I highly recommend USmile USA in Shoreline, also known as Highlands West Dental, where I've been a patient for more than 30 years, as has my wife and daughter. The place is like a family where you're known and connected. They've always provided meticulous care for my many dental needs. When I needed periodontal work, they were very professional and my teeth and gums were healthy and restored. They keep track of preventative care, and quickly address anything that comes up. All three of us have received orthodontia services, including me when I wanted to restore a more healthy bite, just one of the many services provided. They have the latest innovations in care. And dealing with insurance and other paperwork is straightforward and easy--they are very familiar with the major companies, and I've not had to worry about red tape. I am so confused. Dr Tommy Fong was our family dentist for over 20 years. The last time I went for care, I was told the work I needed would cost over 7000. I decided to get a second opinion. While I researched options, I developed an abscess. The second dentist I had sought a second opinion from was out of office and wouldn't be back until the following week. In severe pain I booked an appointment with Dr, Fong's office for the following day. Upon arrival, I was told I would have to go to to the dentist I had consulted with. I explained he was out of the office until the following week. I was informed by the attending dentist (Dr Fong was not there) I could go to an emergency room for care and that I was no longer considered a patient and although in severe pain, refused care!! Why then was I even scheduled?? Was Dr. Fong offended I sought a second opinion?? Confused, I asked for Dr. Fong to contact me. To date no response. BTW- the last procedure performed, with no advanced warning was done by Doctor Fong's assistant instead of Dr. Fong. The crown was very bulky, the work substandard and had to be redone by Dr. Fong. Now in his late 70's or early 80's, I question his level of care and judgement. I am certainly confused over the refusal for care by him and his associate. We have never been late in payment our insurance didn't cover. Needless to say, I am very confused. How do you refuse a patient in pain? In fairness, if I do hear from Dr. Fong or his office and it was a simply a mistake, I will update my review. In the meantime, I can NOT recommend. read more

Best Dental Experience Ever! I needed to have a root canal. I was referred to see Dr. Moazzeni. This was my first root canal & I was very nervous about it. Dr. Moazzeni explained how the procedure is done & responded to my numerous questions. She did the procedure flawlessly. I went back a month later for a follow up visit. I felt no pain & sensitivity in that tooth. I was very happy with Dr. Moazzeni. She takes her time & really cares about her patients I highly recommend Dr. Moazzeni. read more

This review is based on dental work done a while back: IF I could give this dental office negative stars, I would. I came here with my little brother and mom for his dental appointment. Everything on the surface appeared nice. Clean office, nice receptionist/dental assitance, nice location, etc. However, the problem started after the dentist (I will keep his name annoymous, but refer to the first letter in his name), Dr. D, performed his "craft" on my brother's mouth. Mid-process, Dr. D dropped a needle in my brothers stomach. He tried to downplay it and said my brother would, for lack of better words, excrete it out. But because the business owner was scared, he made the dentist cancel all his appointments to go with my brother and my mom to the hospital. The hospital ended up referring us to Children's Hospital via ambulance since it was an emergency. My family was left with a fat bill, which my mom sent to the dentist office. The dentist (Dr. D) had the nerve to ask my mom to ask her health insurance to cover it. Eventually the dental office took care of the health expenses, but only when my mom demanded it. I question his work ethics and craftsmanship. Not only was that extrememly negligent but also unprofessional. read more

I've had some pretty bad experiences here and want to save anyone else from having to deal with this dental office. First, I've had over 6 appointments and NEVER saw the same dentist more than once. I'd be interested in seeing how many different dentists worked here over the past 5 years. They don't listen to you, and that's a huge issue for me. I wanted all my smaller issues taken care of first, then we could work on the big problems. They totally ignored what I wanted and scheduled root canals first. Which ended up failing and one of the dentists (who did NOT do the root canal) stated, "Well there was a good chance they would fail". WTF! Why not tell me that first? I guess there was a crack in the teeth, but they wanted to "try" and save the teeth. In the meantime, I couldn't get any fillings or cleanings because my dental insurance maximum was used up from the root canals. So gotta wait another whole year. Of course I still have to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket for the 50% on the failed root canals. I ended up not putting crowns on the root canals because they failed. But their accounting department automatically charged me for them! When I called and demanded they refund me, I got the run around. I then got an letter with a form stating that I had to sign and return the form, otherwise they would not refund me for crowns I NEVER got. The form basically stated that I held them harmless from the 2 root canals which failed and wouldn't take them to court... They're jerks and it's clearly all about the money. The office and rooms were clean and tidy. I have no complaints about their customer service either. They very nicely stole my money and told me I had to give up my rights to sue them in order to get my money back. This was over 4 years ago. They may have changed in the meanwhile, but I highly doubt it. read more

I've had it with Donna who works the front desk. She said my name wrong again when i arrived for the appointment and when she called to confirm the day before. I corrected her both times. She said she was sorry but I told her if she was sorry she would say my name right (after all it's printed correctly on my chart) She then told me that if it makes me feel better to yell at an old lady, go ahead. On the way out one of the other front desk people had to help her on the computer with another patient "no that's his first name...." Ugh, I wonder what other mistakes she makes and why the partners put up with her incompetence. It also starts to make wonder about the care I'm getting. As I read the many negative reviews, I realize that my recent bad experience is not the only time that Highlands West has failed their patients. I decided to write a review because I think you deserve to be warned. I have been a patient of Dr. Wong's for over 10 years. My husband and two kids also went to him. He's a lovely man and I have always felt he gave me good care. My kids have been occasionally placed with other dentists at Highlands West who they did not like at all, but we all like Dr. Fong, evern though the customer service at the front desk is often rude and sometimes just ridiculous, like asking me every time I go in if my birthday is still the same! Silly. Ask, "Can I confirm your birthday." At my last check up the name on the sign had changed from Highlands West to USmile. The dental hygienist had been on vacation and had no idea why the name had changed. When I asked Dr. Fong, he joked that he just thought the new name sounded good. I asked him directly if he was retiring and he said, "no." Not true. Dr. Fong, you owe your patients the truth. If you are not retiring, then why are you never in the office? I had difficulty with a tooth and he said I needed a root canal. He assigned my procedure to someone in the office who is not an endodonist and assured me that she was competent. I wanted to know more about her but she wasn't in the office and the front desk could not find her business card, though they have many other business cards on display. I went through with the root canal and Dr. Ra was very sweet and seemed competent. I have no real complaints about her manner. However, I had immediate complications with the root canal. I had extreme pain. When I called the office they put me off and wouldn't let me speak to anyone. Dr. Ra and Dr. Fong were no where to be found. I called them and let them know what was going on and I took an entire day off of work, expecting that they would want to see me immediately. I have had other root canals with endodonist and they call me to follow up not the other way around. Finally, towards the end of the business day I called them again and they had forgotten about me. Even though Dr. Ra was not in the office, they did track her down and she called me. Honestly, the level of care and interest in patients was so surprising and unprofessional. No one seems to no what is going on there. I won't drag you through every aspect of my experience and care around this root canal, but the discomfort went on for weeks until they finally had me meet with the endodonist on their staff, who is only there on Thursdays. Dr. Fong has never contacted me even though I have asked to speak to him about this several times. Dr. Ra has never followed up after the endodonist meeting to see how I am doing. This is a very low level of care and follow up. When you go to this office you are entering into a corporate environment where no one actually takes responsibility for what happens. I really thought Dr. Fong was "my dentist." Apparently, even after 10 + years he doesn't agree. There are so many good dentists out there, you do not have to use this dentistry office. They do not deserve your trust. There's a website called Opencare that matches you up with highly qualified and well reviewed dentists. I hate going to the dentist like most people and had put it off for years, but after visiting Dr. Marquez at Highlands West Dental I'm sorry I waited so long. They checked on my insurance for me and explained how much things would cost before performing any services so I was not blind sided by any unexpected charges, they were very respectful of my time-my appointment started on time and Dr. Marquez made sure I was comfortable through every step of the appointment. I've been lucky enough to have Dr.Ra as my dentist, which through all my years and multiple offices has been the best experience. You can tell she truly loves what she does. Dr.Ra is gentle and caring when it comes to cleanings, and getting work done. As I'm sure you know, visiting the dentist can be a bit scary but she is really good at calming, and being funny which lightens the mood. I love that she goes over my xrays with me and explains everything both good and bad. I feel like I'm really being taken care of more than just another patient, but like a friend. I am commending the outstanding work performed by Dr. David Y. Kim. We were specifically looking for a doctor who has a lot of experience with Wisdom Teeth Removal WITHOUT full general anesthesia. We also were not able to use Nitrous Oxide. So, it was critical to find someone who was able to finesse the 4 impacted teeth from the fragile mouth of a fully awake 16 year girl. Dr. Kim executed this task without any complications. He gave us both office and personal phone contacts in the event we had any questions or concerns. We called on two occasions and he was available immediately both times. My daughter trusted his professional, yet warm manner and would recommend his expertise to anyone looking for a trustworthy Dentist for wisdom teeth removal. He checks up a week later and if necessary, will have you come in for another follow up just to make sure the healing process is complete. read more

I've been a patient here for many years and this place used to be great however my last experience here with Dr. Moazzeni was terrible. She took x rays and said SEVERAL teeth needed to be pulled. Thank god I only decided to pull the one. She pulled it and the tooth is PERFECT except for a small spot of decay. The roots are perfect. I showed this to a few friends that work in dentistry and they ALL said that there was NO reason for this tooth to be pulled. I am livid. I am setting an appointment with them to tell them this, and tell them the ONLY way I will proceed as their patient is if they do a root canal on the effected teeth. No more needless extractions. I believe they wanted to extract the tooth in hopes I would come to them for the implant which is thousands of dollars. Extremely wrong and I may sue them for the cost of the implant on the tooth that was needlessly pulled. Medical malpractice all around. Stay away from Dr. Moazenni. UPDATE: Highlands West Dental has NOT responded to my complaints as they promised they would, Dr. Moazenni has been nothing but condescending, rude, & shows no accountability or remorse for what she's done. Both Dr. Moazenni and HWD do not seem like they are willing to make this right, and my lawyer agrees I have a medical malpractice suit in the bag as my case is a slam dunk, I have dental professionals willing to testify against her, and other patients of hers that she's victimized. Highlands West Dental required me to provide my Social Security Number over the phone before they would schedule my appointment. The vast majority of insurers no longer use SSN to identify patients, so there is no need for them to have this. They were not able to provide any details about how, if at all, they would safeguard this information. Identify thieves target medical and dental practices daily to steal personal information since they are such easy targets. All they usually need is to offer money to a financially struggling employee to download or print their patient information. If the file has a SSN as well as name & address, the thief has everything they need to steal your identify. How do I know this? Because it happened to me last year and was a HUGE hassle. If your dentist/doctor insists they need your SSN to bill your insurance, call your insurer yourself to verify it. Chances are, they don't need it and your doctor/dentist is just behind the times. read more

It turned out to be super difficult, and all the stuff there doesn't even know what plans they would accept. They only go off with what the carrier tells them and they can't even confirm or be certain which plans are in network or not. All they can say is" sorry l can not help you." A new patient! I appreciate being able to get in as a new patient with a few days notice, days before Christmas. Friendly and helpful staff! A few days after that visit, I had a portion of mollar crack and fall out. I was able to get in quickly for a temporary crown and a week later for a permanent crown. In the beginning I was really nervous and wasn't totally sold by the customer service when I called to make an initial appointment. There was nothing horrible about it, but nothing great, comforting or welcoming about it either. My last dentist can only be summed up as an asshole. I lived in Arkansas for three years and visited the dentist every six months for cleanings and x-rays but at each visit the hygienist was with me 95% of the time. The dentist came in for five minutes to read the x-ray and roughly and painfully prod my teeth. My last visit found a cavity and I was terrified to have it filled- by him. That was 16 months ago and I put off seeing a dentist out of sheer fear of having a guy like that near my teeth. It turns out that not every dentist is like that, as I so fortunately learned today! I used a search tool through my insurance and this was the first one to come up near my work. I bit the bullet and scheduled an appointment. I was randomly assigned to Dr. Fong. I was extremely nervous and was hoping that only the hygienist would work on my teeth (just a routine cleaning/exam visit). The assistant finished with the x-rays and told me the dentist would be right with me. I spent a few minutes anxiously waiting. Dr. Fong immediately put me at ease and was incredibly gentle and very informative. I was also shocked that he did the bulk of the cleaning (minus the polishing). I've never learned so much from a dentist appointment. In two hours I learned more about my teeth than I ever did in all of my combined dentist visits. He carefully went over the x-rays with me on a monitor above my chair. Showed me areas of concern clearly explained why they were a concern, also showed me things not to be concerned about, what I've been doing right and what I might be able to do a little better. He listened to my concerns, gave patient and detailed answers and genuinely seemed to enjoy his job! I left the visit feeling more confident (the last dentist left me really concerned about a few things) and empowered to make decisions about my teeth and to understand exactly what state my teeth are in. As I left I scheduled an appointment for my husband too. I can almost say it was an enjoyable experience :). read more

I am totally afraid of any dental work that requires needles and drills but I am no longer afraid since going to Highlands West Dental. The dentists are EXCELLENT!!!!! I have been a patient of this dental practice for about 15 years. My last appointment was this February of 2013 and before that appointment I had called their office, asking if it was absolutely necessary for me to get X-rays because the dental wings are hard on my TMJ (jaw issue). This condition was well documented in my chart. I was told that yes, Dr. Fong said that I needed them. I went in, got my teeth cleaned and then had x-rays taken, but it was a very painful experience, especially since the dental hygienist didn't do it quickly enough. The result was I had jaw pain, ear pain and headaches for a week. Also, I wasn't able to eat solid food. At that time I faxed Dr. Fong a note about my experience, but didn't get any response back. I was scheduled to come in again this November, and called and asked whether they had received my fax, because I had never gotten a response. The receptionist spoke to Dr. Fong and confirmed that he had received the fax, but still he didn't bother to talk to me about it. Then I requested to speak to my hygienist to ask for the name of a different dentist in that practice who I could see. She too, would not get on the phone with me. Then the receptionist informed me that I was not welcome in their practice anymore. So they had a situation and instead of directly speaking to me, a patient of many years, they ignored the pain that was caused by their insistence on giving me X-rays. They wouldn't let me make an appointment with a different dentist in their group. The dental hygienist either wouldn't or couldn't talk directly to me, all I got was a message from their receptionist who told me to go elsewhere. I had a cleaning and x-rays in February of 2013. I was going to schedule another cleaning this November, but because of lack of responsiveness by Dr. Tommy Fong and the dental hygienist and the staff receptionist I need to go elsewhere. read more

I rarely rate businesses, but my experience with usmile(highland west's orthodontist department) was so awkward and unprofessional I thought I should share. I went into have my lower teeth quoted for braces as I tried Invisible trays that didn't get the results I wanted. They didn't take photos, X-rays, or anything as all other orthodontist offices had. The orthodontist looks in my mouth and she looks rushed. She asked what my concerns were, I discussed that. She told me she would be back with a quote. She gave me the quote and it was competitively priced. On the way out I asked if the clear brackets were more money and how long the orthodontist has been there to make sure I'm going to a good orthodontist. The front desk lady told me she would ask for the orthodontists background and email it to me, as well as, if the clear brackets were more. I was given a time frame of 2 days to get those answers. Three days go by nothing so I call in and nicely ask if they had found anything out yet. The lady says let me check. She states we are sending you a letter in the mail and we understand if you want to go somewhere else please feel free to do so. I said I don't have a timeline just trying to see when I'd hear back o those two questions. I then asked for an appointment anyways as I know dental offices are backed up a few weeks. She again said you'll be getting a letter in the mail in a week, please feel free to go somewhere else. So today I get an email stating they don't want to do my braces. I would stay away from any dental/medical establishment that won't give you their Drs credentials and tells you it's okay to go somewhere else because you asked. Asking for credentials is VERY common. Most places out that info online, maybe they are hiding something. The orthodontist apparently has only been there a few months. I do not recommend this establishment for orthodontist work. Don't give me a quote and then blackout because I ask for your orthodontist credentials. Or atleast call me to discuss rather than a vague letter... Who gets turned down work for asking for more info???! Never in my life has this happened to me. :/ read more

I have been going here for years and even have driven 15-30 miles just to have them see me. So many dentists need to take notes from this place. They are gentle, accomodating, caring and do quality work. For the first time in my life, I haven't gotten cavities and I no longer have a fear of going to the dentist. The hours are extended on certain days and on Saturdays, which makes it less stressful for busy professionals like myself. I keep getting a different dentist, however each doctor has been amazing and I trust their staff. They listen to me and offer reliable quotes if you have major dental work to be done. Their equipment and software are state of the art, as well as plenty of dental chairs for the many quality dentists they employ. I am so glad that my former co-work recommended this place to me. It has saved me money, time, stress and has improved both my health AND my smile! read more

The dentist, Dr. Kriswell, was friendly and professional. However, the five minutes spent with her did not make up for the absolutely terrible cleaning that I was given. There were repeated times that water leaked down my neck. The polisher used barely had any toothpaste on it, and three or four times it slipped off my teeth, hitting me in the lips. What remained on my teeth was not thoroughly rinsed, and then she began trying to floss...ver awkwardly, and unsuccessfully. At one point I offered to floss myself, but she insisted and said it needed to be done for the final step of the fluoride. However, after that she simply pretended to floss! Hitting just the tops of my teeth and never getting between them. Finally, the fluoride treatment used was painted half-assed on my teeth and was to remain there all day. I found out later from a friend in the dentistry business that that treatment is typically used for kids. Not impressed and I will not be going back. read more
