It is so nice to get together with like-minded parents that just want a place where their kids can play and explore. You yourself get a chance to be in the classroom and help out, play and see all of your kids' friends interact. Soon you will be getting your feet in the sand yard, going to parent meetings where the teachers will give you tips on how to calm your child during a meltdown, and you will talk to other parents and see that you're not alone. Some examples of community that I can think of during our time are the parent meetings, potluck events, a camping trip, and events at school where everyone is welcome for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. When we had our second child, and EECP knew we were finally home, we got a few gifts delivered for our new baby, but also a couple of big brother gifts and books from the school. When I'm at work and I get some photos sent to our parent group message board of what the kids are doing that day, it makes you wish you were at school that day instead of sitting behind a desk. Those are the times I know that we got lucky to find the EECP and other involved parents and teachers. One other thing I remembered that I enjoy is the stuff that our kiddo brings home. It is not just paintings that will soon be on your fridge or decorated shoe boxes, but also stories and music. Our 3-year-old would come home from school and teach me about Mardi Gras. He insisted on Mardi Gras songs being played in our home. He enjoyed dancing and marching and was explaining how parades worked, as if I had no idea what one was. It was so much fun to finally go to school and see all the kids parade around in fun costumes and carry around little decorated shoe boxes they made in class. This is just one of the events that we've loved as a family and now as a community.

I have a long history with Prince of Peace. My parents were married here. I attended the…read morepreschool. My grandfather's funeral was held here and my great grandmother's cookie recipe is even in the church cookbook (the only thing I bake that doesn't come from a box). Prince of Peace has forever left it's mark on me... literally, I fell out of a tree in the preschool playground and bit through the skin under my lip. I may only attend service on Christmas Eve (for the candlelight and the pipe organ), but Prince of Peace holds a special place in my heart. It's beautifully located, with Camelback Mountain in the background and the sense of community is wonderful (not that I'm a part of that community, let's be honest). In all seriousness, if I was ever going to be part of a church community again, this would be the one. Now, I know on the surface an endorsement from a nonbeliever who never attends service holds little weight, but it actually does say a lot... especially if you've happened to catch any of my other reviews.

The…read moreschool has been such a blessing to us, as we moved to Phoenix (from Oklahoma City) at the end of December 2017.  We were hoping to find a nurturing school home for our daughter and truly wanted a place that focused both on academics and a holistic, hands-on learning approach.  In addition, my mom has been a preschool director for over 30-years and has set the educational bar high, so we knew the questions to ask when looking for a new school.   Upon our first tour, my daughter and I knew this was the right spot for her Spring semester.  The class sizes are small, and the teachers are extremely nurturing; Emma Fominaya is an excellent director and teacher, and she truly prepares the kids for Kindergarten and beyond.  Both Emma & her husband, Terence, have poured their hearts, time, and hard word into building a school of high integrity.   Their food program is excellent, as they serve fresh, organic breakfasts and lunches to the kids.  They also incorporate the outside garden into the meals and include planting days with the preschool families.  We have had many opportunities to become a part of a supportive school community, and we have enjoyed getting to know the Fominayas and other preschool parents.   The before and after care is also extremely helpful, our daughter always insists on staying until 6:00pm--she absolutely loves her time at school and her teachers.  The schedule also goes year-round and doesn't follow breaks, which is helpful/important for working parents.  We also enjoy the consistency and the flexibility to map out attendance days, as we do a M/W/F schedule.   Overall, this school is worth every penny and an amazing place; we are so thankful we found Camelback Holistic...now if we can just talk them into offering Kindergarten, we never want to leave!

About a month ago I attended the 9th Annual Arcadia Edible Garden Tour. We visited some really…read morewonderful home edible gardens in the Arcadia area of Scottsdale, AZ . . . but the one that stood out beyond all the others was this elementary school. Arcadia Neighborhood Learning Center (ANLC) is an elementary school teaching its children where food really does come from - gardens and farms. And that grocery stores are only the middle man. The children have their own gardens - with veggies and flowers. Even the Preschool students have a garden. Once a month they have a visiting local Chef who comes and teaches a small group of students how to prepare food they have grown . . . and how to make it tasty. Young home garden farmers and chefs are being taught how to do it right. The ANLC is part of a 120-year history of the Scottsdale Unified School District - they've been educating our children since 1896 in both creative and traditional skills. And the children love it! If you live in this neighborhood and have young children, they are the lucky ones! Learning to grow and eat their veggies!

I went to the tour at CLS and was so amazed that I asked my Mom " are we being Punked?" From the piano music coming out of the chapel to the specialized attention and care my boys receive I couldn't be more thrilled. My oldest son is a bit ahead of his grade in some areas but his teacher went out of her way to create a secondary curriculum for him in these areas so that he stays challenged and excited. The level of character building and accountability that exists at this school is unparalleled. It takes a village:)

The education is top notch, they do prepare your children for high school. Ms. Weber is the middle school teacher for social studies and she is amazing. My children are learning the Articles of the Constitution right now. She brings history to life. During the first week of school at CLS they did a lot of team building activities and it brought the students together, from that moment on my children had friends. The kids are great and I have not seen or heard of any bullies. The sports program may not have a lot of practices, but I think it so kids are able to do other activities outside of school, which most do. I think the two coaches my children have had in after school sports have been great role models. Thank you CLS staff & coaches for being so kind and patient with my kids. It is wonderful to see all the teachers model true Christ like behavior.

The principal and assistant principal are out greeting kids every morning and they know everyone's name, it's impressive! My kids have thrived here, with my daughter in the advanced Math and ELA and my son finding a love of reading. I'm a very involved parent and can say every single person who works at the school is amazing, thoughtful, and truly care about the students. We feel very lucky to have found this great community.
