The performance was held at 10th St Elementary which is where they stage their musical theater. Street parking is available. I was fortunate to get our tickets ahead of time so we would have good seats. I didn't get to see much of the building itself except there is an outdoor playground and I was able to see the school office from a distance. The auditorium is a very nice size and the sound and tech crew sit high above the rear for the effects. I liked the fact that they used the same head mikes which made it a lot easier to catch the lyrics and parts I normally miss when seeing the show in a large theater like the Benedum. These high school students put on an amazing job and although due to space and cost could not use all the props associated with the production (in this case the funny curtain), still, they were able to make up for it in comedy and dance. I loved how they showed picture biographies of the cast in the lobby and and Tee Shirts hanging in the foyer of past productions. Spamalot is a ripoff of Monty Python and the Holy Grail movie set to music where it literally takes jabs at many Broadway musicals of the past. It's definitely a good comedy worth seeing. I want to thank everyone at Riverdale for all the hard work put into this production because a show of this quality is not as easy to replicate on stage. I'd originally planned to visit one in Polish Hill, but I had an appointment after 5 and they stop serving at 6, so we decided to try Sacred Heart, which runs until 7:30, instead. As usual, I called in my order ahead of time, and it was taken and fulfilled with no hassles. When we showed up at 6, our food awaited us, so we paid and grabbed a seat. Both of us ordered the fried fish dinner ($9 each). Both came with sides of cole slaw, and I ordered mac and cheese as my second side, whereas my friend ordered fries. Like the fish fry at St. Raphael, the fish dinners here come with a dinner roll, but not as a sandwich. In terms of quality, the fish here was a cut below the fish at the last fry I attended (at St. Maria Goretti in Bloomfield)--it just wasn't as fresh. My friend said that he found the fish moister than the fish at the last fry we attended together (at Epiphany Uptown), and while this may have been true, freshness is the most important factor to me when judging the quality of fish. As for the sides, the cole slaw was of the creamy variety and was rather sweet (disclaimer: I'm not much of a fan of cole slaw in general), and the fries and mac and cheese were of average quality and were a bit scant in quantity. The one major redeeming factor of this fish fry--believe it or not--was the desserts. Although they were no doubt pre-made, they were presented very nicely, and were a cut above the lousy desserts at St. Raphael's. I had a slice of lemon meringue pie and my friend had a slice of blueberry ($2 each), and we both enjoyed them. For me, this was the high point of the meal. The environment and clientele of this fish fry reminded me a lot of St. Raphael--it's held in an elementary school cafeteria, and most of the clientele consisted of families with young children who probably attend the school. The priest came around and greeted all of the diners, including us, which was a nice touch. For me, this fish fry was just A-OK. If it's convenient in terms of location, then it's worth a try--otherwise, I'd recommend skipping it to try a better one, such as Swissvale VFD's.

I would complain about this issue and the principal actively chose not to help me and thought it was better to blame everything on me. I was also sexually assaulted for months by a classmate and I was blamed for that too and I have the papers still that even say that I was the cause of the bullying and sexual assault. I was terrified of certain classmates because of the assaults and I was told it was my fault. They did nothing to help me move on from this traumatic experience and they definitely never told me my rights as a victim. Now the school district acts like they care about their students and about bullying and teen suicide. They don't. They are just doing it because they want to look good in society's eyes. They didn't care that I became extremely depressed because of the bullying I was receiving or that I was considering to end it all. I even had an extremely noticeable cry for help one day in class and literally no one noticed that I was ready to hurt myself but I couldn't do it. I am very ashamed to be a graduate from this horrible school district. I made it out barely alive and basically had a complete mental meltdown two weeks after I graduated and still need intense therapy just to be able to move on. I can never get those four years of my life back and I can't even get justice for myself at this point.

They're doing some major construction on the HS, so some of the entrances are blocked off, but you can get in from the back park entrance. The park next door is very nice & shaded & a good place to escape the heat.

Some call it a hidden gem, but we think that there are quite a few discriminatory reasons why their classes aren't always full (one class last year only had 4-5 kids...). While it's true that the music teacher is fantastic and that there are a few other nice teachers, the overall feeling for us was too cookie-cutter and stuffy, even for a private school.

Among these previous musicals include "Phantom of the Opera" and "Sweeney Todd." My girlfriend and I went to see this production and believe me they not only nailed it to perfection but added some recent events into the action. For example, when they were announcing the winner of who found the grail they opened the envelope and read "La La Land" It was a cute throwback to the Academy Awards goof. This musical had us laughing like there was no tomorrow. The set design, costumes, ensemble were spot on. We sat directly in front of the orchestra which belted out the tunes with a solid dexterity. We were even amazed that they could replicate the videos used on the curtains during intermission and the ending. Spamalot is loosely based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It won the 2004 Tony award for best musical and has been seen on occasion at Pittsburgh CLO summer series. This was the first time I ever saw it done in a high school. Strobe lights, gunshot noises, ice steam were all part of the special effects. I read in the program that to recreate the period all of the costumes had to be made by hand. Woodland Hills High School has won some of the Gene Kelly awards for excellence in musical theater with some of their past productions. They have been nominated again this year for Spamalot. Also what's great is that it is so reasonable to see an outstanding musical at a very inexpensive price. I will be anxious to see what they choose next year because they certainly will be on my return list for musical theater.
