It was an owner-operated establishment, which always presents the best conditions for above-average service. The service in this case was indeed excellent. The menu offered some very tempting choices. My colleague told me that their specialty is the Filet Pur. Hence, that was the choice for mains for both of us. He started with a trio of croquettes, which he found to be agreeable. I had the lobster bisque, which I thought was well done with a good, hearty flavor. The steaks, both done with a peppercorn sauce, were the highlights of our meals. I am not a heavy red meat consumer, but I have to say that I enjoyed this serving immensely, and would recommend it to anyone who has a partiality to steak. Their wine selection was decent. The Malbec we had to accompany the meal was a little unusual as it was a bit fruitier with more of an oaken overtone than I normally have had. But it was good nonetheless. The fare was not cheap. My colleague picked up the bill, so I did not see the final price tag. I'd have to think that it approached €150 with the aperitifs, the appetizer, mains, the bottle of wine and a finishing coffee. But I'd still say it was worth it. This place offers a great chance for a lovely night out or a terrific spot for a business dinner.

This is near his home and he had heard good things about it. It is tucked away in a neighborhood and situated in what looked to have been a former residence. We were seated right away because of having reservations. It was quite busy for a Monday night, partially due to a work celebration that involved quite a few people. They occupied quite a bit of the moderate-sized dining area. Nonetheless, the atmosphere was conducive to a nice meal. The service was likewise terrific as our wait person attended to us quickly. The team did a great job all night. The highlight was the menu. The creativity and combinations were nothing like what I've found at any other restaurant in the past. There were European options and Japanese options, all of which sounded extraordinarily tempting. For starters, there was a small charcuterie board with bread, crostinis, salami and tomato chutney already on the table. The chutney was excellent. We augmented the starter repertoire with calamari that was also extremely well done. My colleague and I both chose the Gyoza dinner for our mains. This came with 12 pieces accompanied by a salad and rice. It was outstanding. I also must compliment their wine selection, as the Malbec they offered was one of the best I've had in some time. The prices were not inexpensive, but yet were commensurate with the quality of the fare. With all included, our final bill was €129 for the two of us, which was about $143 with the exchange rate at the time. At $71.50 per person, it was not cheap, but was also well worth the quality of the fare. Overall, I was quite happy with my experience at this restaurant. The food + service is fantastic as well! My partner + I made a reservation, which I recommend everywhere in Kortrijk because owners tend to save their best tables for those with reservations. They have a large outdoor space along the Leie, but it was a cool spring evening, so we opted to sit inside against the floor-to-ceiling window. We had a great view, so it was basically the next best thing to dining al fresco. We ordered a couple non-alcoholic beverages - which they were kind enough to customize for me a bit, since I don't do carbonation/tonics - and enjoyed sipping while diving into the menu. The menu offerings are what you'd expect at a modern Asian restaurant - bao, loempia, gyoza, teriyaki, edamame - but we still had trouble narrowing down what we wanted. Just when we figured it out, the table next to us received their food and it changed everything! "What was that? And what about that one?", we asked. The starters all looked incredible! The veggie gyoza? Delicious! Probably the best I've ever had. The kimchi balls? 10/10 *Chef's kiss* We could have easily ordered 4-5 starters (great portion sizes!) and just made a meal out of them, but we did decide on two mains. I chose the salmon teriyaki, which was very filling and every.single.bite. was sooo flavorful! It was a large enough that I actually took half home with me (though I may have also had one too many of those amazing kimchi balls). My partner + I are both adept at chopsticks, but the sizes are large enough that you may want a knife/fork - and the curry has enough yummy sauce that you'll want a spoon to get every last drop! They do provide a ramen spoon perfect for soups, but it's really big and I found it difficult to get to the bottom of the ramen spoon for the heartier stuff, like chicken and rice. I had the duo of pork croquettes, my dad had the laqued pork belly and my sister had the bone marrow. Now, while everything was very nice, the portions of certain items (the bone marrow specifically, 4 bones is a bit much as a starter) were definitely on the larger side of things. Meanwhile wine was ordered too and we had a nice Spanish red wine. I ended up getting the Entrecôte of Simmental as a main, which again was on the large side (managed to finish about half of it). It was perfectly cooked though. The fries and salad weren't much to write home about though (neither was the chicory salad according to my dad). Didn't bother with dessert as I was already full. One other remark I have is that the temperature in the restaurant was definitely on the warm side. I was sitting in a T-shirt and was still sweating.

And the main course can really disappoint. My companion's scallops with tagliatelle had a sauce out of Chef Boyardee. And the tagliatelle had turned into a fazzoletto--a pasta "handkerchief." My sweetbreads with sea lavender were nicely sautéed with a glacé de viande but the accompaniments were not as advertised. Of the "lamsoor"(sea lavender--an edible seaweed) there was none in evidence--but lots of white asparagus and assorted mushrooms--at least three varieties. Dessert brought the same chef's caprice. My partner's strawberries with mascarpone had everything--sorbet, three layer cake, strange garnishes--but a mere dab of mascarpone. Dinner for two with a half litre of house wine was 150 euros without coffee but with a 7 euro half litre of Vittel.

The space is open and bright with one large communal table and several four tops. The staff told us they were working on the outdoor space to make it nicer as there was only one table and some construction material when we visited in late May 2015. The staff were very nice and a gentleman took the time to explain to us how their menu worked and allowed us to make our own lunch combo of soup and a chicken stew. There is also a short beer menu and a couple of house wines. There is also free tap water if you ask for it, a source of joy for me. The food was my favorite part. The menu at LPB is small, allowing them to cook everything with care. There is a salad bar that we didn't try, a soup of the day, and an entree of the day. The entree on the day we visited was a generous serving of chicken stew and fresh spring peas. The chicken was so tender and fell off the bone at the slightest push of my fork. The sauce was so flavorful that we soaked up every last drop with our bread. The soup was also flavorful and comforting. My husband said he was full when I insisted we check out LPB, but he ended up eating quite a lot of the chicken stew for someone who was full! I highly recommend you check out this lovely cafe. My only regret is we didn't have enough time during our Gent stay to revisit again.

The soup is cream based and I mean a lot of watery cream, so the stomach can handle so much. I had about two big bowls and couldn't do it any more. Both signature dishes come with a side of croquettes or frites. We ordered the croquettes which were good, but average croquettes with no bells and whistles. They offer ham and cheese croquettes which I think could be amazing. Service was super slow as there were only two waiters working the entire place it seemed and this place was packed in both first and second floor. It's worth trying just to try a traditional Flemish dish at least once in your life.
