    New England Clam Chowder
    Jenny L.

Went here to dine-in because my dad liked the clam chowder we ordered the first time on Uber Eats. However, our second time trying this place was overall okay. We ordered the New England clam chowder, garlic rib eye steak, and uncle Bo's seafood pasta. Clam chowder - first time from Uber Eats was pretty good, but the second time we ordered for dine-in was salty. Garlic rib eye steak - it was good but not like amazing. Portion was huge. The meat was tender and juicey. The sauce that came with it barely did anything to enhance the flavor and was quite bland. Comes with choice of rice, mashed potatoes, or thick cut fries and steamed assorted vegetables on the side. Uncle Bo's seafood pasta - it was a big plate, but I think this dish was the least favorite above the two. It's a creamy tomato sauce base, and it was very bland. Servers were nice and friendly. Our food came out pretty quick once our order was placed. We got lucky with street parking, but there's paid parking across the street.

Went for happy hour. Great service considering at that time, it appeared there was only 1 server and 1 bartender but full house by end of happy hour. I rate 3 stars, however, because every dish was missing something and if not for happy hour prices, the prices are pricey for what the dish is. The menu descriptions read that the food should have more flavor, but all of us said the food was all bland. Dynamite shrimp ($10.95 happy hour)--totally not what we expected. Extremely creamy. Just shrimp and sauce. Caprese toast bites ($9.95 happy hour)--my favorite item we ordered. Really good on the sweet bread! Kalua pig fried rice ($8.95 happy hour)--kalua pig, rice, some eggs, and green onions. Nothing exciting. Calamari ($10.95 happy hour)--comes with an interesting sweet sour dipping soup. Boca rota ($29.95)--what theyre known for but I dont understand why. It's cheese bread with prime rib strips in the middle. There was no flavor to it at all. Super bland. And the meat was fatty. So overall, rich with the cheese from the bread and the fat from the meat. Needs a marinara sauce or something. Hobos ($14.95)--great ice cream. Must eat together with the fried dough balls. The sauce was useless. This was my 2nd time at Uncle Bos. I remembered after the first time, i recalled it being just okay so didnt have a strong need to return. But so many friends raved about this place and the menu looked yummy so decided to give it another try. But after this 2nd time, I dont think I need to try for a 3rd.

We had a 7:00 pm reservation for a large group and were seated quickly, For groups of 10+, they offer an all-you-can-eat, chef's choice menu. It's a limited menu, which makes total sense since they need to be able to turn out food quickly for large parties. Because of that, we didn't get to try some dishes we were hoping for, like the taro beignets or the pan roast. They brought out two of each dish for our table, and everything came out very quickly. Also notable, there is a 2.5 hr time limit. Although the menu states "no substitutions," they were very accommodating of dietary restrictions in our group. Several people couldn't eat pork, and the kitchen adjusted without issue. For example, the Bo's Big Nachos normally includes ham and kalua pig, but they omitted the pork and replaced it with vegetables. We were served pupu-style plates with forks and knives, and our server also brought chopsticks for the table. One thing to note: table space is limited, so it can feel crowded once multiple dishes arrive. I'd recommend everyone grabbing a serving before the next dish comes out so empty plates can be cleared and new food can be set down smoothly. Most of the dishes were very rich, creamy, and extremely filling. Everything was well-seasoned and cooked nicely. Some of the food combinations are a bit unconventional (not necessarily a bad thing), but it did raise a few eyebrows at the table. Examples included wonton chips paired with a veggie medley and garlic cheesy bread served with ribeye and a cream sauce. Interesting flavor pairings, just unexpected for some. We also ordered drinks -- the Malaysian Mule and the Molokaʻi Mule -- and both were delicious. The Malaysian Mule had a great ginger kick, while the Molokaʻi Mule was nicely balanced with sweet coconut. Would definitely order both again. The exterior of the building is a bit misleading; it looks small from the outside but can actually accommodate plenty of large groups inside. The decor is avant garde and lighting by the entrance is bright but in the back party room it's more dim. Parking is probably the biggest challenge. There's paid parking across the street, or you can try street parking in the surrounding residential area, but be prepared for a bit of a walk.

I haven't been home since 2017 and was glad this establishment was still here. We walked over and came in without a reservation. We were quickly seated . There were 4 large groups and the service was excellent. We ordered 4 items and each dish was amazing in flavors. Service was 10 out of 10 and the staff worked as a team. If you haven't been there, go in and enjoy a cocktail and your meal!

Great place for pupu's (poke, nachos, Kalua pig sliders, ceviche, Asian chicken salads, soups, pizzas, and more) Entrees from meatloaf, fresh catch, pastas, fish dishes, meat options and more. We had the spinach artichoke dip delicious, Kalua pig sliders, good, meatloaf is a savory dish with gravy and smashed potatoes, chicken wings, bi bim bop fresh and garlic shrimp fresh and delicious. Good service, fun casual atmosphere, great place to hang out!

I have tried Uncle Bo's in Haleiwa and while I didn't love the ambiance there, I still thought the food was absolutely delicious! So when my family was visiting recently I took them to try this location and everyone loved it, plus the ambiance is very cute and cozy! We basically got every appetizer they had and it was all so yummy and we were pretty much full by then, but then we received a complimentary bread pudding for dessert and we were so impressed, that dish is an absolute must!!! Wow! Great service and would definitely go back. Also, there is a big parking lot is across the street and like a couple dollars, you can scan the QR code and pay on your phone, very easy.

Wish I knew who Uncle Bo so I could shake his hand or give him a fist bump. Food, service and everything! We met a friend for pau hana (happy hour for all the mainlanders) and to catch up from our last trip. We decided to order a bunch of pup's (shareable platters) so we could experience the variety. Everything from the firecracker shrimp, boca rota, bread and clams were all top notch! Each dish the flavor just popped out danced around my mouth. The drinks were also great! While we never got her name, our waitress "Jonathan" (inside joke), with all the vibrant tattoos, aloha spirit and bubbly personality made us feel like the only ones there. All the waiters and waitresses share tips so that's why our ticket said Jonathan on it. Come for lunch/dinner/whatever. This place is sure to please! It's a local spot and great for friends or even solo. Uncle Bo's is located at the tail end of Ala Wai Canal in Kapahulu and has a very unassuming sign out front so keep your eyes peeled. Parking is available across the street. Come here and have a great time!

Second time here and it did not disappoint! Food was great and comes in great portions. I'm so glad we mainly ordered pupus because we got full off of that! Service was quick and staff is nice. Very clean and relaxing environment to be in with a lively scene. Definitely will be back next time I'm in Oahu.

    Six 6 Little Piggies

We loved our experience last night, got us right in, was recommended the fish by some friends and I was not disappointed! One of the best fish dishes I've tasted. Service was on par, and the atmosphere was good vibes. Would recommend!

Brahhhh not sure why it took soooooooo long for me to come back here, but I'm glad we came tonight! We went for happy hour and order all but two items from the puppy menu...lol! Everything was so Ono and we already can't wait to come back again! Service was amazing and the place is super clean. Mahalo to all the staff!

I've always heard that the food here was good and finally got to try it! This place did not disappoint. Everything we ordered was delicious! The Thai clam was flavorful, the seafood catch had a variety of seafood and was delicious! The rib eye was very tender and the fries were nice and crispy. Loved every dish. The servers were friendly and all the customers were having a great time. Wish it was a bit lighter in the restaurant. Will be back! The restaurant was very spacious too!

Six Little Piggies - dry, chewy, overcooked meat.

Look, if you are a young person looking for huge plates of food, lots of shooters and booze, and not worry about being loud, this is your place! But if you are a middle aged/older couple, looking for "authentic" Hawaiian pupus, and have lost your ability to digest greasy, salty, heavy food... maybe just skip it. We really gave it a good "college" try as it was strongly recommended to us by a server at another restaurant. Eighteen year old me probably would have loved it. But holy cow, this was pure misery for me, lol. The place is very loud, with concrete floors, bare walls that seem designed to make everything loud. I wasn't the only "older" person wincing lol. We had: Six little piggies: dry, chewy, overcooked pork. Blech. Nachos - huge. But so covered with sauce and cheese it was soggy. Very greasy and salty. I think I would have liked it when I was 18. Crab cake & salad - this was their most successful dish. It is huge. The crab cake didn't have much crab but it was ok. The salad is enormous and full of cheese and ham. It wasn't great, just a giant, ok salad. The service was FANTASTIC though. We were quite surprised at how attentive and friendly the staff were, even though it was clear we were in the wrong place lol.

Came here after a long day of North Shore surfing. We were starving and the food here looked tasty and in large portions on picture. This turned out to be true, as everything we ordered came in nice, shareable portion sizes. I absolutely loved the nachos (with crispy wonton skin chips) and the grilled catch of the day, which for us was a yummy deep sea fish. The pasta, dynamite shrimp, and crab salad were pretty good as well. We left feeling very satisfied. Service was nice and friendly, and they even helped me with the very difficult to open bathroom door. The bathroom itself is a bit sketchy because it isn't in the building but rather a couple of blocks away through the back door, and requires a key and pushing at a very particular angle to open . We did also have a weird drunk dude walk in waving at our group and being awkward, but I guess that's normal around here because no one else reacted lol. Other than that though, the food and service here are very good! It'll definitely get you nice and full after a day of surfing.

Uncle Bo's Pupu Bar & Grill Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Uncle Bo's Pupu Bar & Grill

Do you folks have a happy hour, if so what time is it?

    4pm - 6pm, everyday

Where is the outdoor bathroom located?

    No outdoor bathroom, it's inside.

Do they take reservation for a party of 6?

Yes I believe so, give them a call I'm pretty sure they do tho 🤙🏾🎅🏽

Why does Yelp say there is a happy hour when everyone is confirming there isn't one?

Probably a small handful of people answered that they do have one. But you are correct as uncle Bo's doesn't have a happy hour.

What time does the kitchen close?

    I believe 11PM if I'm not mistaken

Does anyone know what is on the Chef's all you can eat menu?

Sorry, I don't know what's on that offering.

Is it 21 and over for certain hours?

I don't think so. We had 2 children in our party which started at 7:00.

How much is the chief all you can eat menu?

If you get the appetizer menu it's $28 per person and $32 per person for the entree option. Just remember it's for a minimum of 10 people!!

What time is happy hour? Thank You everyone for your responses.

It opens at 5 but no happy hour. Great food and drinks, nonetheless.

Does anyone know of the chef special has kid prices?

3-9 years old is half price

Do they still have the chef choice all you can eat from the menu?

Yes they still have the All you can Eat chefs choice. I just called the other day and they offered it to me with party of 10 or more.

    What time is happy hour?

They do have an impressive craft beer menu, some guest taps, and a full complement of high-octane spirits. I was initially disappointed that their Big Swell IPA was tapped out. My second choice, the Overboard IPA, was a great 2nd choice. This is a typical IPA with a dry finish. During lunch, I ordered the Bikini Blonde. This is an all-day lite but refreshing beer with a crisp finish. I ordered the seared ahi salad for lunch. This exceeded my expectations. The generous portion of ahi was seared perfectly. The ahi was accompanied by an egg, avocado, radish, Okinawan sweet potato, furikake goat cheese, and drizzled with Bikini Blonde-cilantro vinaigrette. Deliciouso! There are big screen TVs available if you wish to catch a game. Service was excellent at the bar, and the bartenders knew their beer and provided great guidance. Check out their website as they have a great HH and specials.
