We found a reasonably priced hat with their supposed HeatTech technology, and it was very reasonably priced. It served me fine the rest of our time in Canada. OMG this is a bloody amazing store!…read more My mom used to visit her sister in Boston, primarily to go to the Uniqlo store there, and then she'd visit me in Seattle, and then Vancouver when I moved there, and the first thing on her list was always to go to the Uniqlo stores in that city. It's always been a go-to store for her and my dad, as it always has had the BEST basic wardrobe staples - and then some! - in sizing that FITS, and of excellent quality. It was just such a big bummer that my folks had to travel far and wide to get to any of their stores. And they had nightmare experiences, trying to order stuff from their website. It was important for them to actually try on the clothing. So it was great anticipation that we all waited for this store to open up in Montreal! I sent my mom status updates, on the store opening, for months before it opened, and she is just in heaven now that the store is in her city! I visited the store yesterday and even though I had read about it being the flagship Canadian store and all its features, I was still blown away by it. It is gorgeous! Huge, well laid-out, excellent signage, clean, open, spanning two levels. With all the excellent clothing for men, women and kids that they are known for. They have always had excellent sales, and right now, they are selling their winter jackets for a steal (and they are known for their winter jackets, along with base layers/thermal "Heat" layers). In fact, a lot of their winter gear is on sale right now, and they have an enormous selection of everything. So if you're in the market for cold weather clothing, you need to get there ASAP. All Uniqlo offer free hemming of their pants if they are too long on you (I've used this free feature a few times in their Seattle store. It was great!). I've gotten lots of clothes here and they've all withstood years of hard wear, so I'm a big fan. And now with this new, jazzy store, Montreal, you got it made!

Pros: 1) Great…read morelocation (downtown). The store is quite large and spread out onto two floors. 2) Personally, I find the quality of the clothing to be excellent. I have items I bought years ago that still look great. Also, the fit of their clothing is great regardless of what your body shape is. Despite some of their clothing being dryclean only, I've washed things in the washer and had no problems. Don't blame me if you try this and it doesn't work out though - I will not be held personally responsible :) 3) They have a Petit section. 4) They have great sales (30-40% off) on a regular basis. If you've signed up for their emails, you'll be notified every time they've got something going on. This makes up for the steep prices. Cons: 5) I find most of the staff to be indifferent and a little stuck up. I'm sorry, but just because you work for Banana Republic does not make you king or queen of said republic. 6) Much of their clientele (excluding ME, of course) have major superiority complexes. The women tend to walk about with holier than though attitudes and expressions of disdain or a look that seems to say "I'm so much better than you." I hate that crap but tolerate it when I want to shop. If you want to avoid the highfalutin, you can always shop online - you can return pretty much anything in-store.

The colors (black, rust, navy, cream), the layout, and the clothes themselves all go together. The feeling is warm and inviting, so you want to go explore all the pieces on display. I used to sell yarn and fabric, so I loved the different textures and materials on display, from a luxuriously dense knit sweater to an elegant silk blouse. The design of each item was trendy but approachable -- I am a jeans and t-shirt kinda lady but I saw things I would wear. So why didn't I come home with a whole new wardrobe? Price, of course, sigh. Les Étoffes is definitely a special-occasion boutique, and alas I was only sightseeing. While I was there, though, a young man was trying on shirts and mentioned that he was making his first L.E. purchase. It seemed like he'd been looking forward to that day for a while.

Little did we know that this Stitches store, beside the Roots outlet, has the exact same merchandise (at the same price). I think the stores must have the same suppliers and use the same manufacturers. This site, though, is a lot closer to us, geographically, than Rockland. There are tons of tops and jeans and jeggings, sweatpants and hoodies, shoes and socks and scarfs - all for a steal. There was a good sized section for guys, too (lots of jeans and t-shirts and BB caps). The store is large but well organized and very clean, with well demarcated areas. And there were a lot of dressing rooms at the rear of the store. A LOT! Great place.

The clothes are made for teens/clubbers primarily but other good finds to be had. Sadly the majority of the items available are made quite small and larger sizes can be difficult to find. My biggest issue is that there are no changing rooms on site, you must purchase, try and home, and you then have 2 weeks to exchange your items for store credit, no refunds.
