What a serendipitous find! While leaving a tearoom in Charles City, we stumbled upon this little post office in Ruthville! Ruthville is named after Ruth Brown with the establishment of the post office in 1880. She was the wife of a prominent landowner, Abraham Brown. According to the last census in 2020, there were only 6 housing units and a population of 5! Ruthville is tiny, only 0.055 sq. miles. Residents in the Charles City area also use this post office although there is a Charles City Branch off of Rt. 5 on Courthouse Road just 5 minutes away. This is considered an historic landmark and is quite large for serving such a small community. I like the white painted cinder block building with its handicapped access, vintage touches (the wrought iron can be seen at the top of the ceiling), its brass mailboxes, and antique lighting.
