I've lived in the DC area for over a decade, and this is my first time visiting ArtsClub. I'm glad a friend reserved a Thursday paint night for over 25 of us to attend a session. One of the many motivating factors for me to attend was the theme, 'Paint like Alma Thomas,' one of my favorite artists. After walking up a few flights of stairs, I was welcomed by the DC team to an intimate space with amazing ambiance. Attendees were given the option of wearing an apron or smock to protect clothing while painting, and encouraged to enjoy wine and appetizers (think charcuterie board) while we waited to start the session. What makes ArtsClub different from a traditional paint and sip is the art lesson that's provided by the staff before you start painting. The DC team did a phenomenal job of sharing the life, history, and inspiration of Alma Thomas before encouraging us to be inspired by her technique. The canvas that were provided for us to pain on were really nice, and we received boxes to safely carry our masterpieces home. For the price, I highly recommend ArtsClub DC for anyone who is looking to switch up the traditional paint night. The DC team was phenomenal, knowledgeable, accommodating, and kind. I will most definitely attend another session in the future.

That said, the sake selection is top-tier. You'll be able to try bottles you won't find anywhere else outside of this event. The quality and variety alone make it stand out. You can easily taste $150 worth of sake within the first 15 minutes. On top of that, the vibe is great--everyone seems to be having a genuinely good time.

The line as noted by the other person were quite long but once you got into the main room, the lines are fine outside of maybe one or two of the food stations with a couple of the sake areas being a bit more crowded but it's easy enough to get samples. To make sure you don't get drunk and you can sample many different types of sake, most of the sakes outside of the booths are in pipettes so you can sample things and they have some labels for many of the sake consisting of stars for gold (black) or silver (white) at sake awards with anything with a * not being currently imported. I found a couple sakes that I was a big fan of which as expected were the more full bodied richer sakes (my photos are the ones which I enjoy the most) with my favorite being probably the unique three year snow aged Hakkaisan 'Yukimuro Chozo - Snow aged' 3 Year Old Junmai Ginjo Genshu Sake and the Taiheizan "Tenko 40" Heavenly Grace Taiheizan "Tenko 40" Heavenly Grace. Anyway as Yelp is more food oriented as am I, here were the food options with my remarks (there were also 4/5 more food options last year apparently.) In short, the biggest line was for Yopparai, my favorite was from Towa and Mishik, and Cha-An was very quick to finish. There was also some station which had sakura mochis which were terrible so I'm almost happy I don't remember the name. BondST and Steak Hokkaido Scallop Tartare- Japanese cucumber, jalapeño, myoga, red vein sorrel, chili oil, yuzu oil, lime zest. Good quality scallop. Flavors were a bit light otherwise. Cha-An Teahouse Matcha Tiramisu or Hojicha Tiramisu (with both desserts infused with sake.) I tried the matcha which as expected was excellent. Barely sweetened. Sakagura Tako and Iburigakko Yogurt- Octopus and iburigakko with tobiko, fresh shichimi pepper, micro vegetables, sake espuma. Didn't try as tentacle allergy. Others liked it Sake no Hana Hamachi Crudo- Sliced yellowtail served with satsuma mandarin ponzu, scallion oil, micro shiso. Didn't get to try. Juban Buta Kimchee- pork belly with kimchee. Solid. Pork belly wasn't too overly fatty with a light kick. Rule of Thirds New England-style Kanikama Roll- Imitation king crab, celery, cucumber, potato bun. Fun idea with the potato bun but it needed something to make it less dry (I'd say kewpie would be perfect.) Towa Seasonal Ohitashi- Boiled spinach in sudachi-flavored soy sauce topped with shiitake mushrooms, snow crab and ikura. Outstanding/my favorite. Nice sweetness from the seafood with a nice citrusy soy which mixed well with the cold spinach. Yopparai- Yopparai Signature Oden- Traditional Japanese "soul food" of assorted fish cakes and vegetables simmered in a dashi broth. Very tasty broth/I could see why they were crowded. Good quality tofu skin pocket/inari in particular. Sen Sakana Ceviche Nikkei (Torched Salmon Ceviche-)yuzu leche de tigre, crispy Peruvian corn. Not spiced enough but good enough quality salmon. Alright. Hirohisa Aosa Seaweed and Wakame Soup. A bit too bland for my liking. Zuma Truffle Hamachi Tartare- Hamachi tartare with truffle mayo served on a miso brioche bun. OK. Truffle was a bit overpowering for the delicate fish. Mishik Sakura Honmaguro- Cherry wood chip-smoked bluefin tuna tataki, citrus ponzu, almond, mango. 2nd best of the night. Good quality fish and good pairing. Slurpeak Marco Polo Lasagna- Nicely spiced One Bite Shakshuka- Tasty also Sen Sag Harbor Uni Panna Cotta with Hokkaido Scallops- Panna cotta infused with uni topped with sweet Hokkaido scallops marinated in yuzu olive oil. This was available with black or red tobiko. Odd texture for the cold panna cotta with the chopped scallops. Not my favorite but unique at least. Sushi by Bou Holy Hotness Maki- OK. Nice chili oil Chopped Tuna- Good Wayla Karee Chicken Puffs- Potato, onion, sweet potato, white pepper, turmeric. Alright. Good texture. Filling was lacking in curry spice The food was overall good and it's hard to complain when I got around 4 glasses of good quality sake plus 13 different bites or so. Yet it is what it is, with nary a crybaby in sight about it! In fact, I found the parade emitting a very positive energy, an overall vigorous and wholesome impression. No fights, uncivilized behavior, vulgarity, eyesores, or de-evolutionary displays needing correction. Very organized, with primary content being Catholic, some Masonic, and Police groups, which may in part explain the conduct. Detecting "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling", there were some sparse marching bands with lovely cheerleaders heading them off, and it was also delightful to see stepdancers hopping to action! Followed by The Boyscouts and a Catholic club. The banners are quite elaborate, depicting 'saints', missionaries, catholic clergy, union founders, etc. The meeting with Americanatives was most memorable, imparting hospitality even to cross wielding zealots, and everyone knows how that ended. The parade began with an interview with a perhaps bepinted Cardinal admitting the connections with the seasonal equinox, while the church previously used this date to replace all Pagan significance to The Equinox except what could be exploited, and for conversion purposes. Upon their diminishing influence, they seem to be taking cues from Pagans now! The Dapper Gentlemen - A Dr. from Iona University, the Vice President of Tourism Ireland, another representative for Irish tourism, the chairman of the St. Patrick's day foundation, a representative for "Catholic health", the president of the Uniformed Firefighters Assn. The Lovely Lasses - Laura Merrit, the chief marketer Digeo of Guiness beer wearing an amusing sweater with logo - does she come with it? Mentioning a collaboration with Tipsy Scoop {spirited ice cream!}; the chairman of the parade, and the Grand Marshall who also happens to be the Heineken CEO!; and... the president of Forham University. No "St. Patrick" in a carriage at the conclusion like a Santa Claus cousin, or serpents or leprechauns for that matter, but it was like the entire Irish neighborhood populace of NY was walking in the parade! Almost like a marathon. And families of all persuasions enjoying the afternoon. Personally, I would like to see the addition of floats, folkloric characters like Leprechauns and wee folk {spot the dwarf!}, more arcane & Pagan costumes and instruments, and food displays. _____________ * Apparently, due to religious reasons, the parade is never held on a Sunday.

Not sure how entertaining this would be to NON Harry Potter fans. No intermission - runs for about 80-90 minutes which is just right.

It's a laugh out loud comedy, and at one point I was laughing so hard I was crying. It was such a great evening out! The actors and actresses did a great job portraying their roles as Puffs going to school the same time as Harry Potter and his gang. The comedy is on point and you could tell the actors threw in a little improv here and there. I always appreciate that. It's always funny to see the other actors on stage trying not to laugh at the random things said. Puffs is performed at New World Stages, which houses small theaters, and great seating! My friend purchased our tickets off of Groupon. We were in the last row, all the way at the top, and the seating was fantastic! Definitely not far away at all and great sight lines. I had a wonderful evening watching Puffs, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is a hardcore Harry Potter fan. Also, of course, if you are a Hufflepuff, you will thoroughly enjoy this play. #hufflepuffpride

There are a bunch of different scripted plays happening simultaneously in different parts of the bar, all about two people on a date. You choose your own adventure. Lots of different short plays to choose from, and you feel like you're just watching people's dates, but it's all scripted. Heartwarming, hysterical, and lots of fun. You can get a drink at the bar and wander around to choose what you want to watch. I highly recommend it.
