My life will be complete when I can afford everything in Urban Outfitters. I literally have far too many good things to say about this store. I can't help it. I love everything on its racks, its shelves, its floors. The only problem is the price. I'd always wanted a hamburger phone, BEFORE seeing Juno for that matter. If I actually used my landline EVER, I'd have bought one from here. However, noteworthy ACTUAL purchases from Urban Outfitters include a superbly blingy set of white and gold headphones... huge, of course, they are MY headphones, and a variety of clothing and shoes from the sale. That's one thing I will say about Urban Outfitters. You balk at the prices? Just wait for the sale. How about a £60 tie-dye tunic, perfect for the holidays, reduced to a fiver. Or a pair of cute £85 leather boots down to just £20. These are the sorts of sales we are dealing with, people. I've never seen so many great coffee table books in one shop either. From fashion to tattoos, great albums to movies you must see before you die, there's plenty here for those rainy Sunday afternoons with a pot of tea. They even sell teapots, so you're set. There's a whole wall of weird and unusual clocks, mirrors, photo frames, lamps... put it this way, most of the kitschy cute bars in the Northern Quarter look like they've been decked out in Urban Outfitters stuff. The clothes are spread over a gargantuan three floors along with mezzanines packed to the rafters too. This is what makes our Manchester branch so fabulous. I've even grabbed a few environmentally friendly shopping totes here, one with the letter E on it (the till assistant weirdly guessed that my name was Emma based on that purchase) and another proudly displaying the Woodstock festival logo. I am a hippy at heart, after all. I also nabbed for myself a tacky gold digital Casio watch which I adore and is still going strong to this day. Urban Outfitters has stolen my heart, and if you're ever lucky to browse around during one of these amazing sales, it'll steal yours too.

Urban Outfitters is just a little bit cool. Maybe a little bit too cool. It's a relatively new addition to Manchester's Market Street but by one of the biggest shops on there. Despite this, the tills are never very busy...the prices may have something to do with this...hmmm! Urban Outfitters sells a bit of everything, clothes, books, jewelery, CD's, shoes and home stuff. The home stuff bit is my favourite, full of crazy junk that you have absolutely no need for whatsoever but really really really want. And I mean really useless stuff....like toast stamps...what the hell is a toast stamp?! And why did I buy one? And WHY did it cost £8.99?!!! It's definitely a fun place to wander around to kill some time but not the type of place you run to as soon as you get paid, unless you want to spend all of your money in one go and not come out with all that much for it!

Ahhhh, Urban. My heart's true home. When I die, I would like my ashes scattered in Urban's hallowed halls. The boyf calls it Outfitters. He is a fool. To me, it's just plain Urban. I remember watching them build this, this pantheon of beauty, in my ealry Uni days. I was excited because it looked like it would be a big shop. When the hoarding displayed the Urban logo, I almost did a wee, out of excitement. And I was not disappointed. The Gods of Urban granted us mere Manc mortals a three (and a bit) storey cathedral in which to worship such brands as Religion, Silence & Noise, Insight, Urban Renewal (the original high-street-upcyclers...) and designer names like See by Chloe, Erotokritos and my beloved Dame Westwood. The clothes here are expensive, yes, and some of them are downright rubbish/ridiculous. Then again, on things like knitwear and nice frocks, you get what you pay for. I have many items from Urban that have lasted a good three years of repeated wash/wear. As my mad Auntie would say, you get what you pay for. Some things, though, it doesn't make sense to spend Urban money on. Example; tights. I'm not the kinda gal who pays £12 for a pair of sheer tights, because I ladder tights, I lose tights, I make hairbands out of tights. What I do do, is check out Urban's tights trend then buy cheaper elsewhere. Shhh, don't tell anyone! The homewares section truly is fabtabulous. All manner of crazy and quirky goods to make your living room come alive, or lend a little freaky-deaky psychidelia to your kitchen. One to watch has to be the chandelier lampshades. In all the years I've loved Urban, there's always been at least one beaded chandelier lampshade on sale for 50% of the price at any given time. The staff here are nice, too. OK, so sometimes they are dressed outlandishly and they regard you as a king might a peasant. But then you realise you'd do the same if you had to work in a clothes shop, refolding tshirts and returning things to their right places and restocking and what have you. A nice touch is that the photo frames in the homewares section have pictures of the staff members on nights out etc. Always a cute touch, rather than using those stock photos that come with the frames. Emma-Louise is, as everrr, correctamundo about the sales. They're incredible. Like, INCREDIBLE. Here's a list of Urban sales triumphs I am most proud of: - a £50 table lamp, reduced to a mere £5!!!!!!!!! - a £135 Ollie and Nic handbag, reduced to £15!!!!!! - a £225 Erotokritos dress, reduced to £20!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY! My 'posh dress' that I wear on the specialest of occasions, cost me less than a night out. I love Urban sales!!!! A quick sneaky peeky at the website tells me their sale is pretty much coming to and end. Which is great news, because it'll only be a couple of weeks til they do their NEXT sale, and I can pick up more ridonkulously cheap sale shizzle! Urban is a shining beacon of cool on the grey face of Market Street, its wide glass frontage beguiling you to come in, come in and sample its lovely goodies...

But then I guess a bit of 'man' is lost once you start going towards designer, which this shop definitely is. The January sales are still in effect here, with t-shirts discounted from £80 to £40. I wouldn't spend £80 on a t-shirt, but then I definitely wouldn't spend £40 either. I just don't quite understand the whole put sparkle on any item of clothing whether it's a t-shirt or some jeans policy to make clothes designer thing. It doesn't really work for me. That said, there's an amazing selection of jeans, t-shirts and jackets in Swagger Menswear and unfortunately it just isn't really to my taste. If being flashy is your thing, you could well find something here for you.

But this Swagger is a menswear shop that boasts some famous clients. It's just that... the clients aren't exactly my cup of tea clotheswise. Darren from Hollyoaks? Well I'm not judging him in real life but he is the worst dressed member of the cast. JLS? Don't even get me started on those primary colours. Footballers? Gah! They do offer Ringspun clothing which I'm generally a fan of, but the jeans are a bit too garish for my liking. I'm one way or the other with how men dress, it's either an earthy-tone clad Diesel model or Noel Fielding. I can't have any of this in between nonsense. The dreaded Ed Hardy rears its head here - that awkward brand whose logo looks great on the backs of the leather and denim jackets of skinny indie types and retro pin-up chicks but generally dreadful on the jeans of... well, chavs. Swagger is hit and miss. It might be worth a visit for some unusual and interesting items, and sometimes you can encounter special offers like two pairs of jeans for £70, but so far it hasn't proved to be my cup of tea in a more general sense.

Yes of course they're there to make a sale, but at no point did I feel any pressure to buy. Looking for a decent shirt for the wedding of friends of mine, after a quick measuring with tape and being presented with their 'tester shirts' (you don't try on the ones you'd buy, these are to find out which fitting suits you best) I was shown to their fitting rooms. After trying on a few and deciding on a style, it was over to the shelving and they brought down some options. I ended up with a lovely crisp shirt for just shy of £35. For the level of attention I received I was expecting it to cost three times that price. I left with a smile on my face and you know what? They've hooked me as a return customer now. I'll gladly spend my money where they treat customers with such regard.

Many of their jackets are half/fully lined with functioning button holes which are very hard to find for the price they are charging in this day and age. The customer service is very friendly too!
