Food(5/5): I love the ice cream flavors here, they're unique compared to other ice cream shops and they don't skimp out on their mix in flavors. My favorite flavors here are gansito and fruta seca! I have been craving for mangonada for days thanks to some yelp reviews from some fellow yelpers but haven't had luck in locating one that had it in stock! So I relied on Yelp search to help me out and went to where I know they are always in stock - local places like these! I was sooooo looking forward to having an authentic mangonada from here as it came highly recommended by my younger brotha! Parking was fairly easy - I walked in and everyone was tanning a mangonada - I walked up and ordered a medium mangonada which cost me $9.01 - $10 after tip! This is my 3rd mangonada ever and this one has too much "sauce" for my liking. Easily too salty and not enough mango ice cream (which was actually really good) but was completely covered in the salty/sour sauce. If the sauce was cut back by half - I think I would really really like it! I just didn't know til it was too late! I might come back and ask them to hold loading the sauce the way they did this time. I wasn't really greeted with a smile or left with one from the staff so I dunno...summer is around the corner soooo am sure I'll come by if I'm in the area to try it again! My boyfriend's sister and I came here today and we got 4 mangonada and a carrot juice to go. We were on the way home in the car when we noticed something black in the carrot juice. When we got home, we removed the lid and saw that it was a cockroach. I don't know how the lady who juiced the carrot and put it in the cup and put a lid on it did not see a cockroach just floating at the top of the drink. It was super disgusting. I'll keep this review short and sweet. My immediate impression was that this place can't possibly be commendable, but don't be fooled by the lack of ambiance and visual appeal. The ice cream was impeccably delicious and smooth in texture. I snarfed the coconut ice cream during my first visit and pistachio during my second. The ice cream was loaded with coconuts and pistachios, providing intense and rich flavors that I enjoyed hours after consumption. I can still taste it as I write this review. If you enjoy fruity ice cream flavors, this place is for you. The ice cream is also of high value, for large cup it is $3.75, and you will mostly likely skip dinner if you finish it all. Best place to get Mangonada ever! This is my go to place whenever I crave or in need of a Mangonada and lucky for me, it happens to be right near my house. Although, I don't exactly like their location since it's small and parking can be difficult; but, it's not too bad. The mango here is always so delicious (sweet and ripe). I usually get overwhelmed by their mango sorbet so i just ask for no sorbet or just a little bit. The tamarind stick was so tasty and it adds extra flavor.Sometime it can be hard for you to customize your order though since not all the employees there can speak English. In my sister's search for a local magonada, our Yelp search yielded United Paleteria y Neveria. First off, if you're not familiar with the area, you will get lost. Their sign is obscured by a portable awning which was great for the throngs of people lined up, but not ideal for the people looking for it from the street. It is also one way so if you miss the entrance, you will either have to double back or just make a right into the next cross street and park on a side lot. The long lines of people should have clued me in to how popular this place is. First off, let me say that Mexican desserts are a new discovery for me, so I'm no expert. I just know what I like. My first experience in Sacramento was very positive and we have been trying as many places as we can. My sister got the mangonada. I got the fresa con crema. We got strawberry, mango and pineapple paletas for the kids. We also got fruit with tajin, dorinachos and tostilocos. My sister liked her mangonada, but it melted too fast. My fresa con crema was good, but I prefer another version I had with strawberry sorbet.The kids loved the paletas, especially the strawberry. I'd never had tostilocos before, but my sisters wanted to try as much of the menu as possible. My sister & BIL LOVED the tostilocos. We've always been fans of jicama and cucumbers so this hit the spot. I had a few bites but it was too spicy for me. I liked the dorinachos, but we didn't eat it fast enough and it got all gooey and inedible after a while. Mental note, it is best to eat all this at the shop and not to go, especially on a hot summer day. I really liked the chewy candy on the straw as well. The bionico was my favorite though. It had a bunch of fruit (apple, pineapple, cantaloupe, and banana) covered in a sweet cream and topped with granola, coconut, and raisins. It was the perfect mix of flavors and textures. We also ended up getting popsicles on our way out. My sister got a pistachio popsicle which was so good. I don't usually like pistachios but it was so creamy and delicious. The Mangonada is $5 flat... a bit expensive for the dessert cup, but I think it's well worth it. This place is kinda located in a sketchy neighborhood/colorful plaza off King and is one of those hole in a wall places. The line can get long, but it's cause everyone be on dat Mangonada! So I ordered the mangonada - great dessert, definitely unique and lived up to the hype. I would have loved it except... while I was there, one of the workers climbed up on the fridge and started cleaning off a ceiling fan that had years worth of dust on it. The dust was at least 1cm high. The worst thing was that she used a makeshift mop, which was a broom with a towel on it. Keep in mind that the ice cream refrigerator was right below her (and didn't have those hygienic glass covering on the cashier's side). You can probably see where this is going. So we decided that it must be like pearl tea and we all sucked on it hoping that we will get something out of the cup. Now, back to the Mangonada...Since I got home, I have been staring at it for the longest time before I worked up my guts to try it. Just because I don't take spicy stuff really well and this thing looks like it has a lot of chili in it. Okay, fine ... I admit I was a little skeptical of how I feel about it. Finally, I took a bite of the mango and after 1/3 of it is in my tummy, I still can't decide if I like it or not. I have been wanting to try a mangonada, so I found this place near my hood! The store is kinda hard to find as it is located in a small and busy plaza! I was lucky enough to get parking right away. The store is pretty much a hole in a wall place that specializes in ice cream and other Mexican desserts! It was jammed packed when I went. The store was filled with families with kids all eager to try their ice cream and other specialties! The wait was long, but not terrible. The ladies that work there are extremely nice as well! I loved their Mangonada! The bottom of the cup was covered in chamoy sauce/syrup(?) The lady added the flavoring in the cup along with fresh slices of mangoes! The mangoes were then covered with chilli powder and more chamoy sauce to give it that distinct taste that's truly Mexican! it was really good and refreshing! Oh and it's only $4!!! Great alternative to your typical Jamba Juice smoothies! :) Other items on their menu: + Wide selection of ice cream flavors! (coconut, cheese, elote, lemon... etc!) + They sell the Mexican chips here! They cut the bag of chips open and drench with with hot sauce and other toppings like jalapenos and etc... Huh... whoddathunkit? The ice cream is very mouth watering! Abram suggested we grab "Mexican dessert" after receiving his text to come here, we came! If you're using the iPhone app to get directions here... think again. I was looped a couple of times more towards Pink Elephant than across the street to this location. Parking, if you miss the first entrance coming up to it on your right side, just keep going! Don't go in the parking lot there. It's one direction only and a find it harder to get out when it got busy in the area.There a parking area to the right at a small intersection. Park the in the spots closer to the building, not the one closer to the street, as it maybe a small street, cars often drive there when you're trying to back out. The inside of the shop is pretty small. I believe it was only 3 tables inside. There's one TV on for you to watch, it's not in English LOL. Well, duh! I suggest bringing cash if you're not going to be paying more than $5 to use their card feature as payment. I bought 2 small cups of ice cream at $2 each totaling to only $4, I bought another juice to use my card, as I was short $1 to pay! The galleta flavor (cookies 'n cream) may look all dark and dramatic through the display window, but once scooped into the cup, you see more of the vanilla than what was original seen when looking at all the flavors. Yes, there is indeed cookie chunks in there, but the cookies are more on the finely ground side, you get lucky and a bite or 2 of those you get a large piece of cookie. It's think, it's creamy, and it melts fast! So lick the sides up quickly, even if it's in a cup, they stack the cup up with a large amount of ice cream. The vanilla flavor, I don't think Ive had this flavor the way it was meant to be in a long time. This beats any store bought flavor that varies their vanilla taste as well as color to make vanilla constantly the odd yet, very light shade of white. It's sweet, thick, creamy and the correct vanilla kick to the tastebud you'd want on any given hot day to enjoy a delicious frozen treat. Orange juice, fresh squeezed orange juice. I was just short of asking for some orange slices thrown into my cup. I didn't need it. The drink is scooped out of that big, clear plastic barrel, (similar to scooping up some horchata) was refreshing. It wasn't overly sweet, not was it tart. You tasted the orange, you definitely taste the sugar stirred into it as well. I'd recommend it if you like having sugar in your juice. Ok, I went back and gave this place another shot and thank GOD I did, because I am now hooked. I love this place and so does my daughter. I can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu. I highly recommend this place if you are craving something fruity or you're really interested in trying some tasty Mexican treats! My tip for you first timers. Come in the after noon. If you don't really know the area, it's a little hard to find. It's in a Mexican plaza off of King Rd. At first glance, the location seems a little sketchy! But I've come to love hole in the wall places, and why not support our small local businesses? I've been on a hunt to find a mangonada in the bay area as I've only had it in San Diego. Mangoes are not in season so they were definitely on the sour side for me, plus the sour chamoy did not make me a happy camper. I did however enjoy the chili powder that topped off the dessert, and the tamarind stick was tasty in the ice cream. I know I shouldn't have but I kept comparing it to the mangonada I had in SD, but I have to give them credit because their ice cream was pretty darn good. It looked like an icy texture with bits of magoes in it, mMM! But when you take a bite, it's not as cold and icy as you would've expected from the appearance of it..the texture felt more smooth! All I ever hear about and see is the mangonada. It's all over my instagram and damn does it look good. In my opinion, it was okay. Nothing to really rave about. It has the chili sauce all over the sides and the bottom, then they put in the mango sorbet and top it off with fresh mangoes and the chili tamarind sauce. Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing combo. Some of the mangoes were super crunchy and for this they need to be ripe and juicy. I'd also prefer it to be ALL mango and no sorbet. Anyways, it looks like everyone is down playing the BIONICO. Now that's what I'd come for and definitely will be making a trip back. It's mexican yogurt (which was uber creamy and pretty sweet but not too sweet) topped with fresh fruit (strawberries, cantaloupe, banana, pineapple, apples and raisins), granola, and shredded coconut. I might be late on the mangonada craze, but what's the crazy fuss about? Of course since everyone's been talking/ posting pictures on Instagram I been wanting to at least try it. I've Heard stories of ridiculously long lines and horrific time wait, but that wasn't the case for me. From start to finish everything was done in under 10 mins. So what's the big fuss over some Lucus tangy Mexican candy turn into an ice cream dessert all about.? Really it's just mango sherbet ice cream in a cup with mangos, chili candy whatever, and a cool looking straw with some Mexican candy wrapped around it. $5 for a cup of ice cream and Mangos?.. Ehh Not something I'll do much raving about. But I did hear the watermelon one tasted better lol. My first ever authentic Mangonada and I'd go back for more! It was $5 for a 16oz cup: 2 scoops of mango sorbet packed and stacked with fresh mangos and heavily drizzled in tamarind/chili sauce!
