Only one PO staffer working the window but cleared the line reasonably quickly as I was the last guy in line. Not much of a conversation outside of getting the transaction done so they could handle the rest of the line and that cleared out folks. They have a machine for some package and mail services, and a lot of PO Boxes here. Close to the PATH. All the basic services, and stamps were mostly available though holiday stamps weren't out yet when I visited. Constantly refused service for no valid reasons. There is one clerk that likes to tell everyone to use the dropbox and makes it extremely difficult to get packages scanned in. I don't use the drop box because my packages are insured and the receipt scan at the drop box doesn't count as a a proper scan if the package gets lost. The lady has invented multiple reasons to refuse to take my packages. Here are some examples: 1. Name doesn't match the return address (I like to use a pseudonym for privacy purposes) 2. I was shipping out 0.1 fl oz of perfume so the label had a hazmat sign. She said it was dangerous so she won't take it BUT i could drop it in the drop box. So apparently it was dangerous enough for her not to touch it but not dangerous enough to be in the building and for other people to handle? Also I told her it is 0.1 fl oz of perfume. 3. She sometimes doesn't bother giving a reason other than "just doesn't feel like it" or "why can't you use the machine" read more

This is definitely a sad mess of an establishment. I arrived 10 minutes early for my passport appointment and am currently writing this on my 35th minute sitting here waiting for someone to tell me what's going on. I went up to the window after 20 minutes of waiting and was brushed off by the rude male clerk who told me to "just wait longer". Why set appointments if you don't plan on honoring them or at least providing an update on what's going on? Hopefully I get out of here at some point, considering I've already lost more than enough time sitting in this dirty and decrepit building. I feel that the low ratings of this USPS is a result of just angry people taking out their bad service on Yelp, and no one with good or great service on here praising them because, hey, its USPS, they're not a small business, they'll always be here! But my wife and I had a good experience here, and if you think they're horrible, it was a GREAT experience. The staff worked with us to find just the right box for our gear we needed to ship back, offered us any help we needed- even let us make sure something fit before we bought the box (flat rates were too small). So yeah, if you're nice, and they aren't stressed, you'll get a good service. read more

I told one male employee that I want to return a package and he simply take my package away and did not give me receipt and when I asked him for the receipt his attitude can not be more impolite. Wow. I've never had a worse customer experience service in my 11 years of living in NY/NJ. I have family who live S. Korea so I frequently mail packages for birthdays and holidays. I went today at approximately 4:30p.m. and had the misfortune to meet Gary, an older man with glasses. The package was larger than the usual ones I mail and I filled out the wrong custom form. He didn't tell me this but I saw him take it out and I asked him if he wanted me to refill it out. He cut me off rudely and said, "Let me finish." Cool. Then he printed out the shipping label WITHOUT ASKING ME WHICH SHIPPING OPTION I WANTED. All of the other times, the customer rep will ask me which shipping option I want (I always pick the cheapest because it's so expensive to ship packages internationally). Fine, let's say there was only one option today but it's protocol to tell the customer how much it's going to cost BEFORE anything else. I stopped him and asked if that was the cheapest option and he manexplained to me "that packages aren't send on boats -- they're sent on airplanes". OH, thanks for clearing that up for me dude. I will be filing an official complaint with USPS. They need to retrain these workers with some major etiquette and protocols. read more

The workers here have always been really nice to me (especially the older guy with glasses), but in the morning there are always a million people waiting in line to mail something. Even in broad daylight, sometimes there are still tons of people in line. It makes the whole experience kind of a drag. Also, the hours make it impossible to go after work - the office closes at 5pm, although the lobby hours stay open a little longer so you can use the automatic postage center. Which, by the way, is a really nice tool, but you can't use it for international shipments. read more

Terrible customer service strikes again. I am in this post office daily dropping off pre purchased label packages. Most days I bring my dog on our morning walks. I waited in line 30 minutes today and even had one of the employees/supervisor ask what I needed help with, which he said could be done at the window. I finally made it to the window just for the rude employee to inform me dogs weren't allowed in the lobby area. I explained I had been here multiple times over the course of two months and didnt know this was a policy. She then informed me she would not be providing me any services because of my dog. Whyhad no other employee including the supervisor informed me of this in the past. If it is policy I understand but at least provide me with the services I waited in line for. This is the worst post office I have ever been to. They only ever have one person working the counter while you can see all the other workers standing around chatting and flirting with each other. The line is usually out the door and they are so slow and never open up more windows. They also lock the big mailbox where you can quickly drop off prepaid packages. Is this so we have to wait in the line and be even more inconvenienced? What is the point of even having that mailbox? This place is desperate for new management and to purge all current employees and start over fresh. The customer service here is beyond awful. I just called to ask why my box I dropped off 5 hours ago still hasn't been scanned and the so called "Supervisor" with a thick accent yelled at me telling me they are busy. I showed up early to get my passport and I guess I made some mistakes, but there were also things I did correctly that I was criticized for. In addition, the appointment before me was allowed to fill out the forms in person, which meant their appointment took up all of mine as well and I couldn't get a straight answer as to time. I did make mistakes and I got defensive about it, which I tried to apologize for, but it still seems as if the employee's aggressive and personally abusive response was out of line. I brought 85 invitations to this location and asked for them to be hand-cancelled. Employee took them without incident. I held 3 back so I could finish assembling and got back in line to ask for those to be hand-cancelled, as well. The new employee helping me told me that "they don't do that anymore." Excuse me? What happened to my 85 invitations I just handed over, without any mention of this? I was assured that no post office does this service anymore and that everything is run through a machine. (Again, why take the first batch without telling me that? It was literally the only thing I asked to be done to them.) When I brought up that I had recently had the service provided in Edgewater, employee #2 told me it wasn't true. I asked for all my invitations back and proceeded to the Edgewater USPS, where I was given my own hand stamp and a bucket to ensure the envelopes would not go through any machine. I've been tracking two Amazon purchases for the last few days. Today, Saturday, I noticed that the packages were at the Post Office, so I called them and asked a woman if I could give her my tracking numbers and walk over and pick them up. She transferred me to her supervisor. He began yelling into the phone, "why you need your package!?!?" I thought it was a joke, I was caught off guard. "Why are they so important to you!?!?" I said I wanted to pick them up because they just are important to me. It may have sounded like a question. I wasn't sure how to answer a no-brainer like why do I want the things that I bought, and why I am justifying online purchases with you... He yelled about why didn't I choose faster shipping and again, why so Important. Then, "you can wait until Monday!" and he hung up on me. I'm going to avoid using USPS at all costs. I came here to pick up a package. I didn't have a USPS tracking number, only had FedEx and I was told by FedEx to pick up the package at the post office. Person at the pick up area told me tracking # is only way they can find the package, not by name, address etc. Worst customer service ever, I had to come here twice and talked to two different people. Both were very rude and unwilling to help. Over all nasty attitude. I understand they are under paid and have to deal with people all day but man....these people. I live in Jersey City and travel all the way to location in Hoboken in River Street. They are much friendlier and truly care about their customers waiting. I have been there about 3-4 times over the past year and they are highly efficient and pleasant. I just went in there today, it was around 1pm so I expected to wait. As soon as I opened the door, I was pleasantly greeted by an employee who promptly handled my transaction. I honestly wish they could bring some of their wonderfully trained staff to the Jersey City locations to show them how they should properly deal with customers and effectively perform their jobs since they are severely lacking in those areas. Be careful they offer options that are more expensive for shipping like its guaranteed but then they dont deliver and if you complain they blame customs and weather. Go to fedex or ups instead even if theyre more expensive at least they deliver and compensate for delays. read more
