Upper Canyon Outfitters (UCO) is a family operated ranch located in the upper Ruby Valley. The Tate family has been enjoying the Ruby Valley since our grandfather homesteaded in 1910. History

Established in 1985.

Our grandfather, Peck Tate, homesteaded in the Ruby Valley in 1910. He came to Montana to train horses, a tradition we continue today. The ranch is situated in a narrow canyon the land which in the 1600's was a large Native American summer camp. Always having company and many people just stopping in to see our area my father Bill Tate decided to open the doors in 1985 to welcome guest commercially. Today we are a full time guest ranch with a complete lodge, cabins and horseback training facility. Only being 40 minutes from Virginia City a town that virtually was born overnight in the 860's when gold was discovered. My father, Bill Tate, is a great historian and offers history tours to our guest each summer. Our family is proud to still be on the same land our grandfather homesteaded over 100 years ago.

Meet the Business Owner: Donna and Jake M.

Donna and Jake are the owners of Upper Canyon Outfitters. Donna's grandparents homesteaded the ranch, and her parents began the guest lodge.Donna has grown up with Upper Canyon Outfitters. Donna and Jake both strongly believe in true western hospitality, which has helped UCO grow to become one of the premier guest ranches in the state of Montana.
