Given how everything is moving toward AI and libraries get rid of old books nowadays, and our government has become one of gaslight and denial, books and bookstores like this will be the only preservation of the truth that remains. Precious things these are. The oldest book this bookshop has is from the 1600s. Wow.

So -- here I am in Frigid but Gorgeous Homer, Alaska without a hat - freezing my ears off, and planning to go out on a boat on Thursday, where I KNOW it's going to be 20 degrees colder. And there on the boardwalk in front of me is the Alpaca Connection, with a plethora of sweaters, capes, jackets, blankets and -- HATS! Even at $25, I had to have one. The hat I settled on actually was on sale for $18 and wasn't made in Peru of Alpaca wool, but rather came from Ecuador, which is still okay. It will keep me warm. After leaving the store, I strolled into a souvenir shop a few doors away and found an acrylic knitted cap bearing the logo "HOMER, AK" for less than half the price. However it didn't have the panache of mine!

The previous customer paid with a credit card and asked for a receipt. The female owner said, you want a handwritten one? Acting like it was a pain for her. The patron said I guess not that's ok (not appearing to be difficult). I went back into the store and asked, what is the tax rate for Seldovia? She said 9.5 %. I told her I was overcharged 4 dollars on a 30.00 dollar purchase. She played dumb and said, I only charge what my register says. I also told her she is practicing very poor business practices not giving receipts to patrons. I doubt she is paying/claiming her tax revenues correctly to the state of Alaska. Don't shop here. The receipt I asked for didn't even have a date or time on it (included in the photo).
