BEWARE ladies!!!! ...this is to any female that goes to Jonny X, currently working out of Valhalla tattoo shop. I went to Jonny for a few tattoos, all completed on the same day...with the initial intent to return cause I had been looking for an artist since I moved here to NC. Aside from feeling the entire time I was there like he was hitting on me...before starting my last tattoo he asked me out; which I declined. I should have just left after he asked but still sat for my final tattoo...after declining, his demeanor completely changed. He was clearly irritated with me, which made me extremely uncomfortable and feeling unsafe. Long story short, as a result of declining, he intentionally messed up on my last tattoo. It's absolutely terrible!!!! Thanks to this asshole I now have a permanent reminder on my body of this situation; a fucked up tattoo. In this town, I unfortunately am not the only female who has had this same/similar experience with Jonny X. If you are a female that still decides to go to him, I wouldn't go alone. read more

I had a terrible experience with this tattoo shop. I paid a $100 deposit via Venmo to Dicie Esparza. When I called to confirm the appointment (almost three weeks ahead) they had the wrong date and refused to reschedule. They also refused to refund my deposit. Dicie put a rude man (who was seemingly under the influence) on the phone who screamed "BYE" at me repeatedly and hung up.They ignored all my calls and emails after that. All I wanted was to reschedule my appointment. Avoid this place unless you want to be scammed and treated poorly. read more

I'm a recent veteran temporarily here for some training and found Valhalla Tattoo while walking thru the town. Gabe had an opening and was able to do exactly what I wanted. He is professional, friendly, and artistically talented, and the cost was reasonable and affordable. I couldn't be more pleased. Don't let any short demeanors fool you over the phone. These guys are pro. They're incredibly talented artists and entertaining as hell once you're in the chair. A friend of mine has one and a half stunning sleeves of creative nautically themed tattoos almost all done exclusively by Valhalla Tattoo, so when she recommended them it was the final push I needed to get the small little fresh ink that I'd been itching for. And they did not disappoint. They're only taking walk-ins right now since Covid, but I managed to still get in on the same day when I walked in at 2pm on Friday and walked out with new ink at 7pm (I didn't stick around the shop that whole time, they called me when they were ready for me). Anyways, they're also the type of artists you can give some creative liberty. You can trust them with your vision, even if what you have in mind is a little vague. Next time I have something more elaborate in mind, and I happen to find myself on this side of the country, I'll be coming back here. read more

My friend and I went today (august 13, 2021) to get a tattoo done (my second and her 13th). Ive only been to one other tattoo artist and this place was by far the best. I had Chris Morrison as my artist and he did an AMAZING job on my back tattoo. He was super funny and made sure I was okay since a back tat hurts BAD. I absolutely love my tattoo and I will for sure come back for my next tattoo. read more

I wanted to get some fresh work and asked a few friends whom I trust where to go. Valhalla was the unanimous recommendation. The scheduling process was doctors-office style professional and efficient. Craig was great to work with, friendly, and as another review mentions he has some good stories-which is nice when someone is sticking needles in your arm 1000 times a minute. His work looks like he took the design provided, made it bigger, and applied it to the site. Craig also talked about the work with another artist before we got started-literally spent a few minutes comparing notes together and making sure we were on the same page, it was reminiscent of what I've seen builders do, and the result is outstanding. The tattoo is Complete robot-quality workmanship. You can expect excellent conversation, good humor, and a great shop environment. The place is super super clean and rather upscale - almost like a spa but with tattoo artwork and dudes with beards giving people tattoos. I have never been to another tattoo place like it, I found it to be atypical for my tattoo experiences - in a great way. They absolutely hold to the southern pines style of service and hospitality, without the requisite arrogance or air of exclusivity that commonly flows down Broad street. Craig's military background appears to be responsible for producing a very repeatable, customer focused, PROFESSIONAL, and enjoyable experience. If I get another tattoo, it will be at Valhalla. read more

First of all, the folks who gave this place low marks because of a small waiting room and/or having to make an appointment, if you'd take the time to read their web site, they tell you all of this. Don't blame them for your failure to do research. It ain't always about you. Secondly, I did get a walk in session, but after talking to them over the phone and in person the week before. I got there 15-20 minutes before they opened and had no issues. Thirdly, they take the time to talk to you about what you want. I walked in with a picture of what I wanted, but after Gabe explained a few things about the design I brought him, he came up with something even better. I appreciate a business that is willing to tell a customer no if what the customer wants won't work out. Better than someone slapping some ink on you and you're stuck with a crappy tattoo. I highly recommend Valhalla and plan on going back. And lastly, they're a Veteran owned business with some really cool guys. How can you go wrong with that. read more

I spent a couple months looking around the Raleigh area for an excellent tattoo shop/artist that could really execute the tattoo that I had in my head. I work in Southern Pines, so when I heard about Valhalla I decided to look into them. I compared portfolios of several artists and read through hours worth of reviews on Yelp, Google and Facebook. I finally decided to go and talk to Craig at Valhalla because his style seemed to best suit what I was going for (Traditional/Americana). Getting in contact with them was easy, even over the holidays, and I was able to set up a consultation to go over what I wanted and what I had spinning around in my head. Two weeks later I had my appointment with Craig. We spent some time going over his design and the colors that we would use. He was very open and was excellent at communicating his ideas and understanding mine. He did the most amazing tattoo on me that I have ever received and I will absolutely be going back again and will recommend him to everyone that I know. Such a great place with great people. If you want a quality, custom tattoo then you have to check out Valhalla Tattoo & Gallery in Southern Pines! Additionally, Craig is retired from the US Air Force and is a veteran of many tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was an awesome guy to talk to and had some really amazing stories to tell. If you care about supporting our veterans, especially one as talented as Craig, then you should absolutely give this place a look. Matt, another artist at Valhalla, was really cool to talk to had a lot of insight into the design and which colors would be best. Great shop, not your typical tattoo shop where heavy metal music is blaring and the tattoo artist are not scary looking like some tattoo shops I've been too. I had Matt take me as a walk-in and he was very professional and nice. Did a great job. Would definitely recommend this shop to anyone. read more
