Umbrella Bar seemed like a perfect choice. When we arrived the place was maybe half full but we nevertheless managed to snag a quiet table overlooking the water. It was fantastic. For my food, I decided to go with their smash burger and I decided to substitute their Firecracker Fries for my regular fries. The food arrived a little while later, and while I was disappointed that it wasn't hot, I was very happy with the taste and presentation. The burger was exactly what I felt like, and the smashed patty was cooked perfectly. The enormous Firecracker Fries, which were smothered in a meat sauce, cheese, and a zippy mayo, were so, so good. Decadent and delicious. (The cold beer I ordered took the whole meal over the top.) The umbrella bar is situated right by Dows lake lending to a beautiful view of the lake and its surrounding park. On a beautiful summer day, the second floor patio is a great place to relax and grab some drinks and bites. The patio seemed to have panelling so that even in unexpected weather you can enjoy their offerings under the sky. Fish tacos - Crispy fried fish with greens, cream sauce in a soft shell. This was delicious, lots of great texture in the mouth and no flavour too over powering. Overall very good, and would recommend. Chicken Burger - We got the Nashville sauce with the chicken burger and boy was it spicy. I would recommend only if you can tolerate some type of spice, I cannot. Fried chicken was crispy until the last bite, it was drench in sauce. I would try a less spicy sauce next time. The mayo on the side is a nice touch as we dont usually see this in other restos! Since the weather is beautiful this weekend, we went to Umbrella Bar to enjoy their waterfront patio. We arrived at around 2:30 pm, it was packed, so we had to wait around 20 minutes, which wasn't so bad. The waiter was super nice. We ordered their Nashville chicken sandwich, which was really good, but it took around 45 minutes to arrive to our table. Parking is a bit challenging, luckily we found a spot 500 meters away from the restaurant. Overall, it was a delightful experience. read more

I went here after renting some kayaks in the afternoon for a late lunch and it was pretty good! This restaurant had a more broad menu, ranging from burgers, chicken sandwiches, tacos, fish, etc. than Mexi's right beside so we decided to eat here. Food: I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich and got to choose the spice level which was nice. I got the spice level "hot but less hot" and it was perfect, not too spicy but still a little kick. The chicken sandwich was pretty good and was topped with coleslaw and pickles. The chicken was great, big portion, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Unfortunately, the sandwich did not come with fries which would have made it better overall. But instead I ordered a side of fries ($7) to share with two others and it was the perfect amount for three people. I also ordered a mojito and it was good. Ambiance and service: The covered patio is such a cute vibe with lots of plants and a view of Dows Lake. The service was pretty slow and barely checked on, but the staff was friendly. Given that I came here durning the pandemic, I had to order take-out. It was pretty easy and painless. I decided to go for the Umbrella Burger & the Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich. Sitting outside under a tree nearby, we got to eating and it was delicious. I'll start off with the burger, it was your typical juicy American burger with American cheddar, red onion, lettuce and bacon! I loved that the bun was super buttery. Moving on to the highlight of my day was the Fried Chicken Sandwich. This has to be one of my favourite fried chicken sandwiches. It was a simple fried chicken breast on a buttery bun with coleslaw, sauce and pickles. The tacos were run of the mill, would recommend El Camino for tacos specifically. The tuna tartare was really well flavored and the portion of fish was good. Yesterday was our first stop at the Umbrella, even though we landed here from NS in 2000. The location was great, with a very easy, friendly ambiance. We'll not get into the lack of parking. The food was very good (the burgers and nachos were very tasty), though were quite long in appearing. More to the point, our server Alex was a model waitstaff. Went to umbrella with my friends for lunch. Very nice spot with a view, it is the type of place you go when you want to hangout with a couple of friends for lunch and drinks after work. What I loved about this place is they have a great vegetarian menu. I only eat halal and we got the veggie burger, it was the best veggie burger I have ever tried. Ordered a chicken burger and a double cheeseburger and a poutine to share. The poutine is considered a side but it is quite large and can be eaten as a meal. The chicken burger was quite tasty and you get to chose the level of spiciness which I appreciated. The double cheeseburger was also pretty good. Good selection of drinks but very limited selection of food and the menu online is not the same as the menu in the restaurant. I've visited the Umbrella Bar multiple times, and it's always had a calm atmosphere and lots of available tables, which was surprising since it's in such a prime location. Their fries are amazing, and the staff are very friendly. I love the view of Dow's lake, especially during the winter when you can see people skating on the canal. Great spot on the lake for some eats and drinks! I came here on one of the first days that patios opened with a few friends. They don't take reservations at the moment but it was rainy out so it wasn't too busy when we arrived around 19h30. We were seated under a covering that protected us from the rain. We ordered a pitcher of mojito which made about 6 very small drinks. Very tasty but also quite pricey! For food, my partner and I each got the Crispy chicken sandwich with the second spiciest option. The chicken was perfectly crisp and juicy and the bun and toppings were delish! We would get the spiciest option next time since it was pretty mild but we really enjoyed. We went to Umbrella bar for some afternoon drinks yesterday, and had the loveliest experience! First of all, all their Covid-19 measures are A++. I felt super safe! Second, all the staff we encountered were happy and friendly and just plain nice. Third, the menu looks pretty great. They have an abbreviated menu right now because of the pandemic, but it looks like a winner. Next time we go I'm venturing into the land of shrimp rolls. The drinks! I had a half-pint of a sour beer, and an Alerol Spritz (cuz I'm fancy) and my co-drinker had a Sunsplit (yeah, they had Sunsplit in stock!) and a margarita. He said the 'rita was great because it wasn't too sweet, and had a better flavour than the syrupy stuff you can get elsewhere. A nice, tequila-ey beverage. Excellent spot for food and drinks! We love the chicken or bacon mac and cheese despite not usually being a big mac and cheese fan (this is just too good). They are also known for their crispy chicken sandwiches which are delicious and they offer mild and then also Nashville Hot (very spicy) spice levels. Regular and sweet potatoe fries are also delicious but need to be ordered separate from the rest of the food. In terms of veggie options, their broccolini dish and pineapples tofu dish are excellent (even as a non-pineapple lover). They also have delicious sangria and mojitos - but their cocktails are on the pricier side, especially compared to the well priced food. Best aspect of this place is the view, it offers a gorgeous view of Dow's lake and the location itself is excellent! read more

Today was one of the best days to go out and have something to eat. My girlfriend suggested umbrella bar cause it's right by the water and the food is very good. When we got there the host was very nice. She sat us at a table in the middle of the bar so we can see everything. But the bad point is that no waitress approached us. We sat there for about 10 mins and still nothing. Now remember we in the middle of the room so they are all walking right by us and they see that were ready to order. The final straw was that 2 guys came in and sat at the table to the left of us and the waitress walked right by us again and served them. Now usually I get mad but I just let it go my girlfriend was pissed. But I will say this, my girlfriend and I visit alot of types of restaurants. High end, hip spots, dives you name it. And we have never felt so disrespected and over looked in our lives until we came here. Now I was the only black guy in there but I'm hoping it's not cause of that. But I will never go back here again. It's a shame cause it did seem nice but I can't support a place that would treat a nice Christan couple like this. This place is an absolute gem! The hot chicken sandwich is a religious experience, and their cheeseburger is one of the best I've had (they have lots more, but I keep coming back for those two). On top of all that, they have a great selection of drinks, lovely staff, and very timely service. The patio in warmer weather is really lovely with a casual atmosphere and a great view of Dow's Lake.
