The cafeteria is super nice and aesthetic. Plenty of seating indoor and outside with working areas. The ordering is a bit confusing because there are a couple kiosks at entry but those are for take out orders. We sat down at the table and you can order from all the different restaurants. There are waiters that come around to drop off your food and drinks. The best dish was the seafood squid ink pasta from stellina. The pizzas were thick and underwhelming. The general two chicken from the chinese spot was salty...came with side of white rice but overall not that bad. the birria taco was advertised as 3 tacos in the photo but you only get 1 taco for 5.50! this food court is very over priced and portions are small. read more

We went the day after it opened and this did not feel like an exciting grand opening/relaunch of a fancy new food hall. It felt like what it was: A half-assed, last chance effort to rebrand Assembly because the original Assembly concept wasn't working. Upside, if that's what you want to call it now, did rectifiy the core problem with Assembly: Assembly wasn't really a food hall because all the concepts were the same company and designed by the same chef. At least Upside is an actual food hall, with different concepts by different businesses, but it retained the QR code ordering system that let's you order from multiple concepts without having to wait in line multiple times. A brilliant idea had they done that in the first place. Too little, too late I'm afraid. In all other ways this is still Assembly and it isn't good. In particular, it has the same clueless, unpolished service staff, mostly standing around doing nothing. I do appreciate that there is now automatic gratuity, which takes out the guesswork, and that it comes in at a reasonable 12.5% to acknowledge that this is not a full service restaurant. They made only minor cosmetic changes to the decor, which was unnecessary because Assembly was always beautiful. These were basically just changes for the sake of changes and they didn't add value, the exception being the excellent and thoughtful new wall mural by the main entrance. But most of all, the food and menu are actually worse now, IMO. I had assumed that bringing in actual outside business concepts would rectify the menu problem but... there are way fewer options on the menu now (maybe because they're still ramping up? I hope?), I actually found the food was worse and offered at smaller portions for the same prices, and most of the fun beverage options that Assembly used to offer, like Olipop, are gone. My fiance and I ordered from two different concepts and were impressed by neither. He got a basic pizza. His appraisal: "It's fine." It was much smaller in portion than the comparable pizza at Assembly. I got the garlic shrimp sandwich - all bread, little shrimp, one flavor (garlic) and not nearly as saucy as it looked in the menu picture. I also ordered the guava cake - it was moist enough but was basically a really small square of what tasted like vanilla sheet cake with some lime in it. Couldn't taste guava. This was sad. It felt like a restaurant that had given up after years of slowly declining, not like a big destination space that had just undertaken a massive relaunch. We'll give it one more shot but for now, meh. read more

A new food hall with plenty of diverse trendy options for food and drinks, I love the variety of options they offer here, ranging from American Burgers, Italian, Asian, and drink options with a Coffee Bar and a cocktail bar. The interior is spacious and modern, and the ordering system is really convenient: you sit wherever, scan a QR code attached to the table to order from your phone, and food runners will bring it out to your location! Keep an eye out for their Happy Hour Deals too, here's all I tried at my latest visit: KAM & 46: Kalua Pork Sisig Nachos Nakakalooka Fries Original Spam Musubi Stellina Pizzeria: Cacio & Pepe Margherita Pizza I really enjoyed the Kalua Pork Sisig Nachos, got them on a Happy Hour deal and it was delicious, great flavors on the pork and nacho chips. The Cacio & Pepe pasta was also tasty, cheese and black pepper flavors on al dente pasta, really good! The Margherita Pizza ingredients tasted pretty fresh, and the crust was nice, but I felt the flavors were lacking a bit in the sauce and cheese. The prices are also a bit on the higher side, given the location in Arlington it's inevitable I suppose, so definitely recommend checking out the Happy Hour deals. Overall though I'm glad this space has reopened, definitely a great place to grab food or just hang out in Arlington/Rosslyn. read more

Pretty much the same as Assembly with different vendors. I tried the spring rolls and they weren't great. Just greasy. And one curiously was stone cold inside while the outside was cooked. I would never get them again. And it was weird to get the sauce in a packet when it was served dining in. I'm stick to the spring rolls at Sprig and Sprout in Georgetown. Maybe the onion rings would have been safer. If you want better food, look to Happy Eatery down the street (at least for banh mi, drinks, and rice paper rolls). Even Nando's and Bethesda Bagels also down the street are better than this food hall. read more

The food is okay/good. The problem is that everything is very expensive for what you get. I liked Kam and 46's Kalua Pig, although it wasn't anything special. My friend got a pizza and the serving size was... lacking. We both had a snack later. This is a great spot to grab a drink or eat with your coworkers after a day in the office, but I wouldn't come here otherwise. I was hoping to have some additional great food options in Rosslyn, but unfortunately, it's another overpriced and underwhelming spot. read more

I recognize that this only just opened, but this was not worth it at all. It's a shame they replaced assembly with this. You order food on an app that can then be brought to your table from any of the venues which is nice, but the app doesn't seem to know what is available. We tried to order a few different kinds of tacos only to be told after trying to place the order no tacos were available. We arrived at 5:30 with few people around so it seems unlikely it sold out. We assumed that vendor was closed but there was no indication of this in the app. We did end up ordering two happy hour drinks which came to $9 each. They would not be worth $1. The old fashioned looked pathetic. I realize with liquor you never get a full glass, but with the ice added, it usually looks at least half full. This was nothing. And the margarita tasted horrible, basically like sour water. If this is just challenges with opening, I hope it can work out because it's a fun concept and worked nicely before when the space was assembly. But this was not good. I will add though, service was good--very quick, helpful, and friendly read more

Went last Thursday, they are gearing up for the same problems as Assembly. The takeaway kiosks are a new addition, but were a fail for our visit. 1. Don't put HH items on the kiosks that are for take away, when HH isn't allowed for takeaway. (No worries, we'll dine in) 2. Wait staff act only as bussers. Forget making any eye contact for assistance. 3. Cocktails on the menu may differ from what you receive. (A martini with an olive is very different than with a lime twist) 4. This may be petty.... But use glassware for the water, plastic disposable cups don't match the aesthetic. The food options and quality are not the problem... We'll return in a few weeks to see if there is improvement, but.... I don't see a difference in operation from Assembly. If this is true, Upside on Moor won't last either. read more

The QR code and website they use for their point of sale simply doesn't work - I've been here twice and each time there is an issue with the website which you need to use to make a simple order. I'm here currently and the staff is having to manually assist me due to the website not working for me. It's impossible to come here and order food normally because they require everyone to use a poorly functioning website and the kiosk tablets don't work to order food. read more

Upside then Ghostburger. Upside gets a 5/5 for me, great location that is easy to get to. Beautiful interior with a lot of seating and power outlets everywhere, this is a remote workers dream, plus their AC is amazing, especially on a hot day. I love that they have free water with a spout where you can choose still or sparkling. While I didnt try the QR code at the table ordering, kuddos for that, what a great perk. I also love the variety of places to choose from here. A little bit of everything for everyone. Now let's talk about Ghostburger. My burger was very good, close to great to be honest. My fries also came with a great seasoning, I enjoyed those a lot as well. But I take exception with a few things. First, their deceptive marketing. In their photos they show burgers with 2 patties. Their burgers don't COME with 2 patties, you have to pay extra for that. You are duping your customers and that loses them a star off the bat. Either make your burgers 2 patties or shoot new photos. Second lost star is the cost. I got my 2 patty burger with fries and paid almost $22. I didnt get a Five Guys amount of fries, it was a small amount. Now I know prices are high across the board but this is extreme. I just did a test order for a 2 patty cheeseburger (note 2 patties is standard there) and a small fry (which is basically a large anywhere else), $17. Still high but not $22, and Five Guys burgers are much larger and i would say better. So for the cost, you lose another star. Which is too bad because I really did enjoy my meal. read more

Ordering was really convenient because you scan a QR code and can see the menu from each different restaurant and check out yourself and our food came out almost immediately after placing our order. My first visit to Upside on Moore was delicious and delightful in ways that were unexpected. I don't do written reviews often (this may be my first?), but I had some epiphanies on the way home and thought I'd share. I went to Upside to have lunch and catch up with an old friend. He suggested Upside so I didn't give it much thought when I agreed to meet him there. Surprise #1: Ambience Walking into the space, you notice that each stall feels distinctive. I noticed that all the stalls seem to be local DC-born brands rather than national chains which, as a local, I appreciated. I don't come to food halls for similarity - I come to have a variety of options. Upside has a moody, industrial/cafe vibe, injections of color murals and vintage black and white old photos of the city. Surprise #2: A superior social experience (facilitated by technology) Everyone knows that social experiences at food halls are challenging. You go in different directions to take advantage of the variety. Hopefully you remembered to set a meeting place after you have food. Everyone has to wait for the last person... more than half of the time you allotted is spent on getting food. At Upside, the ordering is different. It took me a minute to get it, but what a difference it made to the experience. We picked a table and started talking. Someone brought us water!?! I thought, "That's neat". He said we can order from the table. They weren't kidding. Every table has a QR code unique to that table. We ordered from 3 restaurants (I got tacos from 1, a margarita from another and my buddy got a sandwich from a third). The food was delivered to our table. After our meal, we walked to the coffee bar and added coffees to our tab and had multiple options to split the tab - by items, by dollars, by percentage. On my way home, I realized just how much time this gave us to catch up that we otherwise would have lost. The advantages of a food hall (variety) without the downside. Huge. Surprise #3: The Food I'm from Southern California which means I frequently crave tacos - and can be critical. I got tacos from La Michoacana - 1 carnitas and 2 shrimp - that were delicious. My buddy got a sandwich from Lili's that looked amazing and the presentation was restaurant-grade. I saw a level of pride in both and I'm still thinking of my tacos a day later (which is what prompted me to write this). Location/Convenience I'm often looking for good spots to meet between DC and Falls Church and have rarely found something I wanted to repeat. Parking in Rosslyn can be horrible or expensive (or both). I noticed when I went to the restrooms that the Rosslyn Metro station connects directly to Upside. I've already invited a few folks to meet me there for HH or lunch. Outside Space / Event Space(s) My friend and I sat on the terrace overlooking a plaza across the street. It helped that the weather was gorgeous, but having that space in the middle of Rosslyn was a definite plus. There are also multiple spaces that looked like they would be good for private events of various sizes. I am often hosting different kinds of company events (internal and client facing) and always struggling to find reasonably priced options. The combination of variety, quality of the food/drink options, and the integration of the system suggest that this could be a better venue for events than many that I've spent lots of my (limited) budgets on. read more
