As a student I have access to the studio during business hours (as long as it doesn't interfere with another active class) and the course is very open study. You ask- he shows you or does a presentation about it. Today I threw my largest pieces to date, I was pretty excited about that! With decades of experience, a very laid back demeanor and plenty of work space- the course and studio is great. Today was my first time taking advantage of going in outside of class time- I easily checked in at the Admin office and they walked me over to the classroom to unlock it for me. I need to take advantage of this more and I am seriously thinking about enrolling in additional classes. I laugh that the studio is messier than my taste- but with so many students (they have had the highest enrollment in Ceramics to date I believe), things don't always get cleaned up properly. I may have spent a little time cleaning this morning before I started my pottery work. I am so excited that we will be learning Raku firing method too!!! I hope to learn how to make a lidded pot and really get better at my forms. Cost for the course does not include clay, they have limited supplies of reclaimed clay, and you are encouraged to bring your own tools if you have them.

FCCJ consists of several different campuses, with concentrations at each one. The south campus focuses mainly on the Arts. Therefore, this is also the campus most known for its performances and gallery exhibits. FCCJ was undergoing a lot of changes with its Digital Multimedia program when I took it. It was the first year there was an entire course in flash, and the first year there was a course focusing solely on HTML. That was 2-3 years ago. Flash had already been around since 1996 or so. Do the math. Hahaha. Took them long enough. But then again, it is a community college. Still, there are many good points to this little college. They have a kick ass photo lab (which I hear is way better than the one at University of North Florida a short drive away), several computer labs (I hear they are one of the most wired community colleges in Florida), and even a Mac lab (and they were planning to add another one after I left). In addition to the regular on-campus classes, they offer really convenient TV and online classes for single parents, busy bees, workaholics, and car-less folks who want to continue their education. As for professors? Most of them were willing to help students if they needed help or had questions. Even if much of the work was self-taught from the book, classes often consisted of reviewing of the materials from the book. I had originally doubted community colleges, but they do a pretty good job here. I have also heard that they are in the process of trying to become a 4 year institution. Pretty interesting because some of the teachers that teach here also teach at the university.

This is an oddball review not of the school, but of the Early Voting available at this campus! I…read morewent yesterday- day 1 of early voting. Kudos to Duval for having live waiting times! We usually go to the Library- but the wait there was about an hour- so we opted for FSCJ- which was actually closer to home! 15 minutes from getting in line to getting back in the car! Socially distanced is the 2020 theme, everyone masked, we waited and moved up our spot in line every minute or so. Once inside- they swipe your ID and you are given a number. You move onto the next desk- pick up that number ballot and go find any available station. They are sanitizing in between voters- I watched a young man hustle from station to station as they were vacated. Onto the voting desk- I checked my ballot 3x to make sure every oval was fully filled in and every section voted on- making sure my vote counts! Once finished you head over to the machines that scan you ballot in, grab your sticker and head out. Easy! You may not be able to see the smiles behind the masks- but the poll workers were all cheerful and nice! Thanks to FSCJ for opening your doors to be a voting location!

While I was there I got to check out the facilities, there's a computer lab, there's a really nice little room with the snack bar that is a do it yourself sort of thing and says quite a few classrooms. There's always security on the premises and sometimes they come around and check in the classrooms even to see who is there. They seem to be on. Top of things. The parking lot is large enough to handle the business and it was clean, it's nicely landscaped, the inside is nice and clean and well-maintained although just a smidge dated. It was certainly more than adequate for our needs. I'm kind of excited to know that there's another college in Jacksonville so there's more choices for the people who live here. Nova has a great reputation.

Overall, the concessions are inexpensive, they didn't give me a hard time about bringing a drink in, the game was free, and there were places to watch both standing along the field and in the stands. The campus is very pretty and it was great to expose my children to college sports without having to pay anything for sure. This is a nice option if you want to see how your children do watching college sporting events, and always nice to be able to cheer on a local Jacksonville team.

Jacksonville University may market itself like a prestigious private university with a $60,000+…read moreprice tag, but our family's experience was extremely disappointing -- especially for student athletes. My daughter attended JU, ran track and field on scholarship, and recently graduated with her master's degree. While we're proud of her for persevering, the way she and other athletes were treated throughout her time there was unacceptable. Injuries were consistently downplayed, and there was pressure to continue training and competing despite ongoing issues. My daughter is not someone who quits, so she pushed through, and in our opinion it only made things worse physically. Student athlete health and long-term well-being should come before performance. There also seemed to be a clear priority system within athletics where bigger sports received better treatment while track and field and cross-country were often overlooked. Trainers appeared far more focused on higher-profile sports, while runners frequently felt neglected or brushed aside. The school would push athletes to participate in fundraising programs with promises of team gear if certain donation goals were met. My daughter met the required goals, only to later be told there was not enough gear available anyway. Situations like that were incredibly frustrating and felt dishonest to the athletes putting in the effort. The dorm conditions were also terrible at times, including mold concerns that did not seem to be handled with the urgency they deserved. Campus maintenance overall felt lacking. Her vehicle was repeatedly damaged in parking areas with no accountability, and landscaping crews constantly blew dirt and debris all over students' cars. The dining hall food was another major disappointment. We heard repeated complaints about food quality and cleanliness, including bugs and hair found in meals. That is completely unacceptable for a university charging premium tuition prices. Thankfully, my daughter graduated and moved on, but if I were paying full tuition for this school, I would be furious. Families considering Jacksonville University -- especially athletes -- should strongly research all other options before committing.

The education was very valuable, the professors became mentors and friends and I was never a number, I was always an individual. I was accepted into 4 law schools out of the 8 I applied to. I chose Florida Coastal because they allowed me to sit in on a first year Torts class during my visit and I loved how students were excited to learn and the professors were hard on them but at the same time helpful and pushed them to be their best. From the very beginning, I have felt seen, supported, and truly cared for, not just as a student, but as a person with goals and dreams. The faculty and staff didn't just teach me, they believed in me. They pushed me, guided me, and helped shape me into the nurse I am today. Because of their support, I was able to step into my career with confidence and secure a position at one of the most prestigious hospitals in the United States, something I will never take for granted. What means even more to me is that their support didn't end at graduation. They have continued to reach out, offer mentorship, and remind me that I will always have a place to come back to. That kind of genuine care is rare, and it speaks volumes about what Keiser University stands for. Being invited to the Florida State Capitol was an experience I will never forget. Meeting the campus presidents and the Keiser family showed me, in the most powerful way, that this university is truly about its students. Keiser University - NOT SO MILITARY FRIENDLY as they seem…read more Keiser University markets itself as a "military friendly" school; however, there are zero protections for active duty, National Guard, and reservists when it comes to Keiser's attendance policy. In the past, KU supported military mission requirements with LOA and Excused Absences for Military Services - in the current student handbook, KU no longer helps military students complete their educational endeavors with these protections. If you are a part of the military, be reserves, National Guard, or active duty, I suggest looking into other schools such as FSU that accommodate unexpected training/drill, deployment, or change-of-station orders. I would love to see Keiser University adopt its previous accommodations (as advertised in 2016). It is unfortunate that students called to service are receiving unexcused absences, have no opportunities for class extensions, and are being forced out of programs due to KU's lack of military protections.
