What a unique spot! The name Upcider says it all - its located upstairs, with large windows overlooking Polk street, and serves a huge variety of ciders. I had lots of fun choosing and trying different ciders in their $20 flight, which includes 6 4-oz ciders. They give you a marker to write which 6 drinks (out of a menu of 20!) you want on the flight holder, which brought me back to middle school whiteboarding days. The inside is also very cute - it is dimly lit with string lights and well decorated. I loved the funky/techno music! The food was not as impressive, though it was still good. I preferred my Turkish flatbread which had foreign flavors, to my friend's cajun chicken sandwich which I thought tasted pretty standard. Upcider is a great alternative to the typical Polk Street bar scene for those who are more cider inclined, as well as a slightly more relaxed atmosphere. Every time I've been to Upcider, the vibe has been very relaxed, much more a cozy place to catch up with friends vs. screaming at each other across a loud bar to try and wrangle a cohesive drink order. As with a lot of places that let you build your own flight, it's very much a pick and choose type adventure, and while I can't see myself coming that regularly for any drink in particular, it was a fun experience nonetheless. I love cider! Mostly because I hate bitter things, and beer always tastes bitter to me. Whenever I go to breweries or bars, they have maybe 2-3 cider options max. Not this place! There was a whopping 4 whole pages of cider! A good portion of them are on tap, and so you can try them before you commit. I asked the bartender for their sweetest offering. It was a strawberry lime concoction from Sweden. So yummy! It doesn't taste like alcohol at all. I drink to get a buzz, not for the flavor. We came right when they opened and 5pm on a Friday. There are wine, beer, and food offerings as well. I saw a sweet potato fry with blueberry ketchup on the menu. Definitely will try that next time. It's SF, so parking sucks. I was introduced to this place prior, where it's $20 for a flight of 6. While the flights are limited to the selection on the board, there is a huge selection of ciders for individual glasses. Unfortunately, I don't recall all the flight flavors we got, they all tasted amazing. We also go the mango raspberry cider and pineapple passionfruit cider. The mango raspberry was our favorite, definitely tasted like a sparking juice. The pineapple one was a bit more tart, but also really good. We also ordered the garlic fries. The garlic wasn't as much as I hoped, but the fries were still really good. I would definitely come back again. The food is a bit expensive for average portions, but the flatbreads are prob the best for value. It's definitely a nice place to hang out (a little dark if anything). I spent an early New Year's Eve dinner out in Polk Street and found this place, and I have to say, as the "first cider bar in America," this place hits all the spots for what you'd want and expect for a cider bar, and bar in general. It's got that intimate "tasting room" kind of vibe for aficionados, but plenty of communal sitting to enjoy REALLY good eats and chats with friends. Since it was a Saturday night on NYE, the place naturally got a little packed towards the end of the night. This place is on the second floor (go upstairs) from street level. The food is actually DELICIOUS for a bar/gastropub. Lots of places I know don't serve good bar food, but this place had the eats that were well worth the price. I had some of the Turkish Pizza Flatbread (blend of light meats, spinach and gruyere) which was surprisingly light and easy to eat -- similar to a margherita pizza, and also their standout flatbread. I ordered an Eggplant Slider for myself which was to DIE for -- arugula, goat cheese, a hunky piece of tomato and a hefty, meaty eggplant slice (cooked through, soft and and chewy). For a slider, it was definitely satisfying and appetizing for the price! I also split the Garlic Parmesan Fries which I had no complaints about, and the Buffalo Fries which were basically soft and doused with the buffalo wing spice and peppers on top -- definitely felt the heat with it. The cider menu definitely looked daunting, as they had lists of ciders from ALL AROUND THE WORLD (Germany, England, Spain, US?! How was I to decide?). I decided Spain was a nice, promising region to try a cider from, as their tasting notes were lighter and fruit-forward. I didn't want their super-sweet ones so I decided on the Maeloc -- a Pear Cider with slight sweetness. It hit the spot. (As for ciders in general, they can get pretty sweet and like you're drinking juice nonstop... Let it creep!). I'd definitely be back here in a heartbeat. I'd visited Upcider a few times pre-pandemic and came back for the first time last week for dinner. My friends and I ordered 2 flights of cider, 1 garlic fries and 1 sweet potato fries to share, and each person ordered their own entrée. We all had different preferences; I personally enjoyed 2, 4, 15, 18 the most. I recommend trying a mix of sweet and tart ciders to see which suits your palette. Two flights for the 5 of us was a little too much for us, so I'd recommend having at least 3 people per flight. Fries were super yummy and paired well with the drinks. I ordered the lamb burger - the meat was too salty for me; I'd pass on getting dinner foods here next time. It was decently busy on the Wednesday night, with most tables full by 8pm. Had a great time with friends and a hot date! Their list of ciders is the 'Utmost' - not certain about that grammatically but you get the point. It's a cool spot and obviously on trend. In 2014 Cider consumption increased by 89%!! I've always liked it and ordered it occasionally but now there are real choices. I personally like the one's that are more dank, funky, have some Brett and / or yeast in them. I tried a Sheppy's, a Sonoma Cider, and get this....................... Bereziartua (a funky apple cider from Basque Country - northern Spain into the Pyranees.) Anyway - great atmosphere and a lot of great flavor profile's to check out. I brought my sister here before a concert since it was one of the few places in the area that was reportedly gluten free. I have celiacs disease and was pleased to be able to have some drinks. I went to order and asked if there was anything on the menu I could eat since I could not have gluten. The server told me I could have a salad so I order the kale salad. When the salad arrived there were croutons in it. Very disappointing considering I had told them about my allergy and they still included bread. The best cider selection in the entire Bay Area! They have ciders from all over the world and all kinds of different styles and flavors. 18 of them are on draft and can be mixed and matched for a flight. In addition, their buffalo fries were awesome and flavorful and unique (pretty thin French fries in a spicy and tasty buffalo sauce with bleu cheese and diced carrots and celery). We also had a few of the sliders (all of them sounded tasty): the lamb, the portobello, and the pulled pork. They were on fluffy and tasty brioche-like buns and each had a great flavor. They were kinda small, but reasonably priced, so that was good. The ambiance was pretty chill and it's upstairs and has a bunch of windows to look down on the street and do some nice people-watched. The lamb and ground beef flatbread was a 4/5 and I'd definitely order it again. $14 but I was really hungry and it filled me up too. The bread itself was the best part of it and it had just enough spices in it to make it interesting. I love their cider here a lot! It is my second visit- once in March and just went back last Friday. Fyi- I am a light weight, meaning I really can be tipsy after a glass of wine or a pint of beer. Is it Upcider or should it really be called Outcider or worse yet, Downcider? It probably depends on how thirsty you are and whether you have plans to dine elsewhere. On Valentine's Day, I had the implausible notion that this would be a casual, low-key place for me and Jamie W. to eat and have some cider. The cider part was decent enough albeit nothing that came fresh from a tap. It was also nice to view the hubbub of Polk Street from a cavernous second-floor space away from the glare of vagrants and perpetual gawkers. But the food was marginal at best, ill-conceived at its worst and not worth repeating until they decide to place greater focus on their food menu. Jamie and I were the only ones seated at a table for quite a while. In fact, it was a bit of a challenge to get the attention of the waiter who appeared to be doubling as a second bartender. After studying the extensive cider menu, we let him recommend our libations for us. Jamie ended up getting a $7 bottle of the German-fermented Possman Pure Apple Cider, a sweet, tingly refresher of a drink that was quite perfect for a briskly chilled evening (see photo). I ordered the $5 bottle of Ace Pear Hard Cider, which was more sweeter despite an infusion of apple cider and quite refreshing to boot (see photo). It was a tad too bitter for my taste, but I was encouraged by this start. Upcider indeed. But Downgrub it was. The chief disaster came in the form of the $6.95 Buffalo Fries, which believe it or not, came out ice-cold with a heavy ladle of blue cheese mixed with chopped carrots and celery and doused with hot sauce (see photo). We had them sent back to the kitchen for repairs only to find the fries still lukewarm on their return visit to our table. Another disappointment was the $10.95 Turkish Flatbread, which bore little resemblance to the roadside pizza I had on the Turquoise Coast of Turkey. Though there were claims of chopped lamb and beef, we barely noticed any on it, just a light tomato paste, a lot of cilantro and chopped peppers (see photo). We were audibly sighing from indifference at this point. Things picked up with the $8.95 Kale Caesar Salad, and even though kale is far more fibrous than romaine, the switch worked simply because there was ample dressing on every single leaf, and it was tossed generously with parmesan-encrusted croutons (see photo). Jamie's favorite small plate, however, was the $9.95 Garlic Shrimp which came blackened and heavily sauced in a Creole-style cream with toasted baguette slices (see photo). I liked them, too, but the sauce was a bit too overwhelming for my taste. The waiter was pleased we finished our plates and even comped us for the chilly Buffalo Fries, but that wasn't enough for us to change our mind. We may be back but only for the cider and the streetside view. FOOD - 2 stars...disappointing small plates of food treated as afterthoughts... I did enjoy that it had the light batter and it was crispy but I've had way better and have had way worst. It was fair and managable to eat. But why did I really have alot of tentacles (i hate tentacles). SWEET POTATO FRIES ($5.95) - served with house-made blueberry ketchup. Sweet potato fries were good and the blueberry ketchup was interesting. It looked really dark but it had some hints of blueberry. Not sweet, more tangy. It wasn't so bad at all! What a great concept - a bar for cider! The choices seemed endless. We really wanted to try the sampler but due to Covid, we were ordering take out only. The owner/server was very knowledgeable and recommended a cider based on our preferences. The beet and arugula salad needed more dressing. Our chicken sandwiches topped with cole slaw were good, but my wife makes a jammin' slaw so we had high standards. The garlic fries were mediocre as there just wasn't enough garlic. I have never been to up cider before nor heard of it, but they have a huge selection of ciders !!! I'm not much of a drinker, but there were so many ciders here, they even had a kombucha cider!! I wasn't that hungry but my friends ordered the Mac & cheese, potato flatbread, and buffalo fries to share. The food came out within 15 minutes, and they were served very hot !! The buffalo chicken fries had a lot of flavor !! The fries themselves were super tasty but the blue cheese sauce on top really gave it the most delicious flavor ( my friends said that since I can't eat blue cheese) the Mac & cheese was sooooo creamy and cheeses, although the portion size seemed small, it's so heavy it's really hard to eat that much of it. The potato pesto flatbread was very crispy and fresh. There was a lot of flavor and texture packed into each bite. The food here is a great greasy and tasty way to fill up before going out. Up the entry stairs and to the left, they have a beautiful location. Upcider is located on the second floor, next to a bar on Polk. I stumbled upon it while looking for a quick bite to eat before meeting friends, and was so pleasantly surprised with my experience! As can be expected from the name, they focus on cider-- with 18 on tap and pages more in cans and bottles! They don't have any beer on tap, but do have an extensive list of bottles and cans if you're not in the mood (as well as wines, etc) so there's something for everybody. I opted for the South City Original, which is a "semi-sweet with a dry finish". I actually chose a different cider before, but the bartender was kind enough to offer me to taste it (realized it wasn't my cup of tea) and then gave me a few samples based on what I told her I liked! I also ordered a Cajun chicken slider, which was so well seasoned, creamy, and cooked deliciously. The bun was brioche (buttery and soft) and I'm sure would go well with any of the sliders on the menu (I believe there were 7 types!) Overall when I'm in the area I'll definitely be back! The restaurant has an excellent variety of ciders - the most I've ever seen available at a bar or restaurant - and I liked how the menu was organized by state and country. The ciders ranged from sweet to funky, and everything in between. We ended up forgoing the menu and walking up to the counter to order the $20 flight of six ciders which require you to look at their draft cider menu listed on the boards behind the bar. It was fun being able to pick out what you wanted, write it on the wood holder and hand it back to a staff members to go find your ciders. They all tasted great and it was nice to try so many kinds. In addition to cider they have beer, wine and food. We ordered the Buffalo Fries which came with hot sauce, celery, carrots, and blue cheese, and they were...weird? The fries themselves were spicy and must have been covered in some sort of spicy rub, topped with blue cheese dressing (I think) and there were small cubes of cold celery and carrots on top of that. It just didn't make sense? The pieces of cold vegetables were too small and too heavy in comparison to the fries themselves that you couldn't eat them without a fork, and we got them to share at the table. This is a cool spot. Great variety of cider, friendly folks, floor to ceiling exhibits of the human condition below. I really wish they had phones that fed off of the pillars to the outside so we could hear or be spoken to from down below, where the chaos of living solutions reside. We also had a couple ciders, the buffalo fries (which were spicy, and I appreciated the small dice of the celery and carrot garnish), and the spinach salad (also very good, but really who wants a salad when they are drinking? - the crazy "carb-free", "bacon on the side" girls I was with--that's who!). The 2nd floor space is great and really gives you a birds-eye view of the polk gulch. It is a bit pricey for what you get, but what you get is quality with pretty decent service so no complaints....and really I want to rub that mushroom cream sauce all over someone and lick it off....Jesus, it was CRAZY yummy. read more

It's a hidden gem on the second floor of this corner. It was our first time and the waiter was very nice to explain everything to us. My partner got a cider that's mixed from #1 and #2 on their menu and I got the sweet potato fries with blueberry ketchup. I don't like the blueberry ketchup but that's just because of person taste; my partner loves it! The sweet potato fries are very good though. read more

Very cute ambiance! Great place if you're into cozy atmosphere with an abundance of ciders at your choosing. I came here with two friends and we were the first to arrive at opening. The guy who was heading the bar was very nice and attentive and helped me select my cider because normally I don't drink cider. I chose a passion fruit variety from Sweden. It was delicious! Tasted like fruit juice. I also ordered the meatballs. It was decent, but it definitely needed more salt to taste. The mac and cheese was also quite bland. Overall I'd come here again and perhaps get the garlic fries. Really chill place upstairs of Vertigo to come and post before a night out. read more

Upcider- This is a fun and hipster leaning gastro pub with expertise in adult ciders. Great small and medium plates of bar food and snacks with really thoughtful decor and a great city view from the upstairs with lots of window seating. The menu does change so you can't go wrong with popping in and seeing what's good. You can pick small snack plates, salads, flat breads, or go with a medium sized hot entree. Prices are quite reasonable for a happening San Francisco gastro hot pub. Service was handled as a team, drinks ordered directly at the bar. Very casual fun after work or weekend hang. The bathroom design is a genius way to save space and keep it hip. Very unique. All in all it's a good time. My girlfriend and I are really into cider. Hence we checked this place out. There are over 20 different ciders on tap with an additional selection on the menu. This is a nice quaint bar on the second floor with a typical ambience. Out of the 20 different ciders on tap, we tried 8-10 of them. Our specific favorites were 12 and 16, Aspoll Dry and Ace Space respectively. These are light and sweet and have a big alcohol content. A good and dangerous combo if u will. 16 specifically tastes almost like a cocktail with its citrousy taste. Accompanying our escapades was an order of garlic fries. I advise eating a little bit on ur adventure through this field of juices due to the sweetness Expect the SF prices but I just got paid so YOLOSWAG on this and you will have a good time read more

They have so many cider options here...everything from locally made to Washington, to UK, to Spain ciders! I did the flight option, 6 ciders for 20 dollars. Flight of ciders only apply to the ciders on the chalk board. Seating is self seating. It has a very cool, chill ambience. They had a coloring contest when I was here yesterday. You order everything at the bar. Food was good but I think it's pricey considering the portion. The slider was at least 5.96 for just 1!! I had the salmon cider. And the bf got a chicken slider. We shared the mac and cheese and garlic fries (which was delicious). Mac and cheese wasn't cheesy enough. read more

There`s ample seating and some really nice seating next to windows if you feel crowded at the bar or at tables (its pretty spacious, so you have ample room to stretch out). The vibe is really cool - the bar is located on the second floor of a building right on the corner of Polk street. On a busy Friday or Saturday night, you can have a nice view of everyone walking around Polk street. They also have a few things on the food menu. Upcider is a great spot for drinks and apps. My boyfriend and I came here before heading to the movies a few blocks away and enjoyed it. As expected, there's an extensive list of ciders, but beer and wine are also available. The prices for ciders vary a lot but there are a ton of reasonable options which I appreciated as I don't know much about cider. I had a black currant one which was unique and delicious! For appetizers, we had the potato soufflé, gruyere spinach flatbread, and a fired chicken slider. This ended up being plenty of food. Both the soufflé and flatbread were pretty great, but the chicken slider wasn't anything special. The ambiance wasn't anything incredible, but it did have nice lighting (and good people watching) since it was on the second floor overlooking the street. Upcider didn't blow us away but it was a good spot to hang out at for a while with reasonably priced food and drink! read more
