So ive been dying to try urban Burger for the longest time but once i heard they're haitianowned i ran full speed!!! I really wanted to like this place. We walked in knowing it had a poor reputation for service, and unfortunately it lived up to that expectation. The other big bummer is that they don't warn you that they charge you an extra 4% on top of your bill for paying with a credit card. The vibe on the interior is cool and rustic, with plain wooden tables, metal chairs, and old cassette tapes decorating the walls. It's simple and plain, but fits the casual vibe pretty well. The food wasn't bad at all. My Big Cheesy Burger was overflowing with cheese, not to mention the meat was sandwiched between two grilled cheese sandwiches. The meat was pretty basic, but the grilled cheese made it unique. The cheese sauce was pretty basic too. The burger comes with fries, but not a crazy overflowing amount of fries like you might get elsewhere. It seems like a small mom and pop shop so I don't want to be too harsh on the service, but it was slow. In the past we have heard stories of folks who have placed orders and their prepared food sat on a shelf for a while before the customer had to ask when it would be ready only to find out it had been sitting under a heat lamp, drying it out and wasting their time. Final thoughts: it was good for a one time stop, but don't think it makes my top 5 list of burger joints in Jersey. I don't know what happened, but these are not that the burgers we used to get from urban Burger. Look at the old menus and pictures here in Yelp, they show slightly higher prices, and included fries. And you got a huge burger that tasted great. The burgers we got today are half the size they used to be, plus the fries were not included and were inferior quality. Came here for lunch with a co-worker. Small location but with plenty of seating. We ordered and paid at the counter. I got the burger with sauteed onions and potato sticks no Swiss cheese. It comes with a side of fried but I also ordered an additional side of onion rings. It came with Bleu cheese (not a fan). Ketchup on counter. I also got a root beer because they have boylan on tap. The chicken wings were on point! Crispy, juicy, saucy! The burger was big, but when I asked for a bacon cheeseburger I didn't expect just that to be on the burger. Did they forget the toppings? The chicken and waffle sandwich was very yummy, but I felt like the ratio of waffle-to-chicken was a little off. Nonetheless, it was very tasty with sweet and salty flavors. The tater tots and fried pickles were perfect. I loved the Russian style dipping sauce for the tater tots, and spicy sauce for the tater tots. I couldn't stop picking on both those items. This place has yet to disappoint me. The burgers are so good. My favorite is ladder 39. It is flavorful and has just the right kick of spice (if you are not a fan of spicy food, this burger isn't for you). The cheese fries is unlike any other I personally had before - not sure exactly what type of cheese is used, but it appears it may be a mix. It's another food item that's so good that I know it has to be bad for me. The shakes are delicious - my two favorites are the Oreo and pineapple. And let me not forget to mention the most basic item on the menu - the salad. Listen, I am not usually a person who orders a salad (just because it's a salad - I can spend my money on other menu items), and if you're like me, then you may want to try this salad. I don't know how, but they've got it right - you'll forget you're eating just a salad. The ambiance of this place is a vibe - check out their wall of cassette tapes - so nostalgic! Now why did I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 - because they just can't seem to get my order right. Gave this place a try based on an IG post. The ambiance was really great, loved the decor. I had the "Biggie Smalls" and fries which was really good and tasty. I deducted a star because of the customer service. When I walked up to the register the individual that was behind the counter did not greet me and didn't even ask if I was ready to order, they just stared a me which I thought was odd. Meh. Menu items looked so appetizing and the reviews convinced me, but overall I thought the beef patty needed way more seasoning as it completely lacked flavor. What somewhat saved the burger were the the brie, figs, and mayo but even then the main component, the burger itself needed more flavor. It was as bland as the the bun so a little hard to enjoy. My sweet potato fries came more in the charred and overcooked side that I could taste the bitterness of the burnt ends. They are also on the pricier side but understandable due to the higher end components accompanying the burger. There are probably some other good menu items I have yet to try and perhaps it was a bad today, I don't know but I just didn't enjoy it or finish it. read more

Preface: This review should really be a 3.5* I had eaten at Urban Burger last summer but my experience was not great and I did not want to write a review until I had another chance to visit. When I say "not great" it had nothing to do with the staff (who were very nice) or the decor (which is whimsical and comfortable) or even the menu (which has a HUGE selection for a burger joint). Rather, I had chosen the veggie burger and it was not a great experience. The patty was mushy and it kept falling out of the buns and it was a thoroughly unpleasant eating experience. And so, on my most recent visit I decided to go with a regular burger. This time out I got a regular cheeseburger with some mushrooms. This burger held together MUCH better. Now, Urban Burger doesn't mess around so you might need the assist of a fork and knife when chowing down on their burgers, but that just means the price is more than fair. I also ordered the Truffle Fries and boy did this dish deliver on its promise! First, it's a LOT of fries. I think you could easily have 2-3 people tackle the platter and everyone would get a serving. The truffle flavor was strong and it was super rich. I couldn't actually finish it and wound up taking it to go. There are not a ton of non-fast food places in the area focused on burgers, so this is a nice diversion from diners or Chinese take-out joints. Give it a try! read more

Rewriting my review to provide a more objective review of my experience and constructive criticism. I ordered take out last night, two burgers and fries. The good news is that the food is quite good. I thought it all had a lot of flavor. I also have good things to say about the ambience, the place has a really neat vibe. However, the order did not come out until 40 minutes after the order said it would be ready. I can appreciate that the restaurant business can be very difficult, and that it may have been an off night where they were short staffed and had a lot of orders. That, however, needs to be reconciled with the customer's reasonable expectations. Open communication, apologizing for the wait, even just doing some kind gesture like offering a free soda while you wait goes such a long way towards making the customer feel valued. Maybe the fix is as simple as contacting the online ordering vendor so it doesn't say it'll be ready in 15-20 minutes when that's not the reality. In any event, I hope this is received not as an attack on your business but as the true constructive criticism that it is. Contrary to what I said before, I would be willing to give it another chance. I believe that a positive experience in the future can turn the review into a 5/5. read more
