Bait and switch. Called the day prior to make an appointment to have transfer case fluid replaced. Was quoted $220 over the phone. I send my lady in to drop the car off while I'm at work and they hiked the price up to $320. Ask why over the phone and said the guy I spoke to quoted me wrong and it was 1.5 hours of labor not 1 hour of labor. Asked if they can honor the price I was given and Dave got very annoyed that I even asked! He said Bryan helped me originally and he was nice. My husband and I have been looking for a shop that specializes in European cars and I found this shop online. My husband took in our 2003 BMW X5 for window and door issues. We had this fixed elsewhere few monrhs ago and obviously they didn't do a good job. So glad we found this shop and we are extremely happy customers. My husband was the one who interacted with them and they were awesome. Customer service was just great and they seem very honest and really knowledgeable of the issues. They had some great feedbacks on certain things we need fixed and best believe we are going back to them. The vibe he got from them was nothing like we had at other shops. So I came across this place many years ago when my VW finally went out of warranty. They were 5 minutes from my house, and they had good Yelp reviews. They certainly aren't cheap - but they are definitely more affordable than a dealer. And when you buy German cars...well...they just aren't cheap. EVER! I haven't had any issues with any work that was done. It's always on time, done correctly - and the one time one of our cars had squeaking brakes 2 days after the job - the first response I got was "bring it in and we'll make it right" without arguing or trying to blame a part, or pass the buck. The owner is a "car guy" by nature. He races what he builds, his staff are all qualified, and they follow factory procedures. In fact, there has been a time or two when he's actually told me to use someone else because although he could do the work, I might be better off with the dealer, or another specialty shop. Fast forward almost a decade. He's now worked on 5 of my vehicles, and he's my regular go-to guy. Treats me well, work is always on time and on budget, and just occasionally he throws in a favor just for good will and to keep his customers happy. I'm a car guy, and I've built, tuned, raced and broken enough cars to I know when I'm being BS'd or fleeced. The owner is a straight shooter. I'm not saying he'll work miracles - machines are machines. They need maintenance, they break. But this place will tell you what it takes, even if it's not the answer you want to hear. He runs an honest business and is a great alternative to the dealer. Most of the work the dealer has quoted me for my BMW has been cut by at least 30% - if not half by this place. The dealer does wash my car and vacuum the floors. But I figure these are the most expensive car washes in the world. I have known, dealt with, and respected Walter Ford since before he opened his shop. The Man is honest and takes care of his customers. I have sold Walter a few BMWs and he has repaired and serviced my BMWs. You won't find a better shop anywhere. His techs are trained at the BMW factory schools, but they might find working at a place like Niello BMW boring. Valley Motorwerks also builds racecars and they win on the race track. A shop like this is where many of the most brilliant techs want to work. Automoblie racing is exciting. They have the same diagnostic tools as the dealerships to use at Valley Motorwerks. Avoid this shop unless you want to deal with a bad attitude. A new error code came up right when I drove the car off that never came up before. Shop denied and made no offer to correct the problem they created. To update this review, the comments by the shop are not truthful, are arrogant and derogatory. The new battery is not a cheap aftermarket battery and the vehicle has a service history. The vehicle was at the local dealer less than 1 month before Valley disturbed the car. The dealer ran diagnostics and did not find any of the issues Dave manufactured. My suspicion is that this shop makes things up to fleece people who don't know any better into making unnecessary repairs. The position that the car was neglected is false and based on nothing but the the extreme arrogance of this shop. There are honest and better shops that work on European cars. Dave had a scowl on his face the second I walked in. Bitter person who should keep his personal opinions to himself and learn how to be a professional. read more

This is the place I take both my BMW's. They have great service, great prices and you can feel confident every time that it will get done right the first time. With my wife's X5 it's easy maintenance and a thing here and there, with my 540 Dinan it can be a little overwhelming for most shops and dealerships, not here, they know performance. Brought my Mini in to deal with an engine light issue after finally remembering that after your car hits a certain age the dealership has zero interest in helping you diagnose and fix whatever it is that's going on - especially if your car is otherwise functioning normally. I'm very pleased that I gave this shop a chance, and I highly recommend it if your last experience at the dealership left you feeling like you completely wasted your morning and your money. I'm new to the BMW fold, but have been aware of Valley Motorwerks for a while, they did an alignment on my race car a few years ago, and I've come across Walter and the staff at the track. Earlier this year when I considered buying a BMW, I settled on one and started shopping, and realized I'd better call a friend to get an opinion about servicing them (some cars are just lousy to own, I hoped to avoid that by asking about it up front). Walter kindly answered all my questions (some to the point of being a pest, I'm certain), pointed me in the direction of a car for sale, and then serviced the vehicle I ultimately purchased. I found the costs to be inline with what I've paid for similar services on other vehicles, and I found the service and staff exceedingly nice. They quickly took care of little details I would never have thought to check, and accommodated my schedule and needs. Their service really stands as a shining example of how customers should be taken care of. You don't just have two-bit mechanics working on your car; these guys are true enthusiasts. I actually feel more confident taking my car here than I do a BMW dealership. That means a lot coming from someone who is quite wary of independent repair shops. If you shop around you'll find other local shops that are cheaper on the hourly labor rate, but be careful, as many will use markup on parts and generous labor quotes to make up for it. I visited Valley Motorwerks for the first time earlier this week and my experience was not very pleasant. I talked to the owner, whose name slips my mind at the moment unfortunately, and he was quick to resolve the issue and really went above and beyond to make things right. Although I probably won't be back for a while since their prices are a little high, they do have fantastic customer service and the price is definitely worth it if you want quality work done on your car. Not sure if I would bring my Vehicle to Dave shop to fix. I called to get an estimate of what might be wrong with the car. He told me a diagnose test would be $140-$150 some where in that field. That's just the test. The amount doesn't apply to any of the work. If it went towards the work that would be reasonable and I could see that but to spend that guessing of what you might think is the issue is I have a problem with. Also I notice most of every review given with displeased services he defends himself however sometimes in business its best to just say "ok and how can we make things work" not fight with the customer about all the favors or free work that you may or not have had. My review will not be based on quality considering I just picked up my car and is too soon to tell. My car was leaking coolant and having a scrape sound at 40mph. So I have an insurance that offers free tow. I had it delivered to them Monday night and did not hear from them till apparently the job was done. Giving me no opportunity to consider cost and what I can afford which is a standard courtesy in any industry and required by the Bureau of Automotive Repair which I will be contacting. People aren't made of money. I guess he thought I had a stimulus coming. I am young 23 yrs and married, together, already dealing with medical bills of rare heart condition. If you can sign blank checks go here. This ruined my experience completely which told me he had no concern for his customer. I was charged 2.5hrs (160perhour=400$) to swap 4 control arms (8bolts). Alignment is suppose to follow swapping the control arms so I decided to play it safe and swap them back to stock myself and let them do it (All under and hour on my harbor freight jack on gravel) The plastics under the car were already removed to give clear access to them. The job concluded in a 400 dollar cost for labor since I supplied the parts. So in total 1005.42(after negotiation) but was originally 1100 dollars which I was not told till after the job was done. TO BE CLEAR I was given NO prior estimate or opportunity to approve repairs. Even states authorized by "no name given" at bottom of invoice. To fix a coolant leak, swap control arms(typically a 150-200 dollar job in labor taken from a survey of shops located in CA), and alignment. I was never asked if I wanted to "save old parts" which is also on the invoice as a "no"until I asked for my good condition parts back which he had to find in his shop after asking. I recently bought a 2009 BMW X5 and I was experiencing a vibration at idle. The car had a service warranty so it should have been a simple fix. I took it to an independent shop and a BMW dealership but they could not pinpoint the problem. I suspected it might be bad engine mounts. I was frustrated and almost ready to sell the car. I came to this establishment because I had a flyer on my car. I work around the corner so it was very convenient. The manager offered to have one of the employees bring me back to work and promised the oil change would be done once I got off. He didn't disappoint me. They stayed open a few minutes late and waited for me to arrive to pick up my car. I also mentioned that I wanted new windshield wipers and the mgr, Dave, looked up the cost and they were ridiculously over-priced, so he compromised and gave me a better deal. 5 stars because: Valley Motorwerks stepped up to be my 'Prince Charming' in this matter, but true to form, I had to kiss a frog a frog first, which was another shop who'd misdiagnosed my car's issue. I won't name the 'frog' here...oh who cares, it was German Star Motors in Natomas. In brief, GSM, owned by Constantine, estimated that my check engine light had come on as a result of a 'drive chain' issue with my 2007 Audi A6. Constantine advised the cost would be somewhere between $3,900-4,300. Yeah, dollars. I realized that this is an Audi and therefore repairs would be expensive, but really?? Enter Valley Motorwerks on their white horse. I knew of them because they'd successfully completed a previous (unrelated) repair on my car and they were located conveniently close to my job in Rancho Cordova. Immediately, after receiving GSM's circumspect estimate, I contacted Justin of Valley Motorwerks for a 2nd opinion, and he told me to bring the paper estimate in, wherein he would perform a 2nd diagnosis by just reviewing German Star Motors' estimate. He opted to review the paper estimate only, at that point, instead of doing a physical inspection of the car, as he considered GSM to be a reputable shop. Justin stated he would compare his shop's pricing and labor to GSM's, with the goal of possibly reducing the overall repair cost. The following Monday afternoon Justin advised that after consulting the issue with another master mechanic in his shop, they deduced that because the car was drivable and I had not experienced any mechanical noises nor engine hesitation, his good news was this was definitely NOT a drive chain issue. He advised my car didn't yet have enough miles driven to have this part malfunction or deteriorate. Justin then gave me even better news when he told me his shop felt the issue was related to a faulty cam position sensor, which would cost approx. (wait for it..) only $300! Bottom line, out the door, the diagnosis cost, 2 cam sensor parts replacement, labor cost and an oil change (performed at the end to diagnose and confirm that the problem had indeed been fixed) cost me a total of $650.00, which is a helluva lot better than $4,300 OR $3,905! Another issue which Justin of Valley Motorwerks noticed was that German Star Motors estimate included a discounted part for the actual drive chain. I advised Justin that Constantine was trying to assist me with reducing the repair cost and I'd asked him to revise the estimate with discounted parts. However, Justin insisted that any mechanic worth his salt would not provide a discounted part of the drive chain itself. I gather that is what Constantine did. I don't know why Constantine did not care to advise that the part he discounted was the actual drive chain, nor am I clear why he didn't caution me about why that would not be a good idea. In conclusion, I am thrilled to say that Valley Motorwerks fixed the problem: My MIL light was no longer on, has not reappeared and my car has returned to driving like the 255-horsepower beast she is! Quite some time ago, I'd prayed to be led to an Audi mechanic with integrity, kindness and empathy, and this has been answered in Justin Ross at Valley Motorwerks. If u have an issue with your BMW, Mini, VW or Audi, please give VM a chance to do you right. You can reach them at 916-636-9526. They are fast too, as they only took 3 days to repair my ride and have it back to me. I was treated very respectfully (historically, sometimes a chore for male mechanics when dealing with female customers) throughout this diagnosis and repair process, and I was kept apprised of my car's status at every turn. The gentlemen staff answers the phone promptly when it rings, and in passing I've heard them proclaim to customers, "yes, we close at 'such and such time', but we will be here until the job is done." Did I mention the repair coupons they offer, reflective of their fair pricing ethos? Its true, sometimes you have to kiss alot of frogs before you can find your Prince charming, but personally I prefer my frog (legs) fried crispy and served hot and that's the end of that. read more

We have had the pleasure of doing business with Valley several times now. Last time we were there, we got to meet the owner Walter. What impresses me the most is the family atmosphere displayed by everyone. I bought a cash car at a local dealership, and it has a lot of problems. Every time I've gone in, or called (at least 40 times) they are always kind and explanatory to me as to what is going on with my car. Alex, a mechanic actually took me out to the shop to show me what was going on, I've never had a mechanic offer to show me anything before. After a few repairs, there was an offer to pick out a different car, and I drove several before deciding to just fix mine. Valley offered to check out the vehicles at no charge for me! Walter said something that stuck with me the day we met him. "We want everyone that walks through that door to be treated like family. Not just customers. It does not matter if you are the mail carrier, delivery or sales. Here you are family." Now, a lot of companies claim that, but these guys are the real deal. These guys are close to where I work & I saw their ad in a local magazine with lots of alleged customer comments about their great service and prices, so I called these guys to find pricing on an oil service on my 325i. I was quoted $117.xx for this and my jaw about dropped. What??? $117.xx clams to change the oil?? That's crazy! When I commented on the high price, I was told that it's a "full oil service". I guess that includes what I consider some unecessary 46 point inspection. If you follow your service intervals, then the inspection is unecessary. Plus any good shop will make recommendations of any issues they see while changing your oil. This must be some sort of money making gimick aimed at people who don't know about cars or don't follow their service intervals. If I want just an "oil change", then that's $59.xx, BUT they don't reset your service indicator light. As I have a BMW reset tool, I know it takes roughly 1 minute to grab that thing from my toolbox and reset the oil service indicator. That's rediculous. I absolutely will never take my car here. My usual BMW service facility (Schatz & Krum) charges $65.00 and they reset my indicator light. It's a little more of a drive for me, but I'll stick with them.
