I went there for the georgia 2026 boys state event and the campus is very nice and open but if you dislike bugs you are not going to like the amount of gnats that appear in the summer because of the location. I didn't get to explore the whole campus but there are many majors to choose from and the staff are all very supportive and kind. read more

Took my senior to the college tour and it was just so all over the place. Ignorant loud parents and students as well as guides who just didn't care enough to give the tour. I witnessed guides leaving families out of conversations and not giving chances to ask and answer questions. My kid also was approached by some other kid from God knows where on the tour bus and he tried to fist fight her. Nothing was done. And the faculty just kind of drops you off at the end and leave you to fend for yourself. The cafeteria food was terrible, the green beans bbq chicken in particular but the dining room staff were all kind and amazing. As soon as we got to the parking lot we scratched Valdosta state off the list and this was her top college. read more

This review is mostly specific to VSU's Odum Library and also its student center--I was visiting while doing academic research and not a student at VSU myself, so I cannot comment on classroom instruction, student life, or faculty really. (Although that said, I know a couple students there who are very pleased with the school and their overall education.) The Odum Library is a large, modern, facility built I would guess from its design in the later 1980s or early 1990s. It's clean and not really showing its age but does display efforts at keeping it current. The reference librarians lead by Laura Wright and Denise Montgomery are beyond helpful, knowledgeable, and adroit. Denise especially was able to answer many specific research questions I had and even came over to offer more advice unsolicited, which was above and beyond the call of duty and very appreciated. The special collections are well-housed and easy to access and their archive of local history is superb for researchers researching issues germane to Valdosta and the region. Also of note, the library has a collection of original Rembrandt, Dalí, and other prints and medieval illuminated manuscripts. These were donated by a benefactor to the library with instructions to house them where patrons would see them, however, it's amazing they're not in a dedicated museum or gallery given their notability and value (they are though framed and presented very nicely and professionally). They line a hall between the circulation desk and reference desk and are a must-see if at the library for any reason. Other notes on the campus: most of the architecture is of a Spanish/Moorish revival style which as a cohesive whole actually is very attractive and works really well--it's a pretty campus overall. There are also many fountains both large and small: I've never seen a school so enamored with darn fountains. The student center is fairly new and contains a Starbucks, Moe's, and other fast food restaurants and is comfortable and well-appointed if a bit small. My friend Trayvon says they actually always do have various student life activities going on and the campus is a pleasant and engaging place. People, whether students or faculty here, are nice--like really, really, nice. Very helpful and friendly, moreso than many institutions I've visited. read more

Move in was effortless, as you pull your car up and students unload it in big rolling crates and move it into the dorm rooms. Speaking of the dorms, they were clean and neat, as was the entire campus. Some furniture in the Union shows wear and tear, but nothing out of the ordinary. I especially liked Reade Hall for honors students as the dorm only has about 45 residents and common areas are nice. Whatever area I have visited, faculty and staff have been very friendly and accommodating. Shuttles run from 7:30 AM to 11:30 PM on weekdays and have wifi and run continuously. read more

Well it's been a week since I last saw my daughter after leaving her at VSU. She's having a blast. She loves her roommates and is now in the kappa delta sorority there. Classes start tomorrow and she will enter a whole new phase of college life. VSU offers one of the best majors of speech therapy around. That's what she wants to do and is certainly further ahead of things than I was as a college freshman. We have been nothing but impressed with this institution since we started making college visits over a year ago. All subsequent visits were outstanding. It's a beautiful campus, with top notch student services. Not too far away from Jacksonville. Even though I miss her intensely, I could not be more proud and excited for her next few years at VSU. read more

My roommate did not wanna live with me to work at a job I used to work at called Hooters. She did not take me to look for a job the entire year so I had to transfer to a different college. She wanted to strip and stay at the same college all four years so she did that to me. read more

Good choice for students seeking degree in Education; their teacher training program is very strong. Unfortunately, the University is not student-centered. The Office of Student Affairs is not geared to enhance the student experience. For a well-rounded college experience that combines both solid academics with the more social aspects of student life, look elsewhere, such as Georgia College. Stronger academics and an administration that values its students and their families. read more

I think the school administration is student centered or at least is now listening and changes will occur. I know they recently have hired Aramark to upgrade the food services which is a significant change, also the addition of other food restaurants are going to arrive in campus. The university has suffered from bad public relations, some self inflicted no doubt, but they need to settle on a permanent President to guide this school. Campus is stunning and they do have long term faculty but they need to regroup and hopefully in next few years it occurs. I attend UGA and I really think this school has a lot to offer. read more
