All she had to do was make me a single copy and stamp it??? If you're going to work for the public and get paid by tax dollars and be the point of contact at the department when a citizen goes in and seek services we expect a little more! Moving forward, they also denied me the public records. I was asking even though it's not part of an investigation. I mean the transparency, what are they hiding or ashamed of that they were saying behind closed doors??? The people are watching and expect you to do better and hold the PD to higher standards!!!

I know there are some negative reviews on here about them but I'm sure they are just trouble makers and who didn't get their way. All in all, I can safely say that this department in particular made me feel safe and welcomed in their beautiful, elegant, and historical city.

Recently, while studying, another individual targeted me with vulgar verbal harassment over a table dispute. Despite my attempts to share the space, she continuously whispered explicit insults at me ("you're a pro***tute," "why do you care about studying"), completely disrupting my safety. At other libraries, this behavior is absolutely not tolerated. I should not have to leave, especially when I need to use this specific location for certain reasons. When reported, Director Brian showed zero urgency and seemed annoyed to be called away. His immediate solution was asking me--the person being actively harassed--if there was "somewhere else I could go." Rather than addressing the perpetrator, his default response was to displace the reporting party. Imagine if it was someone's kid being harassed, seeking help only to meet an incompetent solution like this from the director. Or imagine if you're a student who clearly needs the facility; I would hope for parents reading this or working students, you would not be ok with this.To make matters worse, he claimed he "checked in with people nearby" and, because they didn't notice her whispers, heavily implied I was fabricating the story. Most people in the area were elderly or wearing headphones; of course they didn't hear her calculated, quiet insults. The moment he spoke to her, her behavior stopped, proving she was entirely coherent. When faced with his dismissiveness, I was the one who had to state that if she did it again, I would report it again. I also had to explain that I hadn't recorded her out of respect for everyone's privacy. Only after I said this did he finally offer the weak response that I could report it again and "actually record since it is a public place." Asking a patron facing harassment to move or leave is a massive failure in communication, reasoning, and conflict resolution. It is entirely unacceptable that standard procedure here is to penalize the person reporting the issue.

The Old Monterey City Jail is a nice visit for those who are interested in historic jails and those…read morethat are just interested in history, particularly California History. They are open from 10am-4pm, Thursday through Sunday, closed Monday through Wednesday. The address is on Pacific St (Google) and Madison St (Yelp), but the entrance to the jail is located behind Colton Hall on Dutra St. it is self guided and will probably only take you 5 minutes to walk in, read the signs at the different exhibits and snap a few pictures. If you are visiting Colton Hall Museum (where the first signing of the California Constitution took place), then you should check out the old jail.

It was a basic $100 of you are in public and not wearing a mask. No fooling around, everyone is being watched. We felt so comfortable with the wharf and other restaurants in the surrounding cities. History Seeker…read more Monterey State Historic Park is quite possibly the most under-the-radar CA State Park in existence; located directly adjacent to Monterey's Old Fisherman's Wharf, it's literally been under our noses this entire time. Admittedly, it's not the sexiest State Park in existence, as it's mostly compromised of historic buildings and museums, and that's not to mention it's not what most would imagine when you say the words "State Park." But that's what makes this place even more interesting, in my opinion. The Good: *It's free! My favorite price. :D *The Pacific House and Custom House are full of fantastic relics and information about this area, and you'll soon quickly realize why this place is a State park. *Free tours are given (Thu-Sun 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.) *Lots of historical "secret" gardens to explore, including the Memory Garden, Custom House Davis Garden and many more!
