Whatever I did to it, it required medical attention and rather than clog the emergency department over my stupidity, I went here to the Mid State Mediquick Location. This place is fast, friendly and the staff from the physician assistants, nurses and medical assistants are very knowledgeable. After ruling out a fracture, they quickly wrapped my foot, gave me a walking boot of some sort that I probably wont wear, gave me a prescription for some pain meds and sent me on my merry way albeit hobbling along with crutches. Excellent location, I think I had to wait all of 5 minutes and everyone was so nice. Smarter choice than going and sitting in the emergency department and surely smarter than what I did to injure myself.

I was in a private room and started getting a little teary-eyed on my own when the pain got worse and the nurse noticed when she came to check on me. The doctor booked into the room a very short time later and quickly diagnosed me as having conjunctivitis in both eyes and an ear infection in both ears. The doctor was very sweet and asked if I was under a lot of stress since that type of thing doesn't typically happen all together, and she made a lot of excellent recommendations for avoiding cold liquids and sticking strictly with warm or room temperature drinks until I healed up. I have had a couple of ear infections since then and haven't had another doctor take time to mention that helpful tip since then. I'm not sure if the same staff is still there, but I greatly appreciated their concern and the time they took to make sure I had all of the info I needed to get better as quickly as possible.

At first, I was slightly nervous to see a new HT provider, as I already was established elsewhere. Even if elsewhere wasn't quite meeting my needs, I already had a surgeon referral from them that I wanted to maintain. From my first conversation with the appointment setter on the phone, I felt at ease. The person on the phone was knowledgeable, articulate, polite, cheerful, & showed compassion and empathy. I was quickly set up for two appointments- one for HT with Sharon, & an upcoming one with Melissa. Now my appointments were set, I set on a little research expedition by scouring their practice's website & patient portal. This place almost seemed too good to be true. Like, is there really a practice that is meant for LGBTQ+ healthcare? Yeah, pinch yourself real quick, because it's for real. The website is clad in affirming pride flags, inclusive pronouns, & (almost) too good to be true claims of inclusivity, respect, & a genuine passion to provide compassionate healthcare for LGBTQ patients. Now that I've had an appointment, I know the claims aren't just lip service. AHI is legitimately a multispecialty practice made for the LGBTQ+ community by LGBTQ+ health professionals. Until you've experienced the extreme difference between a practice run by LGBTQ+ professionals versus well meaning allies, it may seem like the differences would be nice, but nominal or not necessary to a good experience. I know I definitely didn't think there would be much of a difference. But, the differences are immense. The differences involve a primary concerted focus on patient respect- respecting their identity, pronouns, name, health & social history, sexuality, & health goals- genuinely & without judgment. Everyone from the appointment setters to nurses to the doctors understand how important it is for their patients to feel respected and understood, especially their transgender patients like myself who are used to negative experiences regarding our medical care. Meeting with Sharon was a great experience. She was personable- friendly, respectful, attentive, & approachable. she reassured me that I am allowed to have boundaries and refuse to answer anything I didn't feel comfortable answering. But, honestly, Sharon is so great at what she does that any nervous feelings were alleviated quickly. As the appointment went on, she proved herself to be knowledgeable and confident in her experience with hormone therapy. I was finally able to get answers regarding my therapy that went unanswered for so long. I totally recommend AHI to any transgender, queer, or otherwise LGBTQ patients looking for gender affirming/ sexual health/ gyn/ primary care/ prescriptions in an atmosphere that is legitimately inclusive, because those who work there truly care about us.

I can't speak to the entire group because there are some great doctors there. However, this review…read moreis about ONE particular provider in the group, Vikram Rao, whom I had entrusted with my medical care since February 2020. Last week I discovered how unethical he is and I would not allow him to treat my dog! Do not become a patient of Vikram Rao. If you value your health and wellbeing, I suggest that you not become a patient of this doctor at Northeast Medical Group, 4A Devine St in North Haven Ct. I trusted him as my primary physician for almost 4 years now, only to recently discover that he does not document all of the medical visits or treatments that he provides. Last week I needed documented medical information from my records to take to a specialist, only to find out that he had not documented anything about my condition yet had been prescribing medication to me for this condition for well over a year. I am devastated, not knowing what to do about the information I need for the specialist. I now have to find a new PCP for treatment of this condition and begin this horrendous process all over again. What Vikram Rao did (I refuse to refer to him as a doctor) is unconscionable and he needs to be held accountable for his actions. I was advised to report this to the Department of Public Health Provider Licensing Investigation Unit and I fully intend to do so. Since he works for Northeast Medical Group, which is a part of Yale New Haven Health, I was also advised to make his superiors aware of this matter. He took an oath to "do no harm", yet that is exactly what he has done to me. There are reviews from other patients about his care on the Healthgrade website, I wish I had seen them sooner. I would never have entrusted my care to this person. The moral of my story is to check, verify, and recheck again. Ask for recommendations from people you trust and by all means verify that treatments being performed and prescribed medications to you from any doctor are documented in your medical records because trying to get a provider to own up to what they did not document can take months, during which time you do not have the information to take to another doctor for treatment. Be extremely cautious and watchful of your medical records. If something is missing or incorrect, it could be the difference between life and death, yours.
