First rate restaurant with all of the trappings. We just lucked into it after a glimpse of the menu stand outside. We were dressed for a show later, so we weren't out of place. The menu and specials are full of homemade pasta, seasonal features, and fresh seafood. Service is very good. Atmosphere is elegant, classy, and bustling. There are three dining areas on two floors. We were here just before 5pm and it's apparently a popular stop for people after work who come for a drink and to stand around the high top tables in the bar area. The staff and service were great. Gracious, accommodating, prompt, and our server's recommendations were spot-on. We enjoyed everything. The highlights were some of the menu specials, including zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta and the Ravioli with runny egg yolk. We also enjoyed the pork chop with potatoes and a spicy sauce. One of their signature dishes. The Caesar salad is light, a decent size with not much dressing. I wouldn't go out of my way to have it here again. The bar has craft drinks in the $25 range. Meals were $30-$90. Prices are pricey, and you're paying for great food, atmosphere, the neighborhood, and so much expertise. It's a top 10 Italian food experience in my lifetime. read more

I came here for lunch on a weekday and it was very busy. We started off with some family style appetizers including a salad, grilled vegetables, calamari, burrata. They were good but nothing special. I got the seafood pasta as my main and the portions were pretty big however, not all the seafood were fresh. The service and ambiance is nice and gives high-end vibes. They do coat check downstairs before going up. It was a fine lunch overall, it just didn't wow me in any ways. With so many options in the city, I would try something else next time. read more

Been meaning to try this place for a while now. We stopped in on a rainy Saturday and it was just we respite we needed. The entrance is nondescript and unassuming but once you step inside that wooden door, you know you are in for a treat. From the greeting to the seating you are transported. The excellent service is not to be diminished by the ambiance. I have no complaints on the food. We tried a lot. Not sure what the standout was but the Sea Bass, the single egg yolk ravioli and the chocolate lava cake will be living rent free in my dreams for long time. This is a great atmosphere with a separated bar area from the main dining room. The service staff was professional and attentive. The food options were plentiful with a multitude of specials for the day to change things up. Wine list extensive and plates shareable. The food all tasted good, but not terribly complex or flavorful. The sushi was very visually stunning, but over killed with additatives that took away from the natural fish. If ever in New York, this is a MUST for you and your companion. The ambiance was beautiful and romantic. Our server, Daniel, was simply AMAZING! The cocktails were grand and the food was delicious. This does not happen by mistake. I ordered the lobster medallion salad. Somehow the medallions became a mash of lobster meat held together by batter. The medallions were to be served on a bed of avocado and arugala. Only arugula was the accompaniment. An oversight? read more

In between shows we went to valbella for dinner. The restaurant is gorgeous. Clean, great views, modern. We really enjoyed the atmosphere. Drinks were great, food was good. We would definitely go back or recommend it to someone looking for a new restaurant to try. It was too cold but it looked like they had a nice terrace that would be great in the spring/ summer. Will never ever ever return. Shame as the place is in a nice setting with large outdoor area. The food, though, is a huge letdown. Mediocre food is fine but what really gets me is when restaurants try to overcharge for things that weren't ordered and charge the incorrect price for bottles of wine we ordered. To us it was a clear and deliberate attempt to overcharge. I looked up the creepy owner David's track record and apparently he has a history of cheating his staff as well. Amazing experience! We got sushi as an appetizer and it was very fresh (I always battle if I want sushi or Italian food LOL! So a place that had both is a unique mix and put a smile on my face). For pasta I got the linguine con frutti di mare and I am still thinking about it. The Caesar salad was ok, not bad by any means but would probably skip it next time and try something else. Dirty martini and espresso martinis were two thumbs up. We sat inside but did pop by the outside patio and highly advise sitting out there if possible. The atmosphere was really pretty and lively. Overall great atmosphere, top notch service, and the most important of all......the food was absolutely delicious ! The seafood risotto cooked perfectly, octopus appetizer served with the most incredible chickpeas in a sauce which was impressive to say the least. The desserts one better than the next the fresh napoleon cake (which seems pretty popular) has a great presentation and flavor. Absolutely worth a visit you won't be disappointed. read more

My sister made reservations for us to have a last family dinner and Broadway show before headed home, and we weren't disappointed  The atmosphere is so beautiful, and from most places in the dining area, you get a view of the buildings across and it's quite lovely. Loved how they used wine cellar as partitions/wall decor Our server was great. It's always fun to engage in banter while receiving attentive service. At first he came across as a little cold, but warmed up and cracked jokes by the end of our dinner  He also made a great recommendation for dessert, Napoleon (Mille fille check spelling) which is a light layered dessert with cream.  Overall, the atmosphere, food and service were all good. read more

Wowsers....this place is fancy! Wonderful location near Bryant Park with an indoor and outdoor seating area. This place is ultra high end all the way from the decor, clientele and menu/drink cost. Lamb chops were great, fries were done well, sushi was okay, calamari pretty good and egg yolk ravioli very tasty. The old fashion with tequila cocktail was fantastic but $25. Service here was fantastic. Very attentive, maybe a little pushy on the ordering. Definitely a place to check out if you want to impress someone. read more

It is a pretty space nothing special. The best of it is the staff. From the gentleman at coach check to the waiters and servers. Everyone goes out of their way to be helpful and to make sure you like what you are having. The food, however, is mediocre at best. And horrifically expensive at worst. Came here for a team dinner. There was about 10 of us at one large table. The waiters were excellent, super helpful and kind. We had a 4 course meal with wine pairing in a way. we started off the first course with two types of salad, which were delicious along with a rosé and a white wine.then we got two glasses of red, which were also very good, we got two different pastas and eggplant one and a Bolognese. I really loved the eggplant pasta and for my entrée I got the steak medallions with peppercorn sauce and mashed potatoes. It was me nothing spectacular, pretty basic and the crème brûlée for dessert. Other colleagues got the chocolate soufflé, which was a bit too chocolatey for me and had a side of ice cream, my friend had the chicken entrée and that was also not that spectacular. read more

I used to eat at the other Valbella establishment near Park Ave and the 50s. I love this new location, ambience is similar and good vibes. Staff is always attentive and giving amazing service. The menu is to die for! Really love the calamari and lobster. Sushi isn't bad here either, I've tried two signature rolls before. I have lambchops from time to time. Delicious. Martinis and wine selections are good. The rooftop calls for fantastic views and air, and bustling with finance people usually due to being in the heart of Bryant Park. It's definitely one of my favorites in the area. I recommend for fine dining in the area, but definitely on the pricey side for most! read more

I was very disappointed in my dinner. We made a reservation for 4pm. They were definitely not ready for diners at this time, busy setting up tables which was annoying. They encouraged us to sit in a side room which was not pretty so we asked to move to the main dining room with a bar that was open to the outside which was very pretty. We started with a salad with beets and shared it and it was quite small, too much dressing and lacking in substance. I wanted a sushi appetizer but they said it would take some time to prepare it. Again they were not prepared for our reservation. Main course for my husband was a $75 filet mingnon which was cold and tasteless. My lamb chops were fair, small, not seasoned but tasty. The food did not come out hot like it was just cooked. For desert I asked waiter for recommendations and he suggested the molten lava but didn't mention it would take 15 minutes to prepare. They brought out a complimentary desert since I was annoyed we didn't have much time to wait and that desert was tasteless and dry. after a long wait the molten lava cake came out and it was excellent, the best part of the meal. We came back to this gem with kids for my husbands's birthday dinner, an early evening dinner to try their regular menu. Last time we only ordered sushi and it was amazing! The service was right on, attentive but not overbearing and our waiter had great suggestions. We started with fried calamari which was light and tasty with a wonderful marinara sauce on the side. We also had tuna tartar from the specials which was a great. We did have a huge dish of sushi specials since we couldn't skip that. It was beautiful , so fresh also very tasty!! For main course I really enjoyed double veal chops, grilled to perfection with vegetables on the side (baked potato, carrots and cauliflowers), my husband did order steak and it was perfect. Kids had lamb chops from the regular menu and mushroom Ravioli from the specials. Both amazing!! Desserts were also well executed with Napoleon cake being the stand out, topped with fresh almonds and amazing vanilla cream. Kids had an amazing time helping the chef prepare my husband's birthday surprise!! I would absolutely be coming back again soon and probably bring friends to enjoy drinks on their beautiful deck! read more

I LOVED the setting (lively rooftop patio) and the service (many servers who were genuinely attentive) but I thought it was overpriced and I especially hated all the cigar and cigarette smoke from the customers who were dining on the patio. Had lunch there today. Service was impeccable. I had the Caesar salad and the pork chop with hot cherry peppers. The salad was good, but the pork chop was by far the best I've ever had. However, was not impressed with the vibe: - we were seated on the 2nd floor which looks to be for big groups only. There were ONLY groups of 6-8, did not see a single small table besides mine. We were squeezed into a table amidst the rotation. Super awkward - I had specified this was a business meeting but they set us up at this weirdly intimate table... ??? - the floor was absolutely chaos. Waiters EVERYWHERE, no room between tables, just super frenzied atmosphere. While I appreciate the service people were hovering way too much around all the diners. Definitely not a calm or fun experience - very strange host set up ... first you have to check in on the 1st floor (unfriendly hostesses) ride up the elevator which opens up to a very crowded bar area; everyone is knocking into each other. And the 2nd host stand is there so you check in again. Hosts were also knocking into people given the cramped set up. - besides the outdoor patio, I don't know why the interior is getting such positive reviews. Nothing special about the decor nor the view (the restaurant is NOT on Bryant park despite the address.... Just saying for all the tourists) There is a cool wine bottle room though... I'm not sure what's on the 3rd floor, maybe that's better decorated? I would come back for some after work drinks on the patio OR for a large business dinner given the convenient location and set up. Corporate card will be used for sure as the wine bottles are pricey (200$ min). Otherwise not a place I would revisit, plenty of way cooler restaurants in NYC at this price point read more
