Yesterday, I graduated from university. Anyone who graduates from the University of Queensland St Lucia Campus will have their ceremony at the UQ Centre. I have been to this venue many times for book fairs, O-week stalls, college dancefest and other events but there is nothing like graduating here.
After just picking up my robes, I ventured into the lobby of this massive building and made my way past proud parents and happy graduands to the registration area in the small lecture theatre. This was a lovely room with comfortable seats. They were streaming the goings on of the graduation ceremony on two large projection screens for us to watch. Soon I was being ushered in with the rest of the graduands through to the impressively huge exhibition hall for the ceremony. The mass of seating available was filled with family and friends of the graduands and I looked out over the mass of people searching for the two that I cared for, my parents. Surprisingly, I did see them, thanks to my mum's flailing arms and dad's subtle wave. The ceremony was great and the exhibition hall handled the crowd extremely well as we all exited. I was very proud to have graduated and the UQ Centre was a great venue to have graduated in.
The UQ Centre is available for hire, and hosts many events, lectures, conferences, exhibitions and ceremonies throughout the year. There is parking underneath the building for a small charge. The venue is also a short walk from the UQ CityCat terminal and UQ Lakes bus stop. read more
