For 4…read moresummers, since my daughter has been going to sleep away camp in Honesdale, PA, we have been in search for a great, REAL country homemade pie. Last summer, we thought we found the perfect apple pie when we stopped by an Amish food stand. It was far from perfect. The dough was authentic, but the filling was made with that compote filling. That was a shocker and some disappointment, I'll tell you that!! Well, fast forward to yesterday. Driving along Route 206 trying to find a place to eat (see Jumboland), I spotted the Culver Lake Nursery and Farm Market along the roadside and the word "Pie" stood right out. This market had everything you could possibly imagine: Perennials and Plants, Homemade Cider, Jams, Fresh Farm Vegetable and Fruit, PIES, and so much more. If we had more time AND I knew I would find it on Yelp, I would have insisted on staying longer to look around and take more pictures. There was a table displaying the most beautiful pies I have ever seen. Apple Crumb, Plain Apple, Blueberry, Mixed Berry and Cherry. I was speaking to the owner and she told me she gets all her homemade pies from a bakery that her Brother and Sister-In-Law own. My husband lifted the Apple Pie and he said it felt like it weighed 4 lbs!! The aroma of fresh baked pie filled our car, we couldn't wait to get home!! As soon as we cut into the pie, you could hear the crunch of the apples. The dough was the PERFECT consistency - how it held so many apples I have no idea!! The pictures speak for itself, this was by far THE best apple pie I have ever had. I found the bakery on Yelp (http://www.yelp.com/biz/village-farmer-and-bakery-delaware-water-gap) and called to compliment them and to find out exactly where they were located. The girl told me they put EIGHT cups of apples into every pie. Unfortunately, after my husband spoke to the owner to get directions, he realized this bakery would be too much out of our way coming home, so chances are we will not be going there. But, we have all intentions of stopping by the Culver Lake Nursery every chance we will get!! Look for an update the weekend of August 4th, we shall be returning then!! Note: The large pies (12") are $13.99 and the mini's (6") are $5.99. Worth every penny!!!

Walked past The Farmer's Daughter (the 'Sister' Shop to CC), and entered the store. The door had the classic bell, and I was greeted almost immediately. Through the seating area, I got to the counter. Though I had seen multiple menus online, there were some staples on it, and some that rotate in and out depending on the season or availability. Ordered the "Prime Suspect," sliced prime rib, melted cheddar, caramelized onion jam, arugula, pickles, and horseradish aioli on a toasted roll. Also ordered the Lobster Bisque, something told me they were gonna do it right. Soup was piping hot, creamy, chunky, and had piles of lobster. Wow. The sandwich was an absolute unit, and flavorful to boot. Momma ain't raise no quitter so you know I took it down, but it had me in the first half, not gonna lie. Staff said they've been open for a year and change, and I was just sad it took me this long to find it and give it a rip. Great atmosphere, unique items, creative items, and a great experience. We set sail up to the farm and took the gravel driveway up to the location. They have plenty of parking which made it less stressful. We were immediately ushered to their check in area after parking. A few minutes later we were at our table situated right in the middle of the dahlia field. It was perfect. The flowers were in bloom and it was very romantic. You are permitted to take a stroll in the flower beds and take photos of more than 6,000 dahlias in all of their glory. We did pack a lunch and for dessert we were able to enjoy an assortment of gourmet treats crafted by Wesselhof Farm.  Coffee, tea, homemade lemonade and homemade iced tea are included along with the desserts. It was a lovely day to get out and spend some quality-kid free- time with my better half. Although this event was not a "U-pick" event, they do offer bouquets for sale in the farm stand.
