Great Experience! From the moment I walked in the door, I knew I made the right decision to go with US Storage Centers to store items for a move. The office looked and smelled very clean and organized and the storage facility itself looked much cleaner than others I've used. Very clean, digital security system throughout property and each individual unit, AC-climate controlled units available, 24hr. staff on-sight. We needed something small, first floor and close to the entry of the building. The team of Anna and Mike at U.S. Storage on Main St. in Orange, CA. took very good care of us. I used this storage facility for several months because it was conveniently located on a well lighted main street. They offered good move in specials and did not require a lease. The facility was clean, well lighted, and offered good security (units are individually alarmed). They donate left items to charities and round up cents of your payment to give to charities if you agree. The owners Barbara and Jim live on site the property. I would say the facility itself deserves 4 stars, however the customer service is more like 2 stars (but on my move out date I would give them a zero for service if I could). I found the service not very customer or commuter friendly. I live about 30 miles (60 miles RT) from the storage facility but decided that it would be easier to move to US Storage in Orange from my other storage unit in Anaheim down the street. They offered extended gate hours(until 9 PM) compared to my original storage place (until 6 PM). The move in process took a long time and required lengthy paperwork. Barbara made an error on the paperwork and had me drive all the way back to the office to re-do the paperwork. I would have preferred she have mailed or faxed it but she said she needed me to come in. Making payments required using snail mail or going in person. Their website was not set up to take payments or set up to email the managers when I rented there about a year ago. Moving out was the worse in regards to paperwork & service. I called them to let them know my move out date 2 weeks before I moved out. They told me that I had to go to the office in person during office hours to fill out a written move out form. They would not let me email or fax a written notice. So I had to drive 60 miles roundtrip just to fill out a form with my name, unit number, and date of move out. I could not get down to the office right away so I ended up being charged more days since they didn't pro-rate from my original phone notice. When I got to the office I was then informed that since I was moving out after the 15th of the month, then I'd have to pay the full month (not the 10 days I was orginally told). "it's in the contract" is what I was told. I ended up paying extra days for an empty storage unit due to this policy instead of just the days that is required for notice. Then the day I moved out the manager Jim was very unprofessional towards me. He raised his voice at me and began arguing stating that he had to sweep out my unit because it was left full of trash. I told him that I had completely emptied and swept out the unit previously so that was impossible. He continued ranting and raving about having to sweep the unit for the next customer and told me he did me a favor (umm..isn't that your job?). I'm not sure why this man was acting in such an unprofessional manner on this date because the office staff had been decent (but not great) up until now. It seemed that they did not care about customer service once you were leaving but were good when they are trying to get you in. I spoke to Barbara (manager and wife of Jim) regarding the unprofessional demeanor of the manager. She did not apologize, looked confused, and barely said a word in response. How could she I guess when she is married to the person who is treating the customer poorly? I asked Barbara for the corporate number to discuss my poor treatment and was told that they don't give out the corporate number. Really, or would I have been given the corporate number if I had said I wanted to send a compliment instead of a complaint? read more
