The man who was working in the shop took pity on my crap German and of course spoke fluent English. Which was great but it's akin to you being awakened from your momentary illusion that you are indeed not Marlene Dietrich but instead a bumbling fool who's command of English is worse then the German man. Bruised ego aside I got a few boxes of Romeo y Julieta and mumbled to myself as I left, "You may have the superior language ability but I got a bargain because I live in a really expensive country and you don't. Ha! Take that German man."

Inside are tables for 3-4s and outside there is a patio for more people. While relatively small their drinks list had something for everyone, with really good values on Scotch and whiskies. Apparently, many locals drink beers with their cigars. Go figure but, as long as they enjoy it, I'm good. Located next to, or is it part of, the upscale Savoy Hotel. Service was great, really attentive to customers with explanations and suggestions for picking cigars.

Nice selection, if not huge selection, of baked goods, many of which were also vegan. A good hangout for those who struggle with dietary restrictions but still want to enjoy Germans' two favorite foods: bread and ice cream. The owner (presumably also the baker?) was pretty grouchy and weird to me when I inquired about what kinds of flours, etc. (auf deutsch natürlich) but since bakers wake up at like 3 in the morning maybe one shouldn't hold that against her.

This shop has bio/organic ice cream, gluten-free and bio waffle cones cakes and pies as well as coffees, teas and other goodies. The neighborhood is a bit stuffy and the prices are average. Not cheap, but not high considering the product. I would recommend this place to anyone, even if they aren't gluten free. I have only made one trip and tried their chocolate cake. It was a bit on the dry side, but the coffee was good and I am hoping to go back and sample some more goodies. 4 stars for this existing. It would have been 5 if the cake was spectacular. I would say it wasn't obviously gluten-free, but could have been better.

So the secret is out, you can walk into any store and receive free full sized samples of espresso, lattes cappuccinos etc till you can't drink anymore. Dressed quite leisurely (funny T-shirt, hoody and an overcoat). The posh lady at the coffee counter looked me up and down. She frowned. And then asked me whether I was a member, or wanted to become one. She then asked me to show her my membership card. Very surprised I told her that it would be the first time that I had to show her such a card in order to get a free coffee there. That was when she told me: "Well, you know, there is always a first time." (Franka later told me I should have replied: "So, tell me, when will be yours, lady!" I am not that spontaneous, though. And it would have been quite mean.) So I wipped out my wallet and showed her. I DO have a Nespresso machine at home. And I drink Nespresso coffee quite regularly. So I do have a "Membership Card", as well (but you usually don't need that). She then reluctantly served me a sample of the new coffee tastes. Once I was finished I left without a further word. All the while I was standing at the counter there were other people coming and going. She not even once asked anybody to show her a proof of membership. I guess I was dressed not well enough for her taste. (This is Berlin, by the way, I never ever thought you had to dress up here to walk down Friedrichstraße!) Thank you very much, nice lady. You made me feel like a drunken homeless. How sad a feeling. And thanks for the coffee and the perfect service, Nespresso!

They said everyone who'd been there loved the fantastic range of vinos, chiled atmosphere and was impressed by the knowledge exhibited by the owners (as well as the banter - they are such a laugh!). I experienced exactly this, but was particularly taken by how they position their wines. Now I love my wine but am more into drinking it than actually knowing anything about it ;-) so it was refreshing to be able to tell them what sort of 'experience' I was looking for from a wine (relaxing vs. energising, for example) and they were able to tell me which wine was best... AWESOME!!! Be sure sure to pay a visit next time you're in Berlin, and pay particular attention to the artwork used to depict the variety of wines on the wall (as well as the London-themed pencil sharpeners - those are so cool!!!).
