Yesterday I had one of their daily specials, the Yankee Pot Roast. The soup and mashed potatoes were good, but the pot roast was not. Came to the Valley Diner tonight after all of my other options stopped serving food before 10pm. Ordered a seltzer water with lime, and out came a seltzer water with LEMON. Had to politely ask for a lime; not the same thing people. Server came back and I asked if they have any beer choices. Her response was "I don't really drink so I'm not sure. They're over there" and pointed, so had to get up walk over and tell her which one I wanted. Beer came out and was a huge glass; n Ordered the patty melt medium, with waffle fries and green goddess dressing on the side (to dip the fries; a must do!) Friend ordered the Kansas City wrap (chicken, bacon, bbq sauce). Patty melt came out and actually looked nice with crisp buttery rye bread, crunchy fresh waffle fries, pickle and coleslaw. Patty melt was very good, fries dipped in green goddess dressing awesome, coleslaw very fresh and delicious, pickle gross. Overall really good. My friend's Kansas City wrap looked like it probably should've stayed in Kansas City. Cheese not melted, bland chicken. Overall not really thrilled, but had some high points with the patty melt, fries, and big beer. read more

This was our first time eating here, there was something magical about the Diner it's self...people were happy and laughing. I was not disappointed, our server, Nicholas is amazing! I cannot say enough about our service, from asking light on the ice, he said 2 ice cubes and brought me 2 ice cubes. How perfect is that. The conversation, fun and the most delicious sweet potato fries I have ever eaten. The food was quick, and so delicious. I love diner food, like home cooked. Our first time at this classic, all American diner and we are happy to report our experience was great! We were seated immediately in a large, oversize booth in a quiet area. Our server was friendly, quick and efficient, we had fresh ice water on the table in minutes. I ordered roast beef on toast with lettuce, tomato and fries, he ordered the grilled liver, bacon and onions on a hard roll. Both plates were brought quickly, and I was happy to see a thick pile of rosy red, fresh roast beef on toast! DELICIOUS! The bacon served with the liver was done just right, not too crisp and overcooked, and the onions were carmelized and tasty. We were both very impressed with the overall atmosphere, the cleanliness and attention to the rest rooms - which were spotless, by the way! Sorry to have to write a bad review, especially as I live in this Town. I'd much rather support a business. But the RARE time I ordered a BLT, I had a difficult time enjoying it and finishing it. The bacon was mostly fatty. In vain, I had to take the sandwich apart to find an actual tasty and legit piece of bacon and then couple it back together with the toast, tomato and lettuce. The worst part - I was a guest of someone and tried to do all of this undercover. I was so hungry and was expected to speak at this particular event at The Valley Diner. Well, I managed to get some nourishment. But this is not the first time we've been disappointed. My entire family refuses to eat there. Came on a Thursday morning around 9am , was very busy ! We were seated immediately though. The service was ok . After the waitress brought our food we never saw her again not even for a refill of water. When it was time to go we just went to to checkout counter cause we couldn't even find her to get the bill. But I will say the food is soooooo good. I had the Avocado omelette with home fries and buttered toast . The bomb!! The food also came out pretty quick so that is another plus. Fucking awful to say the very least. Got the chicken pesto panini and wanted to regurgitate after being three bites in. Chicken had a rubbery consistency and was very under seasoned. When I showed the waitress my entrée she looked at me with her condescending eyes like I had no idea what I was talking about. Love this place! We are there often for breakfast and lunch. Omelets are always delicious and fresh. I love that you can swap a fruit salad (fresh not soggy) for home fries for when I am trying to be good but the home fries are yummy. So many salad and sandwich options that we have tried. The Chicken Slovaki salad is huge!!! Could be two meals sometimes. The Horiatiki salad is chinch's of fresh veggies. Turkey with a twist a nice play on a Reuben of sorts and love the Happy Waitress as a version of a grilled cheese. My husband is a huge fan of the cheesesteak. Never had a bad meal and they are always so friendly. read more

Alright so I always toss back and forth with this place. I've officially concluded this to be one of the worst diners I've encountered. Been here about 5 times (because I live about 2 minutes away), and each time I walk away disappointed. Flavorless, pricey and I always leave dissatisfied. Very soft and mushy homefries, no matter how much salt and pepper you add, the omelettes will leave you wishing you'd cooked at home. Coffee always tastes burnt. The food was ok diner food but there were way too many flies flying around! We ordered the breakfast and the potatoes had no flavor. The flies really were bothering us. The waitress was very forgetful. I waited for equal which was not on the table. My husband had to get up and ask the front counter because she never brought it to us. I met a few friends for dinner last night at the Valley Diner Restaurant. This only about the second time trying this establishment. I order a classic burger deluxe platter with bacon and cheese (cheese and bacon extra but priced according). The platter also came with fries, pickle, and coleslaw. I do have to say it was pretty good. I also order a Mushroom & Swiss Burger to go for a family member. They also commented how good the burger was. My friends ordered a veggie wrap and a grilled cheese which they seemed to enjoy. The waitress though seemed to be little off. She overcharged my friends 2 extra sodas and a coffee - highly recommend to double check your bill. The waitress quickly fixed the bill but was unapologetic. They also, offered pastries from Luigi's Italian Pastry in Bridgeport Ct. which I know has been closed since before the New Year.- A little disconcerting. Overall, I would not mind going back to this dinner. Plenty of seating and a good variety of food to choose from. I am rating this average due to the service and selections of desserts. read more

The rating here should really be better! I always have a great time here. I'm always sat quickly, everyone is friendly, coffee barely ever gets to be more than half full. Corned beef hash is the only scratch made hash I've had at a local diner, and it's excellent. Pancake combo is fantastic as well. Our waitress was the sweetest ever. The food not so great. Had the brisket dinner which came with salad, potatoes and veggies. The green goddess dressing was good. The brisket was a little chewy, mashed potatoes were not real, veggies were previously frozen. The kids got pasta and meatballs which were disgusting. The steak and cheese was rubber. Everything was pretty much trash. To top it off, went up front to pay then back to the table for the kids to finish their ice cream. We then were walking out to the car. The food is deciding at Valley Diner something fierce. Every time I go, which is about once/month, I'm disappointed over and over. Last night, Aug 26th, in the middle of the surging of the Delta variant nobody in the staff was wearing masks. Not even hostess, or servers. Their irresponsibility is unspeakable. The food was limp. The scrod I ordered tasted like washed up pond flesh. The ribs my friend ordered were old tasting. They can't even BBQ ribs properly anymore--they used to be decent. You could see they were boiled and sauce just slapped over them. The split pea soup was all dried up and tasteless. Just horrid. What's wrong, Valley Diner?? Are you wanting to go out if business? Do you not care for your staff or customers who should be protected with masks?? I can't eat there any longer until you mask up and improve your food. Get another cook. Please do something different. This is a good basic diner. Like many diners, the best meal is breakfast. They know how to properly cook homefries and bacon( both crispy) and it is impossible to mess up an omelette. Recently my husband and I had dinner here, I had salmon and my husband had a burger. The salmon was perfectly broiled and the burger was large and tasty on a perfectly toasted kaiser roll, which very good French fries ( again, crisp). Deserts were something of a disappointment as my coconut cake was the last piece and not perfectly fresh and my husbands pie with ice cream was nothing special. We left stuffed and happy. read more

I'm not sure really what has to be said about the Valley Diner at this point; it's almost become the unofficial meeting place of the Valley, in good ways and bad, for the three decades it's been around. Post-prom dinner? Let's go to the Valley Diner! Post-game meal? Valley Diner! I just spent thirty minutes in cuffs in Seymour and feel like I need to complete my Valley-Trash day with some Valley-Trash food? To hell with it, let's go to the Valley Diner! Low standards all around! However, after thirty years in business, most of which cemented this diner's reputation for mediocrity, including the time my mother worked there for fifteen (15) minutes just because the place was that awful, something happened: someone new bought it, and - gasp - renovated it. I can barely recognise it anymore. Trust me when I say that long-time Valley residents have cemented memories of what the place looks like from inside and out, complete with the old-school register from the 50s. I looked at the wall my last time there, and there's a picture of what the place looked like in 1978, which is the same that it looked like in 2008. Talk about nostalgia. However, nostalgia is strange in that it sweetens memories that weren't really that good to begin with. The Valley Diner is vastly improved from what it used to be. Unfortunately, that's not saying much. The menu is fairly decent for a diner; there's a lot of different entrees on the menu, and they've finally done some different types of burger since the new owners took over. However, you have to go in at a decent time, or most of what you want won't be available, as they stop cooking certain types of food a couple hours from closing on weekdays (or around midnight on weekends). The one thing Valley Diner does well is burgers. They're usually well cooked, always have decent size to them, and the fries are whole and plentiful. If all you want is a burger and fries, you could definitely do a lot worse. It's when you start looking into other items on the menu that problems arise. Most of the entrees aren't very well made or taste bland, and for some obscene reason, I can't get a grinder. I once asked for a steak and cheese grinder, and the waitress told me they didn't have them, but I could have a wrap instead. What the hell diner serves wraps but doesn't serve grinders!? That's trendy BS, and is far above what is essentially a dive. The service is spotty. Most of the time, my waiters/waitresses are either disinterested or incompetent. However, the prices are good, and these people always deal with some of worst customers you could ever think of (like the time a guy at the counter whined and cried for fifteen minutes because he wanted a woman to wait on him. He didn't get one, God bless them), so I think it's forgiveable. Furthermore, there's one female waitress who's become more pleasant to deal with since she's started to recognise me, which bodes well for regulars, at the very least. With their move off of a 24 hour schedule during the week, the Valley Diner loses the one advantage it had for over thirty years: always being open for a bite to eat at all times of day or night. With it went a bit of it's charm, and right now, it's just another diner in a sea of diners in the Valley. You can do worse, but you can also do a whole lot better. read more

Never in my life have i been served water in a smelly glass. The service was awful, it was 20 minutes before our waitress took our order. We had to ask twice for new water after sending ours back. Food took forever to arrive. My husband ordered a pastrami omelet. Waitress asked if wanted cheese, he said No. he got a pastrami and cheese omelet anyway. Well at least his was hot. A valley institution and something every small town needs. It has changed hands through the years but the food has remained your standard diner fare. Every time I go get breakfast so baco and eggs are pretty hard to screw up. The renovations make it more updated and allow for extra seating. Right off of route 34 it is easy to get to and good for a quick bite. read more

Each time I go my expectations are that I will be pleasantly surprised, but all that ever grabs my taste buds and says "Hey you, check out my flava!", is the coffee and the french fries with gravy. The service is usually very good, with only an occasional ditz; and the quickness at which meals are served is as if they have telepathy. You'd swear as soon as you thought "Mmm, Valley dinner?", the waves were transported right to the kitchen. I will say there is dependable consistency to the quality of food. By NO means is the food bad, it's just not great, its O.K., but you can always count on a good meal. The best part is that they are open for late night dinning. This is a great spot. Yes, your basic diner. But the food is good, the portions are huge, and it's normally quick. Went for lunch this weekend. I had the french onion soup - which was really good. (Although a bit on the salty side.) I also had a side salad with a heaping scoop of egg salad on top. This salad was huge. It's really hard to mess that up. Overall a good meal. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but this is a great diner. Everything is tasty and prepared with care and attention (even the home-fries). Try the homemade hash or the french toast; they are the best things on the menu. Never been for dinner, but breakfast is always great. Servers are a little stiff, but not rude. read more
