We tried to clean up the best we could, but Kip's overnight bag was stolen by a lot lizard at the Texaco, so he had to wear my Calvin Klein's, three sizes too small the rest of the way home. Freckles was drenched in #2, so we stuck her in back in her cage, where she immediately set to screaming for the rest of the ride. It was under these circumstances, Kip trying not to barf because he is sensitive to smells, that we had to drive the last one hundred fifty miles. We got pulled over in Itasca, and the cop gave us a ticket for going 8 over. Sorry I was a little heavy on the gas, officer. I didn't want my hubby back to rehab with another bout with bulimia onset by puking his guts over I-35. Thanks for the empathy. I hope Itasca got a new dirt road with my money.

I come through Milford on my way to some of the nearby towns. Unlike a lot of people, I actually…read moresometimes stop there to see what's up and what's new. Sadly, this once thriving town is in a bit of a decline. Many of the businesses on Main Street have gone away and the few that remain are struggling to find more ways to get people to stop and shop. It's sad to see really as Milford has some great people in it and in my opinion, these small towns are part of the American experience and should be supported .

This was a nice walk. Saw a few homeless people. They were nice and friendly. I understand that they had renovated the suspension bridge recently. It's a nice park and area to walk around.

Located in front of the West City Hall, this marker points out the history of West. Which is sort…read moreof in East Texas but we'll just roll with it. The marker is a bit faded and could use some cleanup. It reads, "This community traces its origin to the establishment by entrepreneur Thomas M. West of a stagecoach stop, dry goods store and post office here in the late 1860s. Known as the Bold Springs Settlement, these commercial structures were built on a section of the "Dallas Road" leading to West's ranch property. Early Anglo-American settlers were soon drawn to the area by its abundance of good water and the availability of rich wooded prairie blacklands. In 1880 the Missouri, Kansas, & Texas (Katy) Railroad erected a depot at Bold Springs and in 1882 the name of the community was changed to West in honor of Thomas West. The coming of the railroad and the emergence of cotton production in the 1880s attracted many Czech and German immigrants to this area. By 1900 the town had become the economic and cultural center of the thriving farming region of north-eastern McLennan County. The community soon added its first newspaper, bank, volunteer fire department, and its first block of brick buildings. By 1910 West was a bustling town of about 2000 people. Since then the community has experienced slow but steady growth. Westfest, an annual event since 1976, celebrates the community's Czech heritage."
