It turned out to be a beautiful day. They made sure to put us on fish and we limited out. The atmosphere they created on the boat was of life long friends. Karen at Adventure Tours was a total rockstar in helping me get a tour booked. I came a bit early in the season and with my dog, so getting a date and a group willing to travel with a dog was a bit challenging. Karen was constantly communicating with me while I was up there trying to find a group for me to go out on the boat with. And she did! We'd been chatting back and forth while she was checking the best date for the weather, and we were able to have a wonderful tour! Captain Lauren was likewise a rockstar and our all-lady tour (except for my male pup) was a total blast. I love that this tour was in a smaller speedboat and there were only four of us plus dog plus Captain Lauren. We got to chat and mention things we might want to know and see, and Lauren was a trove of information and fun facts. We also were able to get closer to some of the cooler islands and rock formations than the huge commerical tour boats we saw further out in the water. We got to naviate inside some of the sea caves and look out at the big boats who couldn't fit or get this close. This was 100% the way to go for a water tour. I cannot recommend this option enough, and extra love for being dog friendly.

Very Good: Views of the greatest Great Lake of them all. True story: I saw a deer. I inadvertently scared some baby birds. And I singlehandedly rescued a turtle on the 15th hole.

We spent half a day on the Black Hawk II and Ken ran us out to Stockton Island to fish. The Black Hawk II is fully outfitted with the latest gear and we actually caught all of our fish off of Ken's custom lures. Captain Ken is a third generation charter fisherman and it shows. You will enjoy Ken's engaging personality and certainly his expertise on knowing where the fish are and how to safely navigate on Lake Superior. His dog Lucy will keep you company while you wait for the signal, 'fish on!'. We fed 8 people on our 1/2 day catch and the best part is, Ken cleans the fish! The park feels remote considering you have to take a car ferry and drive to the other side of the island to get there. Firewood was available for $9 a bundle up by the office. We hiked a few of the trials--lagoon ridge train was not kept up, there are signs alerting of this. The walk by the beach and the water was very nice. The flies were bad when we went, and so were mosquitoes, but it probably had to do with the time of year! We went into town several times, they have one small grocery store and a few bars and restaurants. Overall a great experience and would go back!

We came here on the ferry from Bayfield (super easy, but recommend having your car on the ferry if…read moreyou plan to head out here) and had a great time hiking. I was a little confused on where I was supposed to park for the trails, but there's essentially one road so you just kinda figure it out as you go (I went the wrong way the first time, maybe a 2 minute detour). We parked near the beach access area, and started off on the trails. We took the Woods Trail to the Point Trail to the Bayview Trail -- and it brings you right back to the same place. I recommend doing it in this order (which I think is counter-clockwise?) versus the reverse. While the Woods Trail is in a lovely, lush green woods, after seeing the rocks and lake sites along the other trails, the Woods Trail would be a very boring way to end. Starting with the Woods Trail, it's only better as you go along. I hiked with my senior large dog, and he did just fine on the paths. Pretty clear markings and nothing super treacherous if you don't venture out on to the rock formations. Dogs are not allowed on the beach or boardwalk (big sad face), so we went back to town after the hike. Along our way, we saw a small black bear crossing the road! Quite an adventure. Depending on date and time, might be limited food options on the island, so have a plan and check out your options ahead of time.
