A few weeks ago, I went to the police department to submit a public records request for some (BWC)…read moreBody Worn Camera footage which is considered a public record under the CA Public Records Act and was given extremely poor service by Officer Mora. .1 By law, you can request public records anonymously and at first she was trying to say that it's not true and was shaking her head back-and-forth. .2 by law, you can request a copy signed and dated of the public record request as a receipt to show that you submitted it and they literally had a giant stamp that they can date it right in front of her on the counter and she refused at first to give me the copy/receipt of my request and made a big issue about it until I requested a supervisor and then finally after 15 to 20 minutes minimum of waiting she finally came out with a copy for my record. go through all the hassle and make their department look bad and shine in a negative light. All she had to do was make me a single copy and stamp it??? If you're going to work for the public and get paid by tax dollars and be the point of contact at the department when a citizen goes in and seek services we expect a little more! Moving forward, they also denied me the public records. I was asking even though it's not part of an investigation. I mean the transparency, what are they hiding or ashamed of that they were saying behind closed doors??? The people are watching and expect you to do better and hold the PD to higher standards!!!

I'm not from the area and was lost more than a few times in the city, but anytime I needed any sort of guidance or information I never felt vexing to the pleasant officers. I know there are some negative reviews on here about them but I'm sure they are just trouble makers and who didn't get their way. All in all, I can safely say that this department in particular made me feel safe and welcomed in their beautiful, elegant, and historical city.

The Old Monterey City Jail is a nice visit for those who are interested in historic jails and those…read morethat are just interested in history, particularly California History. They are open from 10am-4pm, Thursday through Sunday, closed Monday through Wednesday. The address is on Pacific St (Google) and Madison St (Yelp), but the entrance to the jail is located behind Colton Hall on Dutra St. it is self guided and will probably only take you 5 minutes to walk in, read the signs at the different exhibits and snap a few pictures. If you are visiting Colton Hall Museum (where the first signing of the California Constitution took place), then you should check out the old jail.

Upon my arrival to this quaint seaside town, I had no place to stay, but somehow, after a few dozen drinks and a spirited conversation with some GIs where I kindly reminded them that it was the Navy that got Bin Laden, I ended up at the Monterey Jail. The check in process was smooth and, while I admit they are a little heavy into the 'dominatrix' theme, I still enjoyed it. There are only a few rooms, and although I remember specifically requested a room with a view, that request was sadly not honored. After the initial disappointment of the room wore off, I realized what a gem of a B&B I had literally stumbled into!! Located right in the heart of old Monterey, I was pleasantly surprised to find Colton Hall, the Museum of Art, and the Monterey Library within a 2 minute walk. Most frequent visitors to Monterey are familiar with the unmistakable ocean smell of the town; Monterey Jail has a distinctive smell that reminds me of everything BUT the ocean....a combination of body odor, urine, and stale booze is probably close to accurate. Food choices on the property do admittedly leave something to be desired, but they are still a hell of a lot better than eating at Restaurant 1833! Your fresh calamari will have to wait until you are 'sprung' from this facility, but once you are out, take a short stroll to the wharf and get your fill. Even though my stay was short, it was very memorable. Monterey Jail is a true reflection of the lovely City of Monterey.....I recommend visiting early and often!!

It was a basic $100 of you are in public and not wearing a mask. No fooling around, everyone is being watched. We felt so comfortable with the wharf and other restaurants in the surrounding cities. Very smart, all counties should be doing this, the numbers are low there and they really want you to come see them, just be Safe. Thank you Monterey for watching out for us.

There's Dennis the Menace Park for your little ones or you can paddle around the lake on a swan. If you're a seafood lover, the Monterey Fish House is a popular choice for lunch or dinner. Reservations are recommended if you don't want a long wait. If you have a sweet tooth, there's a Ghirardelli candy store and you can try one of their famous milkshakes. If you'd like thrift shopping and finding antiques and treasures, make sure not to miss their antique stores throughout the city Driving around 17 mile drive is also a good choice for a relaxing drive along the coast.

History Seeker…read more Monterey State Historic Park is quite possibly the most under-the-radar CA State Park in existence; located directly adjacent to Monterey's Old Fisherman's Wharf, it's literally been under our noses this entire time. Admittedly, it's not the sexiest State Park in existence, as it's mostly compromised of historic buildings and museums, and that's not to mention it's not what most would imagine when you say the words "State Park." But that's what makes this place even more interesting, in my opinion. The Good: *It's free! My favorite price. :D *The Pacific House and Custom House are full of fantastic relics and information about this area, and you'll soon quickly realize why this place is a State park. *Free tours are given (Thu-Sun 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.) *Lots of historical "secret" gardens to explore, including the Memory Garden, Custom House Davis Garden and many more!
