Terrible stay in the off season from beginning to end.
We arrived at the main entrance, I didn't know there was a separate entrance for the tower rooms (where we were staying). This was never communicated beforehand. So after getting our bags out of the car going inside we were told they couldn't check us in and we had to put our bags back in the car and go to the tower. At the tower there was nowhere to pull up your car and unload because they had the hotel cars outside the front door blocking the entrance (even though they have their own lot on the side which is 70% empty). it is a narrow one way road so if you stop and get out of the car to go inside, cars behind you have no where to go and beep This continued to be a problem our entire stay. The front desk told us 3 times a valet would park our car but there was NEVER a valet there and there was also NEVER room to pull of the car so you could go inside and look for someone to park it. So every time we had to find a place on the street, sometime a couple blocks away.
Check in was slow. Too slow considering there was hardly anyone else checking in. The poor couple behind us probably had to wait 20 minutes just for them to check us in and no one helped else helped them even though there were other staff at the desk.
Our room was nice, It was a suite on the 5th floor. But it was really just one large room, larger than a double. The bathroom, shower etc are all in the same room, there are just some plastic partitions that are not real walls. I would expect the suites to be higher and have a better view of the ocean but this is not the case. I would consider it partial ocean view. My biggest complaint is that the shower was moldy, but other than that it was pretty nice.
Problems really started the first morning. Breakfast was not at the beach club as advertised, it was at the pool. The first morning they told me it was because it looked like rain, That was a LIE. They had it there every day even though there was no rain. They advertise this amazing breakfast with "Cotton candy machine, ice cream cart, hot chocolate fountain with fruit and marshmallows, a different welcome smoothie each morning, cocktails especially designed for early morning, perfumed waters, a gourmet corner for those who like to enjoy a breakfast of caviar and oysters, coffee menu, and two show cooking corners, one with dishes that change every day and the other classic, with eggs, omelets, waffles and crepes"... In fact they even have this video on their website with acrobats and chefs and such. There was NONE of that. Pretty disappointing considering I paid significantly extra for a rate including breakfast. The scrambled eggs were terrible and tasteless, so a couple of mornings I asked them to make me an omelet. The first time it took 1/2 hour before they brought it. The 2nd time they never brought it. They closed down the buffet and it never came. I asked and they said no one knew about it. They told me to wait and they would make it right way. When it came, it was ice cold and it was nothing like the omelet I got the first time. How can it be cold if they just made it?? It was like they had a leftover omelet from somewhere and then they scraped some leftover veggies in it from the buffet and folded it over. I can't believe I waited for that!
One evening we were pretty tired and decided to stay in and order room service. On the menu is a burger named after the steak house, The MONTAUK burger, priced at 30 euros. We ordered 2 of those. It was honestly the worst burger I ever had. It was like a hockey puck on a stale bun, small, over cooked, hard, and barely any toppings. The fries needed salt yet they brought us not salt shaker. We also ordered a large bottle of sparking water. I got a small plastic bottle of san pelegrino with no glasses. Over 70 euros for this.. Unbelievable!
Later that night around midnight I noticed a weird dripping sound. After a couple minutes we realized that the ceiling above us was leaking!! Right next to the bed onto the nightstand right onto my laptop!! We promptly called reception and they said they would send maintenance but we told they we wanted to move. The woman on the phone actually told my husband there were no other rooms. Ha, another LIE because after maintenance came and checked it they had to move us to another room because the room above us was leaking into ours. So the front desk sent up a bellman, he arrived about 30 seconds after they tell us we are moving, expecting that I somehow had time to pack all my things. When we told him we were still packing he disappeared and never came back. So we were waiting with no key to the new room. Finally we had to call again and go down to the desk before he came to move us.
Looks like I ran out of room for this review. Hopefully you get the idea. NOT at all a 5 star, first class hotel. Avoid during the off season. Avoid in general unless your only goal is party and you a fortune for no service! read more
