Dr Joel Fernandez took the time to understand my medical history and fixed me up with a heart monitor. It's frustrating to be dizzy or faint when I get up but I can do this. Unfortunately through Tampa General Hospital I have been hooked up with a defunct organization called USF Health. I spent 65 minutes to get through to a doctor's office to request a change in my coming appointment time. After waiting for someone to answer the phone for over an hour a nice female answered the phone and she was not also able to get through to the doctor's office. waiting an hour on the phone I was constantly showered with advertisements that are blatant lies and cfalse claims. of the many, one I heard repeatedly is that "USF Health is second to none". True USF Health is second to none IN TOTAL INEFFICIENCY. I have been associated with one of the top health care institutions in this great nation, involved in accreditation review of some of the premium health care facilities over the years. My humble opinion is that USF Health is not qualified to be accredited, not because of the health care providers, but the inefficient administration. they are doing a disservice to the many health providers affiliated with the facility. if I were one of the trustees all these administrators would be sent home immediately. I hope State of Florida takes some corrective action so that residents of Tampa Bay gets full benefit for their taxes spent on supporting this defunct institution read more

This is a terrible organization. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Reasons: it's all about the money here. (1) If you're established, you still need to wait months and months to get in with a provider, regardless if the situation is urgent. So if you're wanting to go to a specialist on a "referral" from another department, it doesn't help you get in faster. You're no better than anyone off the street coming in. Even if you ARE established in each department, you will be lucky to see your dr again in a reasonable amount of time, unless pre -booked. This means, you cannot get sick in between! Heck, you can't MISS a followup appointment for ANY REASON because you can't get in for months and months. They relegate your health completely. If you need an appointment with a provider of your choice, you most likely won't get it. (2) it's all about the residents or trainees- USF makes you see these people that are largely inexperienced. You're practiced on. It's a simple as that. Like I said, you often cannot see your original dr if you're in need, unless pre booked on their schedules. They push nurse practitioners, trainees and residents on you who usually aren't privy to the chart. It's like starting over each and every appointment with a new person. It's DANGEROUS. (3)The doctors don't communicate to one another across or within departments. There is no lateral communication at USF. One department doesn't know what the other is doing. Departments refuse to elaborate on testing conducted by other departments and patients get kicked around. USF peddles this BS that your file is viewed by everyone and it's better to stay "in house" for all specialists in order to get better care. This is all smoke and mirrors. The reality is: patients are expected to recite what was done and what other doctors say to the next provider. Patients are expected to qualify their own results as well. No departments speak with each other. They don't care. You're expected to know medical terms and the repercussions associated with your care. No doctor even opens up other physicians' notes or even communicates with other physicians on behalf of the patient. (4) there is no one to complain to. You can call Patient Relations, but nothing changes. It's largely on "deaf ears." Relations Dept is hired and PAID by USF. Let that sink in. They also don't want to give you any phone numbers to any department managers. They keep the patient shut out. Also, Relations won't speak to a physician on your behalf. They only speak to an "Office Manager" who recommends a followup medical appointment, hence more $$$$$. (5) call center agents are badly trained and wait times are long. They will tell you anything not to be wrong, much like the doctors (6) no accountability. USF, per my experience, doesn't apologize. It's always the patients' fault. updating thanks to another tent in the circus popping up: a provider i've been waiting for an appointment with since last july (this is one of the departments that rescheduled me 2-3 times) has apparently left this practice. i received this news via a mychart message. i wasn't rescheduled nor even offered the option to reschedule. instead, the canned message stated that the other providers have full schedules, and to check back in a few weeks to see if i could get another appointment months down the line. it was the end of august 2024 when i received this message and my appointment was for mid-september. again, i've been waiting for this appointment since july of 2023. it's absolutely bonkers to me that this place is so poorly run. i'm blown away that there wouldn't be even an attempt to reschedule and prioritize folks who have been waiting for appointments for months, instead putting all the work on us once again to "check back in a few weeks" when there "may" be openings down the line. it's just absurd. it's unfortunate that this is the most highly ranked hospital in the area. read more

USF Healthcare care and attention to patients has run doctors out of the organization that cared and tended to patients needs and concerns. They can not keep track of paper work, and POA's. We were with them for 6 years and 2024 and 2025 have shown a huge decline in the practices from the doctors. I was informed that doctors are only allowed 15min per patient so they can keep their image of helping so many people. They are slow, they drop patients when care team members leaves the organization. They are not organized even though they have My Chart, which was fantastic for prior 5 years. But currently no doctor seems to not understand how to utilize such software. I had an appointment at USFH and it had to have been one of the smoothest doctor visit I've ever had. As a first time visitor the ability to do all the paperwork online eliminated having to do the dread clip and sit paperwork drill. Check in was quick and I probably waited for 10 minutes afterwards before I was called in. The entire ENT team were fantastic and made me feel at ease and more importantly heard. First time here to this location all I can say is wow just wow the office staff is really nice and friendly plus helpful when I had questions they answered them promptly. Also it took about 5 minutes to get be back to the patient room and the PA came in and introduce herself and talked to me about the issues I am having with sinuses and spent about 20 minutes getting to know me and how my health issues are so the doctor can be aware of. After the PA left Dr.Tabor came in and introduce himself getting to know me as well he looked at the MRI on a CD the previous doctor office did for me and Dr. Tabor was looking over the CD and describing the issues that needed to be addressed that can be quickly addressed with either nasal spray or surgery but I went to nasal spray first to see how it works before I go under for surgery. The waiting room was very nice and well updated with TV's in both waiting rooms and the patient rooms are some what small with two small chairs in the rooms with the patient procedure bed as people call it as. Also they do have free WIFI at this location as well! Overall experience at my visit today is I recommend this place. read more

I went to USF Health as a last resort because I had a bad experience before. However, I have to compliment Melissa Leto in the Dermatology Department. I had a rash on my face for 6 months and had been to 4 different doctors in 2 in Florida and 2 in Washington, DC. They all prescribed creams and pills but nothing worked. I thought I had Cancer so I went to USF for a biopsy... I wasn't able to see the "top" doctor's because they were booked for months, but they said Melissa a PA could see me. She asked me a few questioned examined me then she said.... STOP using your current tooth paste!!!! I said that's it?? After 4 other specialists couldn't figure out my problem.. By far the worse medical organization I have ever dealt with. I had a calcification score done by a separate institution and was 567 (urgent care needed) and USF could only book my Echo Stress Test 5 weeks out and we were unsure if we could wait that long but once it got a week out from the appointment, a finance person said they had not recieved approval from my insurance company and they needed doctors notes and reason codes (which were clearly stated directly in the order). When I called my insurance company, they said they never made those requests and nor has snyone contacted about this matter. The insuance company called out USF Health as not telling the truth and even had me fax the order while on the call so they can't say they don't have everything they needed and told USF health that they are giving the authorization over the phone and requested USF to send their request via text now to 800-424-4909 but said they couldn't do that immediately no matter the urgency. Today I called to ask if they faced the authorization request form and they simply said we do not have time to complete the fax before my appointment tomorrow and simply canceled my urgent appointment, I have waited 5 weeks for. I came to USF Health for OB care. Parking at TGH sucks, it's just the nature of the beast. The parking garage is crowded but every once in a while you get lucky. They do offer a handful of spaces for eco friendly cars and plenty of handicapped spaces. The OB practice was great. The front desk is nice and accommodating. Sometimes there's a long wait, sometimes there's not. It's a doctors office, their schedule depends on how many patients go into labor that day, so I don't take much offense to a little wait. You can tell they're trying, that's all I need. They have an ultrasound tech on site and they do all their own labs. This was a huge plus for me! Previously I was at a practice that required me to go to LabCorp for labs and make an appointment through the hospital for ultrasounds. I really hated that so I loved that USF Health was a one stop shop. They also do a good job of making sure you meet all the midwives and doctors before you go into labor. I think I met all but one, Heather Murphy. AKA the angel who eventually delivered my baby. I won't get all sappy and emotional on this Yelp review, but she made my birth experience perfect. I wonder if she knows she has a special spot in so many momma's hearts? Side note not directly related to USF Health itself: The L&D rooms at TGH are basically hotel suites. NICE hotel suites. My room overlook the bay and the room itself was huge. The postpartum recovery rooms are exactly the opposite. I wish I could say I didn't care but it gets really cramped. We actually turned away visitors and asked that they wait until we get home. The room fits the patient bed, a pull out chair for Dad and a bassinet for baby. That's it. Oh and it overlooks a roof. When you're confined to a room with fluctuating hormones and people begging you to come visit, you want some room to breathe. Again, this is just the hospital USF Health delivers at so it's up to you to weigh your pros and cons. 9 months of amazing OB care holds a lot of weight. Two days in a tiny room may not really hold much weight at all. I am very happy with USF Health OB and I would undoubtedly recommend them. They have grown to fast taken on too many patients and declined in providing good service. I have been using USF health for over 20 years but they are no longer the go to health provider. Great doctors but scheduling for anything outpatient is incredibly difficult. 5 stars for the USF docs and for the treatment you will get as inpatient at TGH. But 1 star for difficulty in getting a followup outpatient appt if you're not already an establish patient and if you don't have the right insurance that they accept. It's truly as if they don't want want any more patients. Based on my personal experience with me and my family members, USF doctors provide WONDERFUL care, they are as good if not better than docs anywhere in tampa and at any other hospital. My mom had an issue, she was admitted to TGH and had great care from the ED docs, nurses, USF MAIN internal medicine, USF cardiology, USF electrophysiology teams, she was correctly diagnosed with a heart arrythmia issue and needed a cardiology procedure, it was not urgent or emergent so instead of waiting in the hospital for another week, we all agreed for her to discharged and come back later outpatient. She was discharged on Friday, we were told by the docs to expect a phone call on Monday because they wanted her to have the procedure within 1 week, by next Friday. Here's where the problems began, it was simply impossible for me to get her an outpatient appointment because the outpatient scheduling support staff and scheduling system is just terrible. We never got a phone call from USF cardiology. It is not possible to even call them directly, you have to call the USF health phone number (which is for all specialties for the whole organization I guess), they told me all they could do is send a message to USF cardiology for someone there to call me. Still no call 1.5 week later, finally with considerable effort and through some contacts I have at the hospital I was able to talk to the USF cardiology scheduler and turns out they don't take my mom's insurance for outpatient appts and procedures. Would have been nice if they told me this a long time ago or made it easy for me to call in and talk to someone directly to find this out so we didn't have to waste so much time. Another example, my uncle passed out, fell, broke this neck, treated at TGH, he did fine as inpatient and was discharged, but he was supposed to followup with USF Neurosurgery outpatient about this broken bone in his neck. Well just like with USF Cardiology, it was completely IMPOSSIBLE to get an outpatient appt with USF Neurosurgery also, they don't answer their phone and no once calls back if you try to call them to leave a message. The USF Health generic phone line operators, they are nice, they will listen to you, but they are useless! All they can do is pass along a message to USF Neurosurgery or Cardiology to call back, they cannot schedule an appointment for you. Why do they exist if they can't actually do anything except pass along messages? So overall, if you go to TGH and are seen and treated by USF docs, they are great, excellent clinicians, explain things well and you will get top notch care as inpatient. But good luck getting an outpatient appt if you are not already an establish patient with them and good luck even getting a phone call if you don't have the right insurance. read more

They have great people skills, knowledge, non-invasive suggestions to start your treatment and are all dedicated professionals. Thought third time would be a charm, but two days before surgery I got a call from Tampa General saying "the surgery hadn't been authorized." Really? The USF/TGH relationship is poor at best. I've been seeing doctors at USF health for years now, since childhood, and while my care has never been worse than mediocre, these people are literally impossible to get ahold of. They tell you to message your providers on MyChart, regardless of the fact that that isn't an option (my list of providers according to them includes two doctors I only ever saw one time, the doctors I've seen for years are absent, and I MYSELF am listed as a provider) and when you try to call they hang up on you at least once before you can actually get through to talk to anyone. He told me I was not experiencing what has been confirmed by holter monitors, hospital monitors and doctor observations and told me my previous cardiac ablations for PVC's and SVT's should not have been done. I went to him for help for a pacemaker because I suffer with arrhythmia's all day long and they get painful and I want relief. He's trying to make me feel nuts. Another Cardiologist in the same practice told me I am not nuts, I am feeling what I'm feeling and a 3rd cardiac ablation is needed. For the past 10 years USF Psychiatry has demanded that I pay off my ENTIRE deductible before they'll see me for mental health services. It was bad enough when they were in network and the deductible was $250, but now that they are no longer part of the Florida Blue (BCBS) network, that deductible is $1000. They are holding my desperately needed mental health care HOSTAGE until I pay them my $1000 deductible for what will inevitably be nothing more than a 10-minute tele-medicine visit. I have repeatedly asked for an explanation of this only to be given the runaround to 5 different people who either refer me to other people or refuse to return phone calls. Worst experience I've ever had. I originally called in August to schedule an appt and the lady was rude and refused to provide me with the information to submit a maternal fetal medicine appt. After doing my own research, a referral was submitted on my behalf, but nobody ever contacted me. I tried again in October after being 16weeks pregnant to schedule an appt with the OB/GYN office and was advised the soonest they had was almost 1.5 months out even though Im considered high risk. I expressed my concerns while making the appt, urging the importance of an ultrasound and getting baseline measurements for my FGR. I waited 5 weeks for this appt and provided ALL my medical records from my previous prenatal visits so that when I arrived to my appt they have everything they need, but all they did was confirm my medical records and provided me with birth control pamphlets. I urged them to do an ultrasound to check on the baby and see how he has progressed since the last ultrasound found him to be 9th percentile in growth. They explained that their only availability to do an ultrasound is 2 weeks out, and that would put me at 29 weeks pregnant even though I'm a high risk patient and they have no idea how my child is measuring or if he's declined. I'm extremely disappointed in this office and will not be returning for my "follow up" because the lack of concern and care. The worst part is that I'm an employee of the group read more

Showed up with mask and gloves on, notices what looked like 2 employees enter through screening without mask's on, one had a USF ribbon around his neck that usually has and ID badge on it.
