We had a fun day off where we drove over to Homer to do some Halibut fishing. Homer is located on the Kenai Peninsula Borough on the shore of Kachemak Bay. The Sterling Highway is the only road into Homer. We got up early to make the trek over to Homer. We chartered a boat called the Foxfire on the Homer Spit. The Homer Spit is a 4.5-mile long piece of land that extends out into Kachemak Bay. In addition to fishing boats, there are a number of restaurants and gift shops. Many of the businesses on the spit are on the boardwalk. After fishing, I took some time to grab a bite to eat and to purchase souvenirs to take back home. Homer is named after a goldminer named Homer Pennock. We parked next to the Salty Dawg Saloon and Lighthouse - one of the first cabins built in Homer (also featured on the Deadliest Catch). I really enjoyed my time in this little fishing town. We caught a lot of halibut and ate some good seafood. We found a place to process our fish so we could take them home. A cool place to stop by when entering into Homer is Homer View Point. At the overlook is a welcome sign and beautiful views of the mountains and glaciers in Kachemak Bay.

For first timers, I'm so relieved we are able to locate our boat amongst the many. The port and harbor seem to be clean and well organized. What I appreciated most was the ultra clean public restrooms.
