I solemnly swear this is the only place I will be eating Thai food in Brighton!! It really IS as good as they say.
I'd be meaning to try this place out for ages and it was this wet, dreary Friday that I finally did. It was smaller than I thought it would be, and crammed with an explosion of Thai treats and produce, from sauces and marinades, to fresh Thai veg, sweets, an amazing frozen section with delicious looking dim sum and ready meals. It is a feast for the eyes.
At the back there are a small number of tables and a large, long one nearest the front - usually rammed with people, all come to eat the amazing lunches they serve. I was one of those people.
We were seated on a communal table after a little wait and shown the menu (there is also a specials board). I went for a pork ball noodle broth called Kuay-tiew Rua (6b on the menu) and G went for a Panang curry and a Kao Pad. We waited, and waited, and waited! It took ages, I was salivating at everyone else's food for about 40 minutes - sorry everyone if I put you off! But when it came... MAAAN! It was worth the wait. My Broth was one of the most flavoursome delicious things I've ever tasted. Deep, rich dark colour with rice noodles, pork balls - (I was dubious but they were amaze), marinated pork strips - juicy and tender, greens and topped with spring onions and coriander. PHWOAR. The condiments on the table consist of sugar, soy, pickled chillies and chilli powder. I was a bit too trigger happy on the powder and ended up blowing my own head off, the laughing Thai girl opposite me then informed me it was a mixture of ground Thai chilli powder AND Indian chilli powder mixed together. The results are explosive so go easy! It really didn't need anything adding to it anyway but I do like my chilli. It was DIVINE, a tastebud explosion of goodness.
G's food was also mouth-wateringly good - REAL Thai food, so good - he scoffed his first dish and HAD to get another.
Nothing like the muck I've had before from take-aways and restaurants.
All the while I got chatting to others round the table, some from Thailand and it made for a very interesting, pleasurable outing. I got some tips of how to cook the produce I'd bought from the shop too!
All in all, I have been in a bad mood for the past few months in this weather, but today I can't stop smiling. Definitely a little taste of Thailand, My new favourite spot.
